[ cheers and applause ] >> thank you for all that energy this morning and how about all the energy last night? shining moment for leo dicaprio locking up his first oscar and there he comes right there. i have to say i was so glad to see that "spotlight" won the best picture. my favorite movie. >> great picture and so was the team behind "spotlight." we have a picture of them celebrating all smiles. check this out. think they're a little excited? >> just a little there. it was such a fantastic night on the red carpet. robin, lara, michael and i were all there. it was such a whirlwind. i was nervous, i have to say. >> thank you. >> it was so fun. >> you are a newbie but you seemed like a veteran. >> i was nervous. the microphone was shaking a little. >> michael strahan says good to have the nerves before a big game. >> people were a little nervous wanting to know how chris rock would do and the one thing people are talking about making so manyy headlines, oscar host chris rock's monologue on diversity, the comedian taking the issue head on right from the top of the show and what he said changed the way a lot of people may be thinking about race here in america. abc's chris connelly is here with more on that. >> good morning, yes, indeed for chris rock it had to be an all eyes on me moment. so much anticipation in the dolby theatre around the world, deep feelings and then he took on this controversy with nuance, discernment, historical perspective and no one got a free pass. >> well, i'm here at the academy award s otherwise known as the white people's choice awards. >> reporter: host chris rock, his comic dazzle and daring on full display. >> you realize if they nominated hosts, i wouldn't even get this job. >> reporter: taking the oscars so white controversy head on and no one was safe. >> you got to figure that it happened in the '50s, in the the '60s and black people did not protest, why? because we had real things to protest at the time. you know. >> reporter: even calling out african-american oscar boycotters. >> will was not nominated. it's not fair. it's also not fair that will was paid $20 million for "wild, wild west" okay. >> reporter: dropping the hammer on white hollywood's hypocrisy savidging its progressive outlook. >> mr. president, you see all these writers and producers and actors? >> no. >> nope. >> no. >> "bridge of spies." >> where are you getting these movies from? >> did you see "straight outta compton"? >> "straight outta compton," i did see that. >> i loved it. >> oh, yes. >> oh, hell yeah. >> reporter: the overwhelming online verdict on rock, he nailed it. >> i want to invite everybody here to the b.e.t. awards this summer. black lives matter. >> reporter: now, a couple of missteps according to twitter. the joke with the three asian kids on stage fell flat and if he's talking about diversity he should have talked about latinos and asian-americans. >> some did talk about that. when you talk about diversity you have to be all inclusive but what he did was well received overall. >> the reaction in the room, the reaction online, yes. >> we'llsee. he was in a tough spot. he really was. george. >> thanks very much. we turn to another big story this morning, "dancing with the stars" host erin andrews expected to take the stand today in her emotionally charged trial. she is suing a hotel for $75 million after a stalker caught her undressing in her room. eva pilgrim has the story. >> reporter: while she's used to being front and center reporting from the sidelines of sports' biggest events this morning erin andrews is expected to be front and center in court taking the stand fighting for herself. >> she kept screaming, i'm on the internet, i'm on the internet. i'm naked. >> hi. erin andrews. >> reporter: the 37-year-old reporter and "dancing with the stars" co-host is suing michael david barrett who in 2010 pleat pleated guilty to stalking filming her naked through the owners of this marriott for $75 million claiming the hotel made it easy for him to film her in the nude. >> if she tells the jury how this affected her, that she was embarrassed by it, that she was sickened by it, that she continues to be emotionally upset about it, i just can't imagine that it's going to be difficult f f this jury to connect with her and this jury to find in her favor. >> reporter: the hotel says barrett is a criminal who tricked them into gaining access to andrews but andrews' lawyers say the hotel did nothing to prevent barrett from finding her room number and failed to notice he had removed and altered the peephole on her door. >> stands there for 4 1/2 minutes and videos her. >> reporter: barrett posted his video on the internet and it went viral. experts say millions watched it. it's been eight years since the incident and despite her best efforts to remove the video, it is still online. still isn't the same. >> she's not the girl that we used to know. >> reporter: we are expected to hear from the stalker and erin's mother before wrapping up the day with erin andrews herself. trial. eva, thanks very much. performance from lady gaga. what a powerful, emotional lots of reaction pouring in. hi i'm kristie. and i'm jess. and we are the bug chicks. we're a nano-business. windows 10 really helps us get the word out about how awesome bugs are. kids learn to be brave and curious and all kids speak the language of bug.
