wjz from arlington, virginia. >> federal investigators say a pakistani-born man, helped patch a plot to bomb subway stations near the u.s. capital. agents arrested 38-year-old farouq ahmed today. police believe he was helping to plan attacks on d.c. substations. a senior law enforcement official says the month-long investigation was an fbi sting. the white house says the public was never in danger because agents were on top of the case from the beginning. a nine-page criminal indictment, unsealed ahead of ahmed's arraignment today, detailed his trips to busy stops. >> reporter: the indictment concedes that he conducted surveys here at this station. a few days later, he handed off the image to someone he believed was affiliated with al qaeda, in a virginia hotel room. >> he delivered subway diagrams and made suggestions about where explosives should be placed to kill the most people possible. metro riders say learning about the plot makes them nervous. but it's part of the world we live in. >> it's scary. but we know that it's happening. and we are really thankful that people are out there, watching over us. and making sure that they're on top of people like. that. >> reporter: ahmed, a naturalized u.s. citizen, faces up to 50 years in prison, if convicted. >> reporter: in washington, joel brown, wjz eyewitness news. >> and moments ago, the chief of d.c. police transit said that police are addressing the plot. and they are constantly looking for anything out of the usual. >> mass transit is an open system. so we depend on employee training, very educated public work force that utilizes the metro system. emergency preparedness. drills, exercises. and a continued vigilance on the part of the police department to sort of diffuse any type of attempt. >> investigators say ahmed lives in ash burg, virginia. and that the simultaneous attacks were planned for sometime next year. coping with tragedy. for the second time this week, baltimore police say goodbye to one of their own. wjz is live in north baltimore. weijia jiang has details on the farewell to officer thomas portz. >> kai, officer tommy portz leaves behind a wife, three young children, and many close friends. they all gathered together here at the cathedral of mary our queen to bid an emotional farewell. >> this is the third police officer we've had to bury in a month. >> it was part of us. we were part of him. it hurt a lot of us. >> reporter: the pain was almost tangible. shared by hundreds, regardless of if or how they knew 32-year- old officer tommy portz. many across the state waited in the rain to honor him. >> reporter: portintr is the -- portz is the third baltimore officer laid to rest. he was killed last wednesday after his patrol car rear-ended a fire truck. >> he was a hell of a cop and a great friend. >> fred bealefeld delivered the eulogy. the two were good friends and played together on the hockey team. >> i know jess and the girls. i watched those girls be born, you know. and i'm just -- right now, weijia, i'm just thinking about getting through it. that's what i'm really trying to do. >> a lot of sadness. not only with the police department but with the fire department. >> reporter: and that is because officer portz spent a lot of time with the nearby firefighters who all say they remember him as, quote, a teddy bear, who always gave hugs. portz was buried today at the delaney valley cemetery. >> weijia, thank you. 18-year veteran detective brian stevenson was buried monday. officer james fowler, just a few weeks before that. a college track star, fighting for his life, takes a violent turn in west baltimore. denise has more on what happened. >> reporter: doctors say the compton state standout is in critical and unstable condition now. dale dunne was shot in the chest while walking to the grocery store in the mon. comon area. the 24-year-old was reportedly attacked by three people. his friends took him to saint agnes hospital. he was later taken. >> dunne is originally from kingston, scra makah. jamaica. a disgusting attack involving semen and a maryland college student. tonight, police say there could be more victims. wjz is live in greektown. mike hellgren is there and has more on the suspect in custody who lives near greektown. mike? >> reporter: well, kai, the actual attack happened on the montgomery county campus. and the man charged lives just around the corner here. he has been found guilty of indecent exposure in the past. >> police took arizzy ayu into custody. they say while a woman was studying on a campus, he walked past her while master baiting, -- masture beating. she then turned to see his genitalia exposed. and he quickly left the scene. >> ayu is charged with indecent exposure and second-degree assault. police tracked him to his home in baltimore. nope one answer -- no one answered the door there idea. today. they used the surveillance video and his car registration to lead to the arrest. >> the surveillance led us to a vehicle registration that came back to a rental car company that came back to him being the renter of the vehicle, which enabled us to identify who the suspect was. >> reporter: wjz searched court records, revealing ayu pleaded guilty to indecent exposure in 2004. heed a -- he paid a fine in court costs. they say that was linked to the university of maryland, college park. >> oh, very nasty. >> oh, that's really not good. >> yeah. it's disgusting. >> reporter: this case follows the arrest of michael edwards, jr., earlier this year. that was also in montgomery county. police say edwards filled a bottle with semen and sprayed it at women while they shopped. >> reporter: in ayu's case, police say the victim was cooperative in helping solve the crime. and they are still looking to see whether there are other victims after similar reports in that area. report live in southeast baltimore, mike mike hellgren, wjz eyewitness news. >> mike, thank you. police say the suspect is not affiliated with montgomery college. he has a court hearing scheduled for next month. in tonight's school watch report, the clock is ticking for baltimore teachers to renew their working contract. teachers struck down the last proposal. so now there's a new deal on the table. wjz is live. gee barnett has -- gigi barnett has more. >> if they vote for this second proposed contract, they could become one of the highest paid