through. >> the president referenced key members of the team. highlighting joe flacco's leadership on the field. and the ravens win over the 49ers in super bowl xlvii. >> capped off one of the greatest post seasons ever by quarterback. more than 1100 passing yards, 11 touchdowns, no interceptions. i don't know about you, joe, but i would say that qualifies as a leap. >> reporter: general manager ozzie newsome and john what harbaugh, moved by the president's words. >> i want to thank mr. president for hosting us today. it's an unbelievable honor. we are grateful to be here. and i want you to know, we have plans to be back here next year. >> reporter: the ravens had a big following at the ceremony. dozens of baltimoreans and marylanders attended. >> just having the ravens here at the white house, i think just makes all of us from the baltimore region very excited. and it puts our city back on the map once again. >> reporter: well, baltimore was absolutely on the map here today. in fact, there was purple all around this area today, on the south lawn of the white house. ozzie newsome, as you saw in the video, and coach john harbaugh, presented the president with his own jersey. for him being the 44th president of the united states. a wonderful day out here. ravens took off pretty quickly. we didn't get an opportunity to talk with him. but we can tell you, they were all smiles, as were their fans out here in washington, d.c., at the white house today. i'm kai jackson. reporting live from the white house. back to you. >> and kai, thank you. we're going to have to get the president to ravens' stadium with that jersey on this upcoming season. thank you, kai. and we'll have much more from kai on the ravens' visit to the white house. and an emotional moment for torrey smith. that's all coming up at 5:30. the city of baltimore settles a school bully lawsuit. denise is in the newsroom with details on the settlement. denise? >> the city agrees to pay $45,000 to the family of a girl bullied and beaten at school. the lawsuit filed by the girls' mother, states three girls assaulted her daughter at carter votech back in twed 2008. in 2008. the girl reportedly needed three surgeries after the attack happened. it happened in the cafeteria. the girl has also been diagnosed with post-traumatic shock syndrome. >> the mother was suing the city and the school, carver vo tech, for $100,000. the shooting investigation into the death of a 1-year-old boy, has now been handed over to the u.s. marshal's office, baltimore city police are now looking for a third suspect. wjz is live. rochelle ritchie with new details on the investigation for us tonight. rochelle? >> reporter: hi, mary. two men are in jail, charged with murder. now, the hunt is on for the third suspect. now, despite the father being critically injured, he was able to tell baltimore city police one of the accused gunmen was in his car, prior to the shooting. >> reporter: baltimore city police are now on the lookout for this man, robberid mayo, wanted -- rashid mayo. ed in the death of carter scott. the shooting happened in cherry hill. 26-year-old cornell harvey is just one of the men already charged with his murder. >> that's a baby. he has a mother, you know? and for them to do that -- they get what they get. >> reporter: in court documents, the boy's father says prior to the shooting, he received a call from harvey. he said harvey asked him to come pick him up so they could hang out. that's when he said harvey told him to drive to the 1200 block of cherry hill road. >> this was not a random occurrence. this was not just something that took place. >> reporter: the victim, unaware of what was to come, his son, little carter, in the back seat, part of the cherry dale apartment complex. doctors say harvey gets out to tell a girl. harvey nervously walked back and forth between the car, telling him, quote, stay right here, not too much longer, before the father could react, his car is lit up with bullets. >> it's sad. i mean, i got a kid myself. it's really sad. i don't know what's wrong with people these days. >> reporter: 1-year-old carter scott dies from the gunfire. his father is taken to the hospital in critical condition. but still able to identify harvey as the person he says set him and his son up for murder. 23-year-old eddie tarver, also charged, was seen running from the shooting but was quickly taken into custody. and now, police are offering a $2,000 cash reward for the third suspect, rashid mayo. >> reporter: and the little boy's father, rashid scott was recently acquitted on a murder charge. police are not saying if it has anything to do with this shooting. i'm rochelle ritchie, wjz eyewitness news. >> rochelle, thank you. and again, police continue to look for a third suspect. nine people are hurt after a school bus collides. 