But first, investigator Mike Hellgren has details about the Early Morning shooting. Mike . Reporter mary, were just a short walk from campus. Neighbors, witnesses describe a chaotic scene. The shooter suffered from some sort of Mental Illness and had suffered from it for approximate a year. Police say his victims had very little warning. And he was heavily armed. Reporter police say 23year old devon maurice greene, an accomplished University Student from the university of maryland was suffering from Mental Illness, before he shot two of his rooment mates and roommates and then himself. It happened at their home. I heard these gun shots. Going pop, pop, pop. They also discovered a bag of weapons to include a baseball bat, a machete, a fullyloaded, semi automatic handgun and ammunition. Reporter green was an undergraduate at Morgan State University in baltimore, before continuing his education in college park. He was, by many accounts, a student with a brilliant mind. Authorities say he lit several fires at the home, waking his roommates, just before 1 00 a. M. Then he pulled a gun from his wasteband. It was a chaosic chaotic scene as the bullets were flying out the window of this suv. One of the bullets went straight through the neighbors window. I know. She had been right there. She had the gun. The surviving victim was able to run away from the home and call a neighbor for help. Detectives have been able to speak with him at some point. And they will continue to do so, once he is conditioned to do that. Reporter the universitys president couldnt say whether the School Received a warning about green. But he said the school ramped up services for those who need help. It is an incredible tragedy. And our hearts go out to his family, his parents, and his loved ones. Reporter the victim who died is 22 years old. His name is steven raine. Hes from silver spring. Police also tell us they responded to the home two times before. Once for burglary. Reporter kai, a lot of people have been coming and going from the family home here all day in rosedale. Folks trying to make sense of this tragedy. Reporter disbelief on golden ring court in rosedale, neighbors shocked to hear the smart kid from this area, shot his college park roommates. Im very sad for them. Theyre a very nice family. Reporter wjz had learned devon green had learned one of nasas top interns. He was interested in robotic sciences. Green recently graduated from Morgan State University in 2012. He was now pursuing his masters at college park. Greens family declined comment to wjz but told Police Critical information. Detectives learned that the shooter had been suffering from a Mental Illness. The family let our detectives know that this suspect had this condition for at least a year and that in the past, he had been prescribed medication for this Mental Illness. Reporter like police, many neighbors here want to know where green got the guns. I saw you here every morning, when you turn on the news. Somebody is getting shot up. Oh, yes. Reporter and now its your neighbor involved in it. Yeah. Its really a shock to me. It really is. Reporter and we can get did get some new information on the source of that gun from state police. They say greene was the registered owner of the 9 millimeter handgun that was found on his possession. He bought that here legally at the store in Baltimore County in april 2012. As for the semi automatic that was found in a bag there at the scene of the crime, we do not have any information as to who that is registered to at this time. Police say former lapd officer turnedfugitive, christopher dorner, has been spotted and has exchanged gunfire with authorities in the Mountain Area of big bear in consult california. We have live pictures for you of the area where Police Believe they have located heavilyarmed christopher dorner. This is the former lapd officer who has been on the run since last week, when he allegedly shot and killed three people, including a police officer. Now, authorities have been searching for the big bear area since his burnedout truck was located there. Big bear is about 100 miles east of los angeles in the mountains. A massive gunfire has been under way during the last hour. There are reports that two officers have been shot and wounded. Kcal reporter carl evans was nearly caught in the crossfire. He recorded this on his cell phone. The Associated Press is reporting dorner broke into a cabin at big bear, then tied up a couple. One of them was able to get away and call police. Dorner threatened warfare against the lapd. He is seeking revenge for being fired back in 2008. Once again, a gun battle under way, in the search for christopher dolan. A tanker truck, carrying gasoline, carries fire in annapolis. Fire Officials Say the 3,000 gallon tanker burned this afternoon in the 7600 block of edgewood road. Firefighters responded. They put out the blaze. The Maryland Department of the environment estimated how much fuel ran into back creek. No injuries have been reported. The cause is under investigation. Thomas matusawitz, police say the 68yearold was the ex fatherinlaw of the one of the women killed. They say he walked into the courthouse yesterday and opened fire. The shooter then exchanged gunfire with courthouse officers and was killed. Police say the exwife and her friend were at the courthouse for Child Support hearing, regarding the shooters son. A teachers assistant in Harford County is charmed with sex with a minor charged with sex with a minor and faces prison time. The victim is one of her students. Wjz is live in Harford County. And the teachers assistant who admits to having sex with him is a 35yearold woman. Reporter these charging documents out of Harford County give police explicit details of the sexual relationship between Amanda Kay Miller and a 15yearold boy at the high school. Charges ing documents charging documents show the relationship started in december of last year. And shows a number of texts being exainched. They subsubsequently charged her with third and fourth degree sex offenses, as well as abuse of a minor. Im very upset about it. Because its trying to teach my kids what is right and wrong. That they have teachers doing this kind of stuff. Reporter students who knew miller said nothing about her seemed to draw concern. Just a nice lady, fun to be around. She got along with the kids just fine. Reporter investigators say miller would take the student home at times and have sex with her in her car, right in his driveway. Wjz asked her about the charges against her. No one answered. Students at north Parker High School remain in disbelief. I just want our school to be safe. On the internet, there are sites dedicated to the breed, known for their intelligence, and escape artist abilities, depicted on you tube. Police say the husky that was killed dug out of its yard and joined another large dog that was also running loose, which was shot at and may have been hit. Reporter weve located the owner of the diseelsed dog. That dog has no prior history with animal control. And were looking into the second dog. They really are a wonderful breed. Reporter anita is a dog breeder. She says huskies take effort. You must work it. If not, its going to get scructive, dig out of your yard and want to run. The carnival triumph has been floating aimlessly since an engine fire sunday. 3800 passengers were left with limited supplies of hot food and working bathrooms. Another carnival ship has since dropped off more supplies for everybody. But passengers say the ride is still very far from comfortable. Theyre keeping us fed pretty well. The worst part is the bathrooms. Theres theres no water. You cant really flush. So everyone is going in little plastic baggies and putting it inside their room. Oh, my goodness.
