developments in the cub hill woman. >> police say that 67-year-old evelyn was murdered by her grandson who then took his own life. he called police. shortly before his 911 call, police also received an anonymous phone call, saying she had been murdered by her grandson. bret hoverberg was later found dead inside his car due to a gunshot wound. >> occupies -- autopsies will be performed on the grandmother and grandson to determine how they died. minutes ago, a bribery trial in the case of a powerful state senator. derek valcourt has more on the ulysses currie trial. >> reporter: defense attorneys said that currie is an honest man who did not accept bribes. and they asked the jury not to convict currie. >> an attorney for 74-year-old prince george's county senator, ulysses currie wasted no time getting to the argument. telling jurors, i represent an innocent man. this entire case is circumstantial. everything in this case hinges on inferences. the inferences, according to prosecutors points to guilt. saying currie uses shoppers. legislation allowing shoppers to transfer liquor licenses, traffic lights near certain stores. and he tried and failed to get millions in benefits for shoppers. all without disclosing that he worked as a paid consultant for the grocery chain, as required by ethics forms. but his attorneys say what he did was legal. and they argue that currie and the shoppers food executives never believed they were doing anything wrong. therefore, they did not have the criminal intent needed to call him guilty. they admit they made mistakes by having his wife filled out his ethics forms, but say his actions did not amount to bribery. >> if convict convicted -- if convicted, currie faces the possibility of 20 years in prison. while moving on tonight, incentive for information. congressman elijah cummings' family is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the murder of his nephew christopher cummings. the 24-year-old student was found dead near his old dominion university apartment in norfolk, virginia in june. anyone with information is urged to call 1-888-lock-u up. defense attorneys trying to convince the jury that conrad murray is responsible for michael jackson's death. >> reporter: the prosecution accuses dr. conrad murray of breaking a sacred trust with michael jackson. >> he broke that relationship. and for that, michael jackson paid with his life. >> reporter: during closing arguments, prosecutor david wal gren said the evidence against dr. murray is overwhelming. he called the cardiologist criminally negligent for causing jackson's death with the overdose of the powerful anesthetic, propofol. >> for michael jackson's children, this case will go on forever because they do not have a father because of the actions of dr. conrad murray. >> reporter: the defense says nothing murray did or did not do was criminal and that it was jackson himself, who self-administered the research suggests, getting more active could help keep cancer away. cancer experts say as many as 49,000 kays of -- cases of breast cancer, and 43,000 cases of colon cancer, every year in the u.s., could be due to a lack of physical activity, and long periods of sitting down. >> sitting is bad for you. and sitting does trigger some of those biological mechanisms that are important in cancer risk. >> reporter: factors like hormone levels, insulin resistance, and inflammation can increase if someone sits too long. and that's a big concern, since only 31% of americans say they get regular physical activity. >> between work, driving, and relaxing at home, some people can spend most of the day sitting. but doctors recommend getting up every hour for at least a minute or two to move 700,000 times on you tube. these are live pictures of south park place in morristown, new jersey. rescuers are making the third attempt to get two men stuck in a lift 75 feet in the air and get them down. the drama is unfolding at the morristown united methodist church, it hit the church's steeple, and became stuck 75 feet in the air. this third effort to get them down involves hoisting the men out of the lift and lowering them to the ground. the men do not appear to be hurt. it looks like it was successful. a man accused of killing a maryland mother and her young son, will be held without bond. >> reporter: curtis lopez made his first court appearance since being extradited from north carolina. he's charged with killing 51- year-old jane mcquain whose body was found inside her montgomery county home. he is also accused in the death of her 11-year-old son william. his body was found in a felt two weeks -- field two weeks ago. prosecutors expect to formally charge lopez with that death this month. >> it is alleged lopez beat the young boy with a baseball bat found near his about -- his body. police fear there may be more victims. young gong gym is facing a number of charges, including sodomy and assault. kim worked at scissors hair salon in ellicott city and is currently being held on $500,000 bail. anyone with information is asked to call police. a frederick woman, facing 400 counts of animal cruelty is seeking to get her animals back. so far, 24 of those cats have died or been euthanized. now, the suspect is filing a petition to have the surviving cats returned to her care. four men accused of planning terror attacks make their first appearance in court in georgia. two are former federal employees. craig bell reports from gainesville. >> reporter: all four men made their first appearance in gainesville. they have accused them of plotting to destroy government buildings in atlanta. two bought material from an undercover agent that they thought was c-4 material. >> and the deadly toxin ricin. they planed to release ricin to cars on the roadway. >> it is extremely deadly. >> reporter: they had a bucket list of government employees, politicians, corporate leaders and members of the media to be taken out. the warrants also revealed that frederick thomas viewed the plot as saving the country and georgia on march 17th, an undercover agent recorded thomas saying, when it comes to the constitution, that means some people gotta die. >> i don't think i could ever condone or understand why somebody would think that hurting other people would, you know, get