55 children were on the bus, heading to school in ellicott city. five were hurt. two have been treated and released from the hospital. the bus driver, van driver and two adults in the van were also injured. police believe the driver turned around to address the children on the bus when he hit the vafnlt he's been cited with -- negative driving -- negligent driving. tonight, the ntsb just released its first comprehensive comprehensive. investigator mike hellgren breaks down the new information for us. mike? >> reporter: mary, it boils down to this. federal investigators remain on the scene, trying to gather information. it's a detailed process. and a big part of it is trying to interview the truck driver. >> reporter: the national transportation safety board, which is leading the investigation into the truck train crash and explosion in rosedale, has yet to interview the driver of the truck. john alban, jr., was released from shock trauma over the weekend, just days after his mack truck collided with the csx train. the ntsb told wjz, its investigators are still trying to make arrangements to ask him questions as he recovers. the agency also revealed its crew on the ground will be leaving the scene by friday. they've completed a comprehensive inspection of the truck. and scanned the crash site. and they will use that scan to do a computerized recreation of the accident. >> if we see that there are areas that need to be improved, we will -- we can and we will, issue saiftdz recommendations. >> reporter: some of those who work near the crossing tell wjz, underbrush has grown closer to the track, and they are concerned whether it affected the driver and whether the driver could have seen the train. there are no industrial signals at the crossing. >> what was the condition as the driver pulled up? could he sufficiently see down the tracks to see that a train was coming? those are exactly the types of things we'll be doing. >> reporter: they also removed some of the mechanicals from the truck to do further investigation. few here will ever forget the explosion. >> it was very, very loud. it shook all of the houses. >> i saw the back of the building was completely blown out. >> reporter: federal investigators did not comment on a safety review of alban's company, which they were expected to complete this week. >> reporter: and the ntsb has not determined a cause. and it has not given a timetable to complete its investigation. reporting live, mike hellgren, wjz eyewitness news. >> all right, mike. thank you. trains have been running on the tracks since late last week. it's another day of sunshine and low humidity. here's a live look outside right now. from sky eye chopper 13. it's a great day, and turning into a great evening. meteorologist chelsea ingram and bob turk have your first warning weather forecast. how much longer before this humidity is back? bob? >> well, give it a couple of days. all right? let's take a look at conditions right now. beautiful afternoon once again. the key to this comfort is the dew point. it's 45 degrees. if the dew point were 70, it would be very muggy out there. 68 in oakland. 66, ocean city. d.c., up to 80 now. around the rest of the region, we do have some, maybe some clouds coming in later in the day tomorrow. to our east, some humidity coming up the ocean. to our west and southwest, some scattered shower activity. more to the south, with more on that, and how that may affect our region by the end of the week, chelsea in the outback. chelsea? >> reporter: thanks, bob. let's go ahead and take a look at the radar. our first warning weather radar. we have an area of low pressure located down in the gulf. now, that is expected to travel up the eastern seaboard. how close inland does it come? and when will it interact with an area of low pressure out towards our west? those are the big questions. for now, we can tell you that the periods of heaviest rainfall, where we could see even potential for flash flooding, that's going to occur friday into friday night. but it's all going to depend on the track of that low-pressure system and how close inland it comes. as to how much precipitation we can expect. and bob will have more coming up in your complete first warning weather forecast. back to you. >> major league baseball is questioning as many as 25 players, suspected of buying receive -- perceived performance-enhancing drugs from a clinic in miami. marliemarlie hall reports from the bronx, and new details in the case. >> reporter: cbs has learned that 25 major league baseball players are now being investigated for performance- enhancing drugs. some, who have not been involved in past drug scandals. they are suspected of buying drugs from an anti-aging clinic in miami. cbs news has also learned that tony bosh, founder of biogenesis of america, will take an oath before telling investigators everything he knows. he reportedly agreed to talk to the league after it said it would drop its lawsuit against him. two are yankees star alex rodriguez and bruins slugger, ryan braun. >> i assume i know why everybody is here. >> reporter: