Then we heard what soupeded like an explosion. Police have not said why she struck the barrier. Roads are still blocked near that building as police do their investigation. We can see at least a dozen Police Officers scouring through this scene looking for evidence. Theyre directing traffic around the area. We can say the mood is calmer than it was when the shots were first fired around 2 15. We talked to congressman dutch ruppersberger. He describes what that was like. Take a listen. I was coming out of the capitol. I was going over to my office. I did not hear shots. 2 minutes after i left the capitol parking lot is when the incident occurred. I came back to my office and people are saying its a lock down, get into your office. The Capitol Police have trained our staff and let us all know that when there are situations like that that occur youre supposed to lock your doors, turn your lights out and listen for communication. Thats exactly what occurred. Reporter wjz also talked to a young man who lives about a block away from the capitol. He said he was in the basement of his home when he heard the gunshots, maybe 7 or 8. He rushed outside to see what was happening. Take a listen as he describes what he saw outside his house. I saw a black car that looked like it had run up the side of the curve or crashed. It was off the road. A few seconds later i saw a Police Officer kind of hugging a small child, taking that child away from the scene. Reporter at that point he said officers rushed him back into his house and told him to stay there as they did their investigation. So, again, much calmer out here right now. Authorities say this entire incident started around 2 18 sand was over at 2 24. Witnesses are describing a chaotic scene at the capitol. A woman led police on a chase starting at the white house. She was shot and killed near the capitol. Capitol complex was on lock down for about an hour until it was determined to be safe. Surveillance video helps anne Arundel County Police arrest a suspect linked to numerous smash and grab robberies at a local business. Wjz is live. Monique griego has more on how they tracked them down. Monique. Reporter well, police say the suspect actually wore a mask or disguise. This time Surveillance Video captured something else. A calculated and extremely quick robbery caught on tape. Surveillance video from parks liquors shows the suspect break the stores window, climb inside and then 10 seconds later backs off and takes off with cash. Anne Arundel Police arrested and identified the man as 54yearold david holland. Hes been terrorizing our local business community. Police say holland is suspected in countless smash and grab robberies in maryland. They finally caught up with him last week after this Surveillance Video captured the car he was driving. Since july 28th detectives say hes hit at least nine Small Businesses in anne arundel county. You name the type of business and he targeted it. Its the same exact ammo. It was to use a tire iron to smash out a window and to head straight for the register. He was like down to business. You know, in and out. Lindsay at floyds saw the Surveillance Video from when police say holland smashed their shop. Break the window, maybe 20 seconds, took the register out, got all 4. 25 and was gone. Besides the scattered window their sense of security was damaged. Well, i feel like we fear our safety because it was after closing. Reporter holland is facing nine counts of commercial robbery. Police say they do expect to link him to even more robberies. Thank you. Police say he got away with thousands of dollars but caused more than that in damage. Hundreds of bikers gather in new york city to support the man injured in the terrifying motorcycle altercation. They were supporting edwin myses, one of the riders involved. Cell phone video shows the bikers chased the suv for miles while the driver tried to flee. His wife released a statement saying their family was in grave damagend feared for their lives. One biker has been charged. Eight people are dead and more than a dozen injured after a church bus crashed in tennessee. The report for wjz. Many of those killed for seen nior citizens from a North Carolina church group. Video from the after math shows the bus on its side, ripped apart. The impact of the crash so severe seats now lay on the side of the road. Seniors from a church in North Carolina were returning home from a gospel conference when the accident happened on a highway near knoxville, tennessee. It hit an suv and tractor trailer. The tractor trailer then became fully engulfed. Officials say the driver of tractor trailer was killed, the driver of the suv and 6 passengers on the bus. As part of the investigation the tennessee Highway Patrol said it will look at the bus drivers qualifications and driving history as well as any other possibly mechanical failure that might have contributed to the crash. Baltimore county Police Continue their investigation into a double shooting in middle river. Sky eye chopper 13 over the seen on southern road. The two men shot are butch and brandon jewel, a father and son. Detectives believe the two were targeted and this was not a random act. Were also told brandon jewel, in his 20s, was shot in the wheelchair he uses. Both men are expected to survive. Frightening find in Baltimore County, the body of a 49yearold man. Hundreds of migrants were trying to reach the island when their ship caught fire and capsized early thursday morning. A pregnant woman and her 3yearold child are among the dead. The islands mayor called it horrific. Helicopters flew over head as crews pulled bodies from the sea. The Italian Coast Guard saved more than 150 people. The Un Refugee Agency said about 500 africans boarded the ship in libya. You have to think of the tragedy that lies behind it. These people, many of them are likely to have been war fleeing persecution in their own countries. Historian Peter Simpson thought he knew everything about his great kun you knowing consolidate. Frank was a corporal. His body was never found. He didnt know he had a will, leaving everything to his father and sister, alice, in 1915. A new British Government website helped him discover corporal hills last written wishes. The actual moment when you are shown a document which you know your dead relative handled then you got to be pretty disinvolved not to be moved by such a thing. Before british troops went to the front line many wrote final words to loved ones. Hundreds of thousands of those letters were never delivered. Each of those boxes contains about 200 wills. Many of them were never sent because it revealed sensitive military plans from the battlefield. Like this one from a solar who told his mother he was moving to the front line.
