. >> reporter: the entire incident is shocking to richard forcer. he is gardner's boyfriend of 2 1/2 years and thought she was going to aruba with her family. he suspects foul play. >> all i can imagine, while she was there, whatever was happening to her, she was screaming for me. >> they know each other a couple of years as friends. and i think they met on a dating site and after that, they spoke with each other and they saw two times a month. and they have good contact with each other. through the telephone. >> reporter: now, aruba authorities won't say why giordano is a suspect in this case. meanwhile a search of records shows another woman filed a peace order against him last year. >> thank you very much. you will recall aruba is the same place where alabama teenager natalee holloway disappeared in 2005. her body has never been found. the murder of a johns hopkins researcher trial continues. the mother was on the phone with her son when she heard his gasp for years. prosecutors say 38-year-old john wagner and his girlfriend attacked pit karen to get money to buy cocaine. the baltimore fire chief is defending recruits caught up in a cheating scandal. 20 recruits received copies before taking the test. the instructors should take all the blame. six employees have been recommended for charges. the fire department says all of the students involved have since been retested and all have passed. some uplifting news about the state of maryland's economy. treasurer nancy cobb says standard and poor's will not downgrade this state's perfect aaa bond rating despite the decision to downgrade the country's. the governor says that will enable the state to better invest in roads, jobs and schools. and as jay dow reports for wjz this morning, the news is looking better on wall street and beyond. >> reporter: blokele markets picked up this morning where wall street left off. asian stocks jumped in early trading, one day after u.s. stocks rebounded from their biggest loss in almost 2 1/2 years. >> the whole day was sort of a crazy day. >> reporter: the dow swung up and down before closing with a gain of 429 points. investors got a boost in confidence after the federal reserve announced it would keep record low interest rates for two more years. >> i'm just going to go on and deal with the rollercoaster as it goes. up and down. i mean what can i do? >> reporter: congress is on recess until next month. still, many lawmakers are getting an earful from constituents frustrated with washington and the economy. >> this is a question. i asked a question. why not tax the rich more? >> reporter: a town hall meeting with senator john mccain turned ugly. >> frustration and anger. the belief is that we have not come together to address the issues that are of great concern to them. >> reporter: both parties will have to come together soon as part of the new debt deal. a bipartisan so-called super committee of 12 lawmakers will be responsible for finding more than a trillion dollars in deficit cuts this fall. three members have been appointed. the rest of the panel is expected to be named next week. in washington, jay dow, wjz eyewitness news. >> and despite yesterday's come back, the dow is still 12% off its high for this year. for a brief moment, apple gains the title of america's most valuable company. and at one point yesterday, apple stock value moved ahead of exxonmobil. the computer giant has more than doubled the net income in worth thanks to the sales of i-phones and i-pads. exxonmobil rallied to finish slightly ahead of apple. singer song writer gavin degraw is oust the hospital this morning after he was beaten up by a group of men in new york city. he was attacked by the men 4:00 a.m. sunday following a night of drinking and was then hit by a taxi cab. he suffered a concussion and a broken nose among some other injuries. police have yet to make any arrests. the first-ever black u.s. secret service agent has died and here in maryland, charles gittens joined the service in 1956 and worked out of offices in charlotte, north carolina and new york city, investigating counter fitting and bank fraud. he retired from the secret service in 1979 and went to work for the department of justice. he was 82 years old. turning to sports. the orioles are still looking for some kind of spark as another new pitcher loses in his debut. reyes put on an orioles uniform for the first time and pitched against the white sox last night. we only last four innings and the former toronto blue jay would give up two homeruns. and a baltimore born player gavin floyd would get the win for the white sox 4-3. he is one of the nfl's bad boys turned team player. rickey williams is one. the most eccentric players in the league and the sports director mark viviano is here to explain why. >> good morning. a self proclaimed rebel at hart. rickey williams is one of the more fascinating personalities in sports. a documentary on his unconventional life journey aired on espn this year. his journey now brings him to baltimore, as a backup running back for the ravens. he signed a contract and joined the team for his first training camp practice yesterday. williams' resume includes a heisman trophy, the best in college. his pro career has been mostly productive but more known for how he walked away from it all for a while to travel and pursue a spiritual life. he used marijuana, dealt with social anxiety disorder, and played in canada, when he was suspended from the nfl. overall, he has enjoyed a 10-year career. the last three with the miami dolphins. in the past, he was villified and ridiculed and now a raven, he says he has no regrets. >> i think i respect the game more and i appreciate the game more than i did. but i'm not 20 years old anymore. so my parties are a little bit different. but i appreciate the game. and i love to compete. and i use my mind more than i use my body, but still, the body is strong, and i enjoy playing this game. >> williams says he is happy to be reunited with cam cameron, the ravens offensive coordinator who was williams coach in miami four years ago. williams is not expected to play in the ravens preseason opener at philadelphia on thursday night. don, back to you. >> thank you very much. the game time tomorrow night is 7:30. fun stuff. youtube. espn. what viv was referring to was one of those great movies made for tv. run, rickey run. 30 on 30, espn. so some of the most quality television you would ever want to see and i am going to set time aside. did you see it?