braun refused to talk about the allegations wednesday night. and wednesday morning, joe girardi said he had not spoken to rodriguez since the story broke. rodriguez is recovering from hip surgery. >> my focus is not on what mlb is investigate being in all of is that. and i -- i don't want to get caught up in that. >> reporter: the latest doping allegations were a hot topic before the game here at yankees staid yuvment many fans are disappointed. others are glad to see the league cracking down. >> i'm just grad to -- glad to see baseball. i hope all of that garbage is out of the sport. >> i'm a little disappointed. because they're pretty much the role models for kids like me. >> reporter: evidence for some players will be hard to come by. sources say that bosh dealt only in cash and did not always have direct contact with the athletes he sold to. in new york, marlie hall, wjz eyewitness news. >> and the head of the mlb players union says the commissioner has asured -- assured him, no discipline will be handed out until the investigation is completed. 44 -- 84-year-old gloria mackenzie is now half a billion richer. the drawing was may 18th. special congratulations to my cousin, gloria mackenzie. i hope she's listening. remember that long line in our family tree and tradition of sharing. save people trapped in philadelphia. what a volunteer fire company is doing to try to catch the arsonists that left seven firefighters injured. after an intense rescue at the bay bridge. firefighters weather forecast is coming up. at least one person is dead and 13 injured, after a building collapse in philadelphia. rescue crews and witnesses jumped in to save people. vinita nair is in philadelphia with the latest. >> crews worked frantically to rescue people trapped in the rubble in a collapsed building in philadelphia. at least one person is dead. 13 others have been rescued. it took firefighters hours to reach some of the victims. >> the biggest challenge is getting the people out of the tons of rubble off of folks. getting them disentangled. then getting them extricated. >> reporter: rubble was once a four-story building in the process of being demolished. it collapsed onto a thrift store, trapping people inside. witnesses instantley became rescuers. >> we went over to the building. we said, can you hear us? can you hear us? say something. and we tried to find the people. personally, i helped pull out two. >> reporter: jordan mclauchlan said he could hear the building coming down. >> the building was like, it had really big aftershock on the ground. you could feel it shake. >> firefighters conducted a hands-only search for the first hour after the building collapsed. they used buckets to use bricks and search dogs to locate people who were trapped. >> reporter: ambulances rushed victims to area hospitals for treatment. city officials say crews are digging through the debris to make sure no one is still trapped. >> we did not know and we do not know how many people were actually in that store when the wall collapsed on the building. >> reporter: crews are working to stabilize what is left of the salvation army store so they can get to the basement and finish their search. vinita nair, wjz eyewitness news. >> amazingly, all of those pulled out harrisburg expressway. particularly in the northbound direction. shawan road to belfast. on the top side inner loop, bumper to bumper there, from stevenson road to harvard road. average speed, only about 35 miles an hour. west side inner loop, that's jammed up from 95 past liberty. give yourself a little extra time. no change in the situation on 70 westbound. still very slow there, from 29 over to bethany lane. as far as accidents go, hollands ferry road. at west patapsco. essex at liberty road. edmonds at swan. and also orleans street. you can see the inner loop, quite slow there around the thank you. common sports injury, acl and rotator cuff, take people out of the game with you often. denise is live in studio b, as we ask about this important topic. >> yes. i'm with dr. alvin deterline. and we're not only talking about athletes who are serious young or old. but anybody who does activity outside of the norm. vic mentioned acl, but what other injuries do you see that are common? >> acl injuries are common common in football and soccer and things like that. meniscus tears are common. they can happen from a twisting or turning or getting up awkwardly from a squat. a wide variety of things can cause meniscus tears. they are probably the most common cause of knee pain in individuals. >> is that because those of us who are athletic are doing it wrong? or because the body is taking wear and tear? >> i think it's mostly a wear and tear. it depends on the circumstances of the injury. often times, people can get a meniscus tear without anything being wrong. but oftentimes, older patients will have a weakening of that cartilage, which predisposes it to giving way and tearing, should