I just confirmed with investigators that the shooting actually happened inside this tax office here, ttc tax refund is what this action business is called. Investigators have left the scene but they told me theyre not looking for any suspects and that this appears to be an isolated incident. News 6 was there as two people with gunshot wounds were airlifted to the hospital just before 2 00 this afternoon. Their conditions are unknown, but were told they were taken as trauma alerts. As paramedics worked on them, investigators on the ground gathered evidence and talked to witnesses, trying to figure out how this all started. Deputies say the shooting and the woman who works there said it was her boss who was shot. I hope he pulls through. Im praying for him. I hope he pulls through. While evidence markers were being place there, investigators were also looking at this car a few hundred yards away. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still unknown, but pratt thinks someone didnt get a check they were expecting at the tax office and decided to shoot her boss. I guess probably somebody check aint come through and they aint get it so at the same time retaliated, came in, people called in all day looking for they check and they coming up here. Again, we just found out within the last 15 minutes that one of the injured is in critical condition. Deputies are still trying to figure out what triggered all this. This time in orange county. The state Attorneys Office after a fire that left a boy dead last year will not face any charges. This was the scene last june at Lake Johns Motel on West Colonial drive. Luis cruz was later arrested on charges of murder and child abuse and arson. Investigators say he and his two kids got out, his stepchildren were found unconscious. A 5yearold later died. The state Attorneys Office says they cant prove beyond a reasonable doubt that cruz set the fire. Shoplifting turns violent at a local walmart. Orlando police say this video right here shows two women try to stab a Security Guard during all this. Heres a closer look at all this. It happened sunday night at the store on kirkman road. A Security Guard tried to stop them. A woman pulled a big knife out and charged at the guard. The suspects took off. No one was hurt fortunately. He says the planes landing gear malfunctioned. You can see the plane come in for a landing earlier today. It bounced on its belly before wobbling to the right and sliding to a stop. Fire rescue rushed in as the pilot made his way out. He says this could have ended much worse. It couldnt have worked out better, the witness down the runway. It was just perfect. Everyone just hopped out. He says he was fortunate to have enough time and fuel to circle around until emergency crews arrived on the scene. Right now, the homelessness issue thats been boiling over in Volusia County is coming up again. Local leaders will try once again to find a solution. It is a story weve been following for a while now. This is all unfolding outside the county Administration Building on north beach street in Daytona Beach. News 6 reporter loren korn has been on top of this story. She joins us live from city hall. The mayor of Daytona Beach. What do leaders hope to accomplish . Well, they hope to accomplish to provide homes for the homeless. They tell me it is a process. In that letter, they described that they have shortterm goals, longterm goals, the shortterm plan being getting money from the city, donations to help out the homeless. Longterm, to build a facility thats not only a shelter about you to provide medical and social services. Homelessness, a problem that the city of Daytona Beach says its had for a while. But now the city says its got to act fast, finding temporary and permanent housing after taking in more than 100 Homeless People all at once. The mayors sending this letter to county commissioners, discussing short and longterm goals, saying in part, well coordinate and leverage the current resources in our community and the longterm solution would be safe harbor. Saying, quote, donating 10 years and building the facility. The county offering to pay 4 million to build the property and the city to pay for operational costs. Theres no shortterm fix for the city of daytona and for Volusia County. The c. E. O. Of Central Florida commission on homelessness says the reason why orlando is striving with the homeless is because they provide homes instead of shelters. Every city in america that solved this that made a longterm commitment to Housing First and that methodology has brought real solutions. Meanwhile, the city says its goal is also to provide permanent housing for the homeless but says its a process and are working on the plans now. And in this meeting tonight that starts at 6 00, the city tells me they will be getting 110,000 in donations just for the homeless. The city says its also partnered up with halifax hospital to provide medical services for the homeless and theyre helping to pay the additional funds to help with Salvation Army to provide those extra beds. Weve learned the body found last month is the homeowner. This was the scene in paisley back on january 18th. Were told dental records were used to identify dennis jones.
