we've had a stubborn and persistent trough in the east. look at it diving south ward. that keeps things unsettled and cold. thus we've had our wintery weather and our cold weather here. look at the difference in the mid and southern portions of the nation. 70s in texas and oklahoma. 90 close too phoenix. this big jet stream bulging west ward. we're headed for the warmest weekend of february so far. we've had some very chilly weekends. temperatures averaging the low 40s for the couple weekends we've had to far. 34 degrees for that wind chill. that's not fun at all. 55 degrees in greenville. it is sunny. not much of a wind chill factor but you still have the wind to deal with. it's north-northeasterly at 13 miles per hour. we have high pressure to the north. around that, a clock wise flow. everything is pulling cold air down on this side of the high pressure. once it starts to move to the east and that's going to happen in to the weekend, we'll start to see our wind come back around from the return side of that. that's the west side of the high. and our winds will come from the west and southwest. you can see warm air also going in to the midwest, too. anything south of that is pretty warm stuff. most of that is coming our way, too. we'll watch the cold front skirt on by to the north of us friday and saturday. it will increase the cloud cover. you can see that good batch of cloud cover coming through tennessee, also kentucky. that is coming in for the weekend. we will cloud up. but we will warm up along with that. sun and we can't get the warm weather at the same time. here's the future cast this evening. maybe some flurries. other than that, not means. we'll see. by day break we're clear. mostly sunny through the afternoon tomorrow. look at these winds coming up from the south. already the upstate tomorrow. still more northwesterly winds in asheville and the mountains. my thursday evening, even more subtly winds coming up. the warm up really kicks in towards the end of the week. temperatures tonight, mighty cold. middle and upper 20s south of i-40. gaffney one of the colder spots. look at the temps tomorrow. mid to upper 50s in the upstate. again, that's the place you want to be for some warm temps. other than that, 50s. big change in to the weekend. clouds but mild. 61 sunday. we will cool down with a lot of rain coming monday into tuesday. by wednesday, could be back to some snow. we'll watch that closely. right now it's only 40% chance. we will get a lot colder by then. in the upstate, temperatures close to 60 friday. you too will chill down. thunder showers by wednesday next week. >> darcel: when does spring start? >> karen: frank, a jury was selected today in pre-trial motions began in a trial that brings bad blood and tragic memories to the surface. the murder trial of richard o'shields comes nearly five years after the gun fire that left 27-year-old toby mathis dead at the rosemund dollar general store. according to affidavits, several people saw o'shields pull the trigger. >> witnesses tell us that basically mr. o'shields had came in to the store and began firing at mr. mathis. >> karen: mathis was pronounced dead at the scene. as sheriff david mahoney explained, there had already been tension between the o'shields and the mathis. >> i know that the relationship between these two families has been strained greatly since the