they have a misstep or something that would be relatively mild, comparatively. >> reporter: so no reason to suffer if you have an injury from some athletic -- some athletic injury. there is help. >> absolutely. meniscus tears are very common. they are treated either surgically or nonsurgically. a lot of patients do have some existing arthritis that can cause meniscus tear as well as. those can be treated effectively with physical therapy and injections and medications and others may have to be treated with surgery in trimming it out through a minimally invasive arthroscopic approach. >> thank you. >> and if you century from back pain, arthritis, knee or bowl xlvii. it's a glorious day out there now. i have to tell you, it was a bit toastier out here back then. but right now, it's a very comfortable, breezy afternoon, as the sun is about to set. bob? >> it was a great day out there. really was. a lot of sunshine. mild temperatures, actually, right normal for this day in june. take a look at temperatures now. dc coming in at the airport at 80 degrees. we're at 77 here. 66, the cool spot, ocean city. and oakland, 66 degrees. so you're at the ocean, down at sea level. or in oakland, at 2500 feet up, you're in the coolest place around. 77, cumberland, hagerstown. elkton at 76. locally, mid- to upper 70s. still low humidity. normal high today is 80. and it's just about where we got to. looks like tomorrow, we'll have a few more clouds, however. and a little more humid tomorrow night. maybe a scattered shower or thundershower in the area. southeast winds, currently bringing some of that moisture in off the delineatic ocean. that will continue to increase as a disturbance. it may become a tropical depression briefly. but it's heading across florida. got a lot of rain east of the center. the actual center is way out here in the gulf. kind of broken up. but could become briefly a tropical depression. it's going to bring a lot of rain to north and central florida. and southern georgia and the carolinas. because mainly what we think is going to head offshore. most of the heavy precip, eastern shore, may get an inch or two of rain. may get more. to the west of us, the front to the west. that will be approaching the western sections of the state, with heavy showers, particularly in the mountain areas. in between here. heaviest rain south and east of us. north and west of us. that will be on friday. by saturday, we think most of the activity will be past us. we're keeping just a chance of a scattered shower on saturday. but sunday should begin to dry out. won't be all that bad. low pressure across the southeast. starts to move in our direction. and the other, midwest, with that warm front, overrunning that slightly cool air. that's the chance of the rain. particularly friday. i think the baltimore and d.c. area may pick up half inch to as much as an inch and a quarter with this system on friday. west of us, maybe 2 inches. eastern shore, could see 2 inches or more friday into saturday. east winds on the bay, 5 to 10 knots. bay temp, around 71 degrees. so overnight tonight, a few high clouds moving in. normal lows, we're predicting a low of 59 degrees. tomorrow, about 77 earlier. right now. but a lot more clouds in the area. particularly high clouds. and then it kind of gets lower and denser clouds. maybe some showers by evening. maybe a rumble of thunder by tomorrow night as well. >> thank you. here are some of the stories people are talking about tonight. the highest honor for the national championship. baltimore ravens make a trip to washington, d.c. to celebrate their super bowl win. wjz is live at the white house now. kai jackson has more on the one raven he specifically mentioned during today's celebration. kai? >> that's right. there are so many stories coming out of this super bowl victory, as we know. a number of poignant moments, regarding the ups and downs of the ravens. a season that the president talked about today. let's take a look at the videotape. ravens went 10-6 in the regular season. that wasn't the best record in the nfl. however, it was clear, this team was full of fighters. in fact, the resilience that the team has came through in one particular player, tory smith, whose younger brother, tevin, was killed september 23rd, the day ever about the ravens played the new england patriots. you see that resilience in players like torrey smith, who lost his younger brother in a motorcycle accident the night before the game against the patriots. but tory wanted to play. and he responded with 127 yards and two scores. so we're so proud of tory. >> reporter: yeah, those touchdown passes that torrey smith caught. i think anyone who watched the game and ravens fans will remember his state of mind, knowing he was in pain, after losing his brother. his family was in pain. and his ability to really focus and do that was so admirable. the president also mentioned other folks. you talk about the baltimore ravens. have