the strike zone. tens of thousands have lost power and that number is expected to grow. more than 11 million along the east coast are currently under a hurricane warning. airports across the region closed. businesses boarded up and shelters filling up. >> i've been in florida all my life and i know how bad it is. worse. emergency officials say the storm is an extreme threat to life and property and warn the impact will be devastating to catastrophic in some areas with as many as 10 million possibly losing power for weeks. the extreme conditions in florida a warning for those in georgia north you know about closures this weekend traveling through downtown. i-90 westbound to 77 southbound. that ramp will close 7 this evening and will stay closed until 7 on saturday evening. so if you go to the game tonight, you will to make that transition. you will have to go around all the way down 176 to 480 to 77 southbound. closing the on-ramp from 77 northbound to i-90 eastbound. this starts at 10:00 this evening and goes until 3 in the afternoon on saturday. the detour east 14th street to prospect. simpler and shorter than other way around. as far as the metro cleveland area two accidents these both that's at exit 170a. u.s. 42 and 25th street west 25th and i-490 eastbound the accident there exit 2a highway 43 broadway avenue. no major delays with the accidents so far. that's the latest traffic update lynna. a cleveland police officer was taken to the hospital after a car crash. it happened around 1:30 this morning. the driver of with a patrol car. the driver of the van was questioned and given a field sobriety test at the scene and was arrested. ems transported the police officer to university hospital. no word on the officer's condition or the exact cause of the crash. lynna lai. here's a look at what's happening. rains and winds from hurricane matthew hitting parts of florida this morning. matthew was category 4. weakened to a category 3 overnight barreling sunshine state. the storm which could bring wind gusts over 160 miles an hour is called the most powerful hurricane to threaten the atlantic coast in more than a decade. greg dee is here and he is going to have a breakdown of the hurricane still ahead. today marks one h until the presidential election and there are now just a couple days left until the candidates face-off in the second debate. east coast are under the hurricane warning and the national hurricane center downgraded matthew early this morning from a category 4 to a 3. >> but that could be misleading because it's still a stroke storm. people are warning the -- storm -- strong storm. people are warning it's moving to the east coast and greg you have firsthand insight after spending time in florida. >>or inflorida and lived there for five years and went through the busy tropical season in 2005 and went through several tropical storms and hurricanes in just one season and this one is right along the coast. a very unusual track here. what you are looking at is a closeup view of matthew. eye about 37 miles to the east of titusville. this right here is cape canaveral. this is where the space shuttles launched. kennedy space center. outer eye wall is now making aver tho gol be -- and they are getting battered by hurricane- force winds. the hurricane-force winds don't start until you get the yellow and orange the strongest is up here where you see winds gusting to 120 probably 130 miles an hour. it continues to just parallel the coast and this is what's so dangerous about the storm. because the center is staying over the quickly. eventually the waters get cooler as you head farther north but that's a slow process so this is a tomorrow that we will be talking about today -- a storm we will be talking about today tomorrow and sunday as well going into the weekend. gusting to near hurricane force in melbourne now the wind are picking up. those -- winds are picking up. they were in the 60-mile-an- hour wind range in dane tow and -- daytona and suddenly they are almost gusting to tropical storm force. the other problem is this eastern wind is pushing the water into the river inlets. is 20 ssh 120-- 120-mile-an- hour storm. the models have not changed but maybe we could see landfall in south carolina hurricane warnings continue up the north carolina coast and guys we could see the ocean surface rise. that's the stor as 5 to 10 feet in some places. i think that will be worse in georgia and south carolina. >> thanks so much. greg. we were able to talk to a family originally from northeast ohio now riding out the storm in florida. is a matha green and her -- samantha green and her family live less than two miles from the shore in sebastian expected to be wouldn't the hardest
