hello, again. i'm john hopkins. -- jessica kartalija. >> don scott. a shoot ing ing on the las vegas strip. ron matz is in the news room with the latest on shots fired over night. good afternoon. >> reporter: story still developing. three people are dead and several others injured. according to authorities people in a black range rover fired several shots around 4:30 this morning before crashing at the intersection surrounded by the bellagio. the car that it shot at burst into a taxi and shot into flames. the driver, the taxi driver and a passenger in the car were all killed. back to you. >> the intersection is expected to be closed for hours. new information on the accident that topped traffic for hours this morning. around 5:30 a tractor trailer hit a man changing a tire on his car. that man is dead, two people in his car is hurt. no word on whether the semi driver will be charged with anything. lawmakers have passed a bill that reverses a decision labeling pit bulls as inheritly dangerous. the bill holds all dog owners responsible not just pit bulls owners. it grants dog owners the right to hearings to prove their dog isn't dangerous. last year maryland's highest court ruled pit bulls owners and their landlords would be held responsible for dog bites a move advocates calls discriminatory. first a doctor losing his job then he commits suicide. now investigators are going through photographs and videos of his patients examinations. mike schuh is live this noon with what some of the patients are doing now. good afternoon mike. >> reporter: good afternoon. the lawyers are sign ing up as many of those patients as possible taking out ads online and in print. they're telling the client that they have a pretty good chance with their cases against his former employee john hopkins hospital. >> doctor nikita levy secretly videotaped his patients inside exam rooms. those violations caused over 300 calls to flood a police hotline possible victims concerned they were on his cameras. there's also a rush to speak to lawyers. this one took out ads speaking to dozens of patients who are now his clients. >> fear, out rage, betrayal, breech of faith. my clients come in and are asking all kinds of questions. he made secret images of us, what did he do with them? >> he recently closed a similar case representing victims of pediatrician earl bradley who videotaped himself abusing children. >> they have an ongoing obligation to vet these doctors. >> john hopkins has said in a statement words cannot express how deeply sorry we are for every patient whose privacy may have been violated. one former patient who didn't want her face shown claims dr. levy flirted with her causing her to switch doctors. >> what made you uneasy about him? >> the way that he would you know say certain things. i was uncomfortable. >> hopkins says coworkers contacted security about dr. levy february 4th and soon after they found evidence of the secret recordings. they fired him on february 8th. he committed suicide at his home earlier this week. police believe there are many, many victims. >> there had to be red flags. >> reporter: the medical examiner's office tells us this morning the cause of death is pending. the baltimore sun is saying that levy left a note with apology for his wife, went into his basement, put a plastic bag over his head and filled it with helium. >> doctor levy worked at the east baltimore medical center since 1988. it will be at least one more day before super star oscar pistorius learns if a judge will let him out of jail before his murder trial. a dramatic new development came today during day 3. >> cameras snapped as track star and murder suspect oscar pistorius turned to court in south africa, hoping to be freed on bail. defense lawyers say a new twist in the case may help that happen. police announce they are replacing the chief detective investigating this shooting death of the runner's girlfriend because he himself is facing 7 charges of attempted murder. hilton bolta is accused of being drunk in a government vehicle when he allegedly opened fire on a mini van pull of passengers in 2011. the charges were with drawn but later reinstated raising credibility. >> it seems to be very corrupt. >> pistorius's defense lawyers say he botched the investigation into reeva steenkemp's death. they blame him for contaminating the crime scene and changing his story about what happened. prosecutors insist the sprinter intended to kill his girlfriend when he pumped four bullets through his bathroom door. pistorius says he thought she was an intruder. police admitted they have no evidence contradicting the athlete's claim the shooting was an accident. defense lawyers say the prosecution's case is falling apart and expect a judge to free pistorius until he goes on trial. >> the bail hearing enters a 4th day tomorrow, the murder trial is likely still months away. in prince george's county fire investigators continue to look into a predawn house fire that killed man and two young girls. the blaze broke out around 4:00 this morning at a home on leslie avenue. a woman and 8-year-old were able to escape with firefighters rescuing the man and three girls. emt's were able to revive one of the children, the others were pronounced dead on arrival at the local hospital. a 3-year-old has died after being hit by a car. police say the child's father got out of the car with a 2-year-old and it was apparently still running with the grandmother and the 3-year-old inside. the car started rolling backwards and the 3-year-old fell out and was run over and killed. police are investigating. the cause of an over night train derailment is still being investigated. crews continue to work the ten cars of the freight that just before midnight jumped the tracks across singerly road. two cars are filled with acid but there's not report of it leaking so there's been no evacuation. there's also no injuries. a powerful winter storm is slamming the midwest this noon. 30 million people in 18 states are under a winter weather advisory or warning. forecasters expect more than a foot of snow in kansas with other areas picking up 9 to 12 inches. it could be the biggest winter storm to hit the midwest in 2 years. many are welcoming the snow because the region has been going through a severe draught. back here taking a live look outside, it's chilly but no snow. could the midwest winter storm have an effect on our area area? we have complete coverage with marty bass in the out back and tim williams in the weather center. good afternoon. >> it will be coming here. right now let's talk about what's directly impacting us, the winds. it's what we're dealing with this afternoon. 17 mile per hour winds right now sustained 20 out towards elkin. it is gusting higher, up to around 28 miles per hour over the last hour. because of the winds and cold air our temperature just around 32 gives us the wind chill of 21 degrees in central maryland, 4 degrees in oak land. now, that cold air is going to play into the weekend. it will play into that storm system moving our way. for more, out to marty bass. >> reporter: good afternoon. we are going to get a slug of mixed mess after rain. that thing is ramping up. it's filled in almost 50% since we were doing the eyewitness news morning edition. now, our graphic shows that low is going to be trunding up the 95 corridor after it makes a quick hit on the great lakes. new england is going to get it again, probably more snow than we're seeing in the midwest. boston already has 31 inches of snow in february. their record is 41 inches. they could break that this weekend. because of this cold pool of air we're going to see a bit of mixed precipitation tomorrow afternoon. temperatures will bottom out at 32 degrees tomorrow night then slowly rise to a high of 41 with rain and rain heavy at times on saturday. beyond that, how is the end of february starting to look?