you to talk about people like o.j. briganz, who has battled als and has done it courageously with his wife shanna. and you have to talk about veteran ray lewis, who is now retired. and ed reed, one time free safety for years. now going on to the houston texans. the president talking about every one of these players. joe flacco, of course, brought this team together, took them to new orleans and got super bowl xlvii under their belts. two super bowl championships for the baltimore ravens franchise. not bad for a franchise that is only 17 years old. back to you. >> i'm just thankful that ed reed didn't sing today. okay? >> yeah. i don't think the president wanted him to sing today. >> all right. thank you very much, kai. president obama also sang about jacoby jones for his fancy footwork on dancing with the stars. it was back to business for president. president obama names u.s. ambassador to the united nations, susan rice, as the national security adviser. the outspoken rice was at the center surrounding the attack on the u.s. consulate on ben ghazi. president considered submitting her but withdrew her name after republicans made it clear that she wouldn't be confirmed. rice takes over for dornallan next month. there was still an unsolved mystery in her rescue at the finish line. erika said she would have died if not for a compassionate stranger, she knew only as joan from california. after her plea went national on cnn, the hero was tracked down. her name, amanda north, from california, she flew to baltimore today, to be reunited with erika. >> i can't believe i have a chance to see her and give her a big hug. >> i didn't think it would happen that quickly. and i was amazed that it did happen that quickly. and i'm so grateful to the viewers. show and finding her so quickly and getting in touch with you guys. >> reporter: and you can see the full reunion on anderson cooper, 360, on cnn tonight, at 8:00. michael jackson's daughter is in los angeles hospital right now, after a frantic 911 call, early this morning. as bigad shaban reports for wjz, there are indications she may have attempted suicide. >> pierce jackson is just 15 years old. the second child of the late michael jackson. but when news broke that she had been rushed to the hospital early wednesday morning, there were hints of a possible suicide attempt. entertainment tonight said on its website that pierce's mother confirmed, her daughter tried to take her own life and said the teenager has a lot going on these days. >> reporter: the jackson family compound is here in calabasas. los angeles county fire department confirms, crews responded overnight to a call from the neighborhood, for a possible overdose. >> at 1:27 this morning, we responded, concerning a medical situation, medical attention was offered and a patient was transported to a local hospital. >> reporter: paris's grand mother, katherine jackson, issued a statement, saying, being a sensitive 15-year-old is difficult no matter who you are. it is especially difficult when you lose the person closest to you. paris may have hinted about her mood in recent days on twitter. on tuesday, paris quoted the beatles, tweeting, yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away. now it looks as though they're here to stay. a source tells et, paris was upset that her mother wouldn't let her go to a rock concert. this was already a tough month for the jackson family. june 25th marks the four-year anniversary of michael's death. >> in los angeles, bigad shaban, wjz eyewitness news. and some reports contradict that it was a possible overdose and say that paris jackson arrived at the hospital with cuts on her wrist. a maryland volunteer fire company is taking on steps. denise has more on details of a major reward being offered. >> the bladensberg fire and rescue squad is offering $10,000 for any information leading to an arrest. seven firefighters were injured battling a house fire in february 2012 in riverdale. the injuries occurred when a burst of fresh air created a fire ball inside the home. two of the firefighters suffered critical injuries. a recent report said several of the firefighters were wearing outdated equipment, which may have led to the severity of their injuries. >> along with the volunteer fire department's reward, the bureau of alcohol, tobacco and firearmsarmsarms and explosives have posted a $5,000 reward. daring rescue on the bay bridge, after a contractor is seriously injured on the job. monique griego got a look at how anne arundel county's fire technical rescue team brought the men to safety. >> reporter: these types of rescues take a lot of training and are exreeply -- extremely technical. so the crew shows us exactly how they get it done. >> reporter: when a contractor was injured, 200 feet above the chesapeake bay, while working on the bridge, getting him to safety wasn't easy. it took a group of firefighters from anne arundel county, with a special set of skills. they're