instructors in the state. >> reporter: this is it. a new all contract for city teenager teachers. earlier this month, teachers voted against the proposal in record numbers. they didn't have enough time to review it. >> what i've heard about it doesn't sound like there is enough for me to vote for it. it just sounds like they put a lot of things together that they hadn't really explained to everybody. >> so teachers union president, marietta english went back to the negotiating table. this time, she's visiting schools. holding town meetings. and calling them at home. the new contract would still wipe out the current way teachers receive pay raises. and an increase will be based on student achievement. and how much training a teacher does outside the classroom. she says teachers could track up the pay scale faster than they did before. >> but if you want to earn more. then you can do more. and you push yourself up. >> reporter: and the new contract would also give city torch teachers a -- city teachers a 2% pay raise. as well as a bonus. the last time city leaders saw that was 2 years ago. and english said that the test scores have boosted since then. back to you. >> all right, gigi. thank you. teachers vote on this proposed contract in about two weeks. you could call it a grand slam for local nuns. a small donation could bring in hundreds of thousands of dollars. the sister of a nun left this hoinous wagner baseball card. wagner played for the pittsburgh pirates and one of the five original inductees into the baseball hall of fame. the card is made sometime between 1909 and 1911, and is expected to bring in $150,000 to $200,000 at auction. for more information, log onto the auction through wjz.com. >> i bet the sisters are having some fun with that. for sure. >> i would think so. >> asking a lot about the history of baseball. still ahead. terrorists talking. the one place osama bin laden says he'll target. dramatic exit. the infamous jet blue flight attendant speaks out. it's a neurological condition that affects nearly 1 in 100 kids. autism. and this saturday, there's a way to help support its research and get exercise at the same time. i'm andrea fujii. that story is just ahead on wjz eyewitness news. and storm clouds over maryland. where is the rain head head? not a chance. the democratic congressional campaign committee is responsible for the content of this advertising. all right. we have quiet weather here. but we just, a second ago, had a tornado warning issued for southeast portions of charles county. we'll take a look at radar. temperatures in the 70s down there. even some spots over 80 degrees. you can feel the activity moving pretty much from southwest to northeast. particularly southeastern sections of our region. and southern portions of the area. we're going to go down there and look, across portions of charles county, where the cell has moved. just moving into the bay area. just northwest of the la plata area. over portions of southern maryland. all of this stuff continues to move quickly off to the east/northeast. once again, you folks in southeastern sections, if you can hear me. southeastern sections of charles county and also central saint marys county. that one cell is about 8 miles southwest of wicomico river or near colonial beach area. it is moving to the east around 35 miles an hour. if you're in that area, st. clemens bay. lemon town. you should take shelter. it's possible, a tornado could come out of this particular cell. let's look at the velocity in this, which takes us inside the cell. and we can see whether there is rotation. there is a little rotation right there. as it's moving across virginia. right across the potomac river. so if you're in line there, central and southern portions of charles county, and primarily central portions of st. mary's county. that's where that cell is headed to. so let's take a look at temperatures, conditions around the region. rather quiet around here. in fact, it got up to the mid- 70s. 66, the low so far. average is 66 and 40. records, 82 and 29. that storm system is still way up to the north. but it's trailed this front all the way across the east coast. driving it slowly, but surely. we're still getting these showers, probably getting to our south. this one just coming in from virginia. that's causing the activity down across extreme southern portions of the region. front goes through. things are drying out. dryer and sunny day. beautiful day tomorrow. west winds, 5 to 10 knots. bay temp around 60 degrees. no showers and storms. severe weather across st. mary's and southern charles county. the rest of us, pretty quiet. a nice afternoon. once again, if you're in st. mary's county, around the leonardtown hollywood area. take shelter. that could generate a small tornado in the next 15 to 20 minutes. we're talking st. mary's county. the rest of us, pretty quiet, particularly north and west of the bay. >> but our focus is on that small area. >> there it is, bob. >> let's take a look at it once again. we're looking inside this storm. and you can see that's moving off toward the northeast. at a rather rapid pace. we'll continue to take another look at it real quick. you can see how it's moving from coclone -- colonial beach. and we'll take a look at the actual storm itself. there you see it. and it's headed off to the east/northeast. moving in the general direction. around 40 miles an hour. just north of leonard town, that's the area we're most concerned about. that's in st. mary's county. looks like it's really not going to be affecting much of charles county. this is route 5, by the way, if you're headed down that way. if you're in that area, i advise you to take shelter, at least the next 15 to 20 minutes in portions of st. mary's county. kai? >> are we talking about central portions of st. mary's county, pretty much from leonardtown area, north of pax river. you can see the storm moving across the potomac river, from virginia, from colonial beach, virginia. and the folks in river springs, coltons point, palmers, may be affected by this particular cell. we'll keep tracking it. let's keep looking at it. we'll go into that cell and see if we have any rotation. obviously there has been some. because the weather service usually issues these warnings when they see rotations. there is the actual cell moving right on shore now, across the pot
