spreading rumors about a planned shooting. parents said they didn't know what to believe. that fight broke out on thursday at west port high school, just south of state road 40 in ocala. news 6 reporter eric sandoval talked with some of those parents today and he took their concerns to the school district. what have you been able to find out? >> so many students and parents were scared the shooting may indeed happen. about a thousand students stayed home from school here today at west port. school leaders tell me police gave them the all-clear so they didn't really see the reason to worry parents, but parents say that's the least they could have done. >> i was worried for my children. >> she says she was so worried about a rumored mass shooting happening at her kids' school >> school leaders tell us the rumors started after this cell phone video of a fight at west port high school over a confederate flag went viral over the weekend. >> but they say that's all it was. a threat. >> we, as parents, have a right, and we put our children in that school and we assume they're protected while they're there. okay. if there's a problem, why were we not contacted? that's what i'm really upset about. >> i don't really talk about what if's. we'd be here until the sun sets every day. >> we took the concerns to marion county school spokesman kevin christian. >> all the parents are dealing with what if's today. >> we have to deal with what if's. but if we do that, that's all we social media. >> what about a call to parents despite what you may have read on social media. >> that's a conversation we're having. quite honestly i had several conversations with parents this morning who simply said why that's something we're discussing. >> now some parents tell us they were even more concerned because unexcused absence if their child decided to stay home because they were scared. the district had a change of tune on that late today and they say now students can make up police say happened inside a lake county daycare. the center's director faces serious charges tonight. >> cell phone video caught it. this video here shows the director at the children's palace daycare, in clermont, hitting a boy with stuffed animals and then you see right there she drops him face-first on to a mat. news 6 reporter troy campbell has been getting answers about this all afternoon now. he joins us live. that daycare is now closed, correct? >> and there's a sign on the door, too. we've also learned that the on friday, she was already on probation out of orange county at the time of her arrest. the daycare right behind me, a sign on that door saying they're closed and they will reopen with a new owner. again the video you're about to see is very graphic. >> captured on the cell phone of a daycare employee, handed over to law enforcement for evidence, clermont police arresting the 41-year-old kimberly reed, the director of children's palace learning center in clermont. investigators say the video shows reed hitting a 4-year-old boy several times with stuffed animals and lifting him in the air only to drop him on the ground while the boy appeared to be resting. >> it's uncomfortable to view the video, me as a parent, and this is also, we want to get it out there because if there's any other victims there. this is a 4-year-old child. >> the daycare worker notified the department of children and families, their investigators calling police. reed telling officers she was only playing with the child. >> the report said she was rough playing. when you view the video, it was very disturbing. it's not the case at all. out of orange county for welfare proud and grand theft, code investigators looking into whether she should have been working at the daycare in the first place. investigators are now looking for other possible victims. >> who knows. this could not be the first incident. this could have been going on for quite some time. she's the director of the daycare. we just happened to have an employee there that had enough courage to come out and let somebody know. >> we also asked investigators if they respond here often. they say it's relatively quiet here. a few years ago they got allegations of child abuse on another staff member. the case was never prosecuted because of a lack of evidence. and a woman says she toured the facility a month ago and decided not to bring her 4-year-old child here after meeting the staff. she decided not to bring her child here for the story we're putting together at 6:00. until then, live from clermont, troy campbell, news 6. >> thank you. troy. big new developments now on this you remember this. we learned the orange county deputies involved in this will not be facing charges. cell phone video shows deputies arresting deidre reed last july outside the retreat apartments near ucf. reed later claimed her arm was dislocated during the arrest. the new report says the deputies were justified because reed and her friend were resisting. trespassing charges against reed were later dropped. >> new details on a violent carjacking that led to one suspect getting shot by orlando police. it happened last friday. we've learned the 34-year-old danielle evans drove toward the surgery and the two officers. the officers then fired shots. we're told she and two men stole the car at gunpoint from the 66-year-old norris hicks. officers tracked them down a couple hours later. the shooting happened in the parking lot of the bakery at south street and bumby avenue. evans was not seriously hurt. and questioned. the officers are on leave while fdle investigates. >> big developments tonight on the spread of the zika virus. the world health organization declared the mosquito-borne illness a worldwide emergency now. the disease has been spreading quickly. there could be as many as 4 million new infections this year. right now, there's no treatment for it. you can county home. sky 6 flew over the scene on north wickham road in melbourne around noon today. according to our news partners at "florida today," the 54-year-old sandra cook and 60-year-old man were found with gunshot wounds. both were dead at the scene. we're told cook was a teacher at right now, police say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the shooting. >> a warmer day to woman grabbing the purse from a 79-year-old woman. it happened in the parking lot of wal-mart on highway 200 on florida. we're told the person drove off in a white car, that one right there, you see pulling out, almost hitting some people. she took the victim's wallet and cell phone. she's charged with robbery and aggravated battery. >> an unusual scene at a popular orlando hotel. a couple attacked police son was standing right next to them. this happened friday night at the hard walk at the universal citywalk. police say the man refused to leave and used his head to shove one of the officers. his wife, dawn, then started yelling at one of the officers before kicking one of them in the leg, knocking him down. they're both charged with battery on an officer. their son is with a this video shows a police officer shoving a teen through a window. police say a fight between two teens started this whole thing. rodriguez breaking it up. he pushes the 17-year-old lee hagan. the two this soon could cut down on the so-called specialty plates. a senate subcommittee approved a bill to raise the number of pre-orders required to stay in circulation. the threshold is 1,000. 4,000. plates that could be affected are the orlando magic plates, 3200 of those have been issued. marlins would also be on the chopping block. right now, a similar bill is moving through the state house. if