their message across. >> it reveals the arrest plot was ambitious, before planning to release ricin, saying you take a pound of that, get up wind, in d.c., and get about 20,000 feet in the plane and turn that loose. it covered the whole washington area. >> a bail hearing is scheduled for next week. well, the department of homeland security is asking hotel guests to join the fight against terrorism. starting today, the welcome screens on hotels on tvs across the country will display the message, encouraging people to be on the lookout for suspicious activity. officials at homeland security hope to reach millions of hotel guests each year. a breakthrough in anti- aging. mary has a new look at the effects of a new study and the effect its can have on you and your skin. >> reporter: researchers used a drug on mice that targets old cells that build up and promote aging in nearby tissues. they found older mice saw a remarkable delay in the fat and the type of muscle that causes our skin to wrinkle. the drug didn't reverse the aging that had already occurred but it did prevent further effects. researchers say the latest findings show that these cells do play a role in age-related conditions. further testing is still needed before the drug could be gep -- developed for human use. >> okay. thank you. if you're having battery problems with your new at least 30 minutes to get through that delay. on the inner loop, southwest side, 20 minutes there from southwestern boulevard to security boulevard. that's due to rubber necking for the outer loop accident. and 20 minutes away, on the top side inner loop, from the jones fall expressway and harford road. as far as other accidents go, reisterstown road on warren road. watch for that crash. tapers about a half mile over hanover street. two-vehicle collision. looks like a rear-end-style collision. and looks like this perhaps swerved to avoid the accident. there was a man trapped in the vehicle for a short period of time. he has been extricated. i-95 has two lanes moving through about a half mile north of hanover street. you can expect the delays to extend back to the city-county says she is healthy and experiencing new things every day. dugard was abducted while walking to school when she was 11 and rescued at age 29 in 2009. she was sexually abused and gave birth to her captor's children during that time. dugard has written a book about her experience, it's called "stolen life ." an evaluation of an alleged ring leader in a social security fraud scheme. linda weston and three others were imprisoned for locking victims in a boiler room and they took control of their disability checks. a preliminary hearing is set for december 19th. a sewer line accident kills one man. rescue team is searching for the man's coworker. mary is in the newsroom with lat latest. >> reporter: more than a dozen were on the scene. the two men were unclogging a sewer line when they were reportedly overtaken by fumes. it's not clear whether they checked the air quality before going in. officials are using breathing masks to protect themselves from the gas. the men were contract workers for the north in this case pal -- municipal water district. a fiery crash as a freight train derails in illinois and bursts into flames. it happened in illinois in bartlett. about a dozen cars went off the tracks. at least two caught fire as you see. there's no word how it happened or if anyone was hurt. dozdozens of fire departments were at that scene. every hour, car crashes kill an average of four people on american roads. mark strausman reports for wjz from atlanta. >> traffic crashes really need to be moved to the forefront of american discussion as the public safety health threat that they are. >> reporter: a threat that is both tragic and costly. all toll, an average costs $6 million. everything from medical services to lost earnings. a traffic injury lasts $-- costs $126,000. and almost 33,000 people die every year on america's roads. >> if you took that and compared it to, say, aviation, it would take a small airliner, falling out of the sky, every day for 360 days near to get close to that number. that's clearly unacceptable in of aviation. and it is clearly unacceptable on the highway. >> reporter: new safety technologies would help. electronic stability control, or esc, improves the stability by controlling the brakes. by one estimate, this could save 9600 lives a year. also in development, short- range radar sensors. they warn a collision is imminent and activate air bags and seat restraints. >> we need to be doing something about this. we have become complacent. >> reporter: killers including drunk driving, speed. 35% are texting behind the wheel. >> we know it's effective, tough laws, strict enforcement, strict penalties. and targeted messages and public education campaigns are affected. and we need more of those. >> pushing for a multiyear transportation bill that is focused on safety. a veteran could be sentenced for hanging a flag of america. he has been hanging his flag for holidays and special days of the year. but when he put it out on navy day, his apartment manager gave him an eviction notice. the manager said he is putting notice for any outside display, not just targeting the flag. vets have seen more dog nucases. there -- flu cases. there are 39 and more expected. angel can cubbal reports. >> reporter: the centers for disease control, canine influenza virus can spread by contact with infected dogs or infected items. >> it's an influenza virus. so it's airborne. >> reporter: susan wagy, who has been a vet for almost 20 years says the influenza is an upper respiratory infection. and dogs could expose your pet to dogs that have been affected. >> just like day cares and centers for children, are places where they get upper respiratory infections frequently. >> reporter: the symptols are cough, runny nose and fever. though some may not show signs at all. there is no cure for the h3n8 virus. a vaccine has been approved to treat nicole and her dog timmy. >> i like my dog to socialize. and get along with other dogs and play. i don't want to keep him to myself all day long. he's stuck in an apartment. >> reporter: nicole says she makes sure her dog is in good health and takes him to the vet as soon as
