Rex, what happened . Rex the fire yesterday took the life of a man who lived not far from here. It was a tough location for crews to respond to. It was an early sunday morning fire on top of a Mountain Side at the end of Enchanted Forest drive, captured on video. Jerry anis lives by. We did see a little bit of smoke on the top of the ridge. Rex the Fire Department responded about 6 40. A few minutes later, chief dale woodard was the first on the scene. Water and everything in there. When i drove up, you could look entirely through the house. The roof collapsed and fell in. The entire upper floor of the house was on fire. Rex woodard said it took about an hour to put the fire out. We did locate a body, top level of the house. Kind of in the hallway, kitchen area is where we located the body at. We dont know that it is him until, you know, hes identified. Rex that will be done through an autopsy. No logs were in the fire place. The chief says the homeowner is known as a heavy smoker. So you know, youre not ruling out that it could be a cigarette or Something Like that. Rex now it could take some weeks before the final autopsy results are in, as well as the official cause of the fire. SelfFire Departments responded in addition to the savannah Fire Department. Here says this is the first fire fatality they responded to since 1978. Reporting live tonight from Jackson County, rex hodge, news tammy a murder defendant testified. Five years ago Richard Oshields pulled the trigger on mathis and the motive was to avenge his sons death. Oshields testimony gives a sense of the emotional rollercoaster that led up to that gun fire. John it was a simple story of revenge in their eyes. A story of a tormented grieving father who is now a murder defendant. Thats the last time i remember. Thats all i seen was his face. I dont remember another thing john Richard Oshields took the jury back to that day. Oshields says theres much he does not remember. Authorities say he fired five rounds at toby mathis, in side the Dollar General. What on earth is going on. I said i think i shot that boy. John his testimony at times riveting. If he seems disoriented, thats because of cognitive issues stemming from a stroke. Surveillance video shows the defendant walking in to the rosemund dg store. Prosecutors say revenge was his motive. Mathis had been charged with oshields son fell out of. Thats my son. Joe. Joey . John a handful of years later, the raw emotions remain. Every day of my life. John richard told news 13 at the time he thought it wasnt enough. Oshields says he had a stroke at the end of the interview. The prosecution asserted that oshields was attacking toby. The prosecution did go over the Surveillance Video pretty much defendant who said he had never been in that Dollar General store and really doesnt recall why he was there in the first place. The animals owner says she found the 38yearold breaking in to her chicken coop. When she asked him to stop, he grabbed two by the neck and started shaking them. And threw them to the ground.