known as technical rescue. >> it was what we call high- angle rope rescue. >> reporter: captain david chen has done similar rescues in the past, had his team show us just how intricate and dangerous these type of calls can be. it takes a lot of training and equipment to get the job done. >> we're simulating, this is the bridge deck that we're standing on and the bridge railing there. >> reporter: technical rescue handles anything outside of the normal fire and normal calls. >> that's it. >> confined spaces, collapses and high-angled rescues. >> there's lots of things to think about. everything is different. >> reporter: yesterday, a different set of team members secured the worker beneath the bridge and brought him to the road level. today, i got to be the victim, as firefighters lifted me to safety as part of their ongoing training. >> any day could be the day we go to a call like this. so we have to be ready all the time. >> reporter: after being rescued, an ambulance took the injured worker to a waiting helicopter. >> that's what we train for and hope for, to get everybody safe -- protect lives and help people in their time of need. >> it's a good feeling that everybody worked together and got it done. >> reporter: monique griego, wjz eyewitness news. >> and that rescued worker suffered injuries to his head and his neck. time now for a quick look at some of scholarship has been awarded to four students this year. >> otherwise, i wouldn't be able to go. >> reporter: the al sanders scholarship award was awarded to two students. >> you like al. now al joins jerry weekweeknights. >> glen is one of two winners. his mother is thrilled. >> i think he was about 11 or 12 years old when i first saw them on tv. >> i'm interested in music theory and music performance. >> reporter: they manage 20 scholarship funds funds and in partnership with the ravens held the luncheon today. >> there's no purpose in serving yourself. but there is purpose in serving others. >> reporter: they thought so, too. >> reporter: now, 61 students received scholarships from those 20 scholarship funds. i'm pat warren reporting. now, back to you. >> all right, pat. thank [ no audio ] brrk audio -- [ audio difficulty the, please stand by ] robert bales, guilty to 16 counts of premeditated murder. the veteran appeared before a military judge, just outside of washington, as part of a plea deal to avoid the death penalty. military prosecutors say the 39- year-old left his army base in southern afghanistan lat year. and killed mostly women and children. the judge asked bales what was the reason for killing them? bales replied, sir, as far as why, i've asked that question a min million times since then. there's not a good reason in this world for why i did the horrible things i did. bale's attorney, john henry brown, says his client was suffering from post traumatic stress disorder. >> i think the healing process is going to take sometime. and it's a work in progress. and we're going to have to use experts. ptsd is a very serious problem. and some people think it's just a very bad hair day. >> reporter: brown says in just the past few months, bales has started to remember parts of what happened. >> he knows he can't take back what's been done. but he want the to bring closure as much as possible to this tragedy. >> reporter: a military court will decide in august, whether bales should be eligible for parole, after serving at least 10 years of his life sentence. >> reporter: bigad shaban, wjz eyewitness news. >> reporter: the military justice system is not executed a service member since 1961. hundreds gather today to pay their respects to u.s. searntsz frank lautenberg. dozens of dignitaries were among the mourners at park avenue, including vice president joe biden who gave the eulogy. he was a democrat who fought for smoking bans, gun control, airline safety and transportation. he died monday at the age of 89. firefighters from across the nation gathered for memorial for four firefighters, killed battling a motel fire last week. they were looking for people they thought were trapped when part of the building collapse said. up to 40,000 people were expected to pack reliant stadium for their service. the appearance kidnapping of a u.s. marine in the recent arrest of a mother on drug charges. these cases are raising questions about the safety of americans in mexico. chris lawrence reports. >> reporter: americans flock to mexico for its beaches and bars. but bloody murders have stained the image of all that sun and sand. and some americans have seen their trips turned terrifying. this arizona mom was recently released after a week in jail, after mexican authorities accused her of smuggling drugs. >> i'm innocent. >> reporter: for weeks, authorities have been searching for this young marine, kidnapped while visiting his father. and so-called express kidnappings are on the rise. >> will you be picked up maybe in a pirate taxi, taken off to an atm?
