plea market. the incredible amount of merchandise and a police investigation. >> good evening. thanks for joining us i'm adam may. baltimore police shut down that flea market. more than a dozens vendors are accused of selling fake merchandise. monique griego is at police headquarters. that investigation is still ongoing. >> reporter: police hauled away everything from clothes to electronics. there were truckloads of items. a busy day at the north point plaza flea market when baltimore county police officers swoop in for a raid. >> about nine guys fully raidable gear, looked like s.w.a.t. came running in. >> everybody was running in trying to get out the doors that had stuff. they were trying to run but the cops had the building surrounded. >> police shut down all business at the market as detectives served search warrants on 16 vendors accused of selling fake goods. detectives reportedly made undercover buys leading up to the bust. >> we've been investigating this case for a number of months. we received complaints regarding counterfeit merchandise. >> police combed through the merchandise looking for ripoffs of brands like nike, polo, timber land and ughs. and they saw investigators take away ravens related items. >> cds, dvds, electronics, different types of clothing. >> all the evidence loaded up and hauled away so it can be checked by trademark experts. as for the vendors who have selling stuff legally, today was more than just a hassle. it was money out of their pockets. >> there are normal legit people. >> now we're closed for the rest of the day. and we're caught in a loss here. we ain't making no money. >> no one was arrested today, and no charges have been filed. police say that won't happen until experts have a chance to look at the merchandise. reporting live in towson monique griego wjz eyewitness news. >> the plea market could be open sometime tomorrow. right now fans are celebrating in college park tonight, the terps win a big game against duke. fans had mobbed the streets. they were cheering and climbing up some light poles. unconfirmed reports say two people were arrested for disorderly conduct. a university run bonfire drew tons of people o'celebrate the win. the moment the buzzer sowned fans flue thed the court. it's the first time the terps have won since 2010. a firefighter injured battling a two alarm blaze in howard county. it happened in the 9300 block of indian camp road in columbia. the fire broke out this morning. nine residents of this building have been displaced. one firefighter was treated for minor injuries but is expected to be okay. there's no word on the cause of the fire. baltimore city police plan to resume training at the facility in owings mills. police plan to resume classroom and physical training, but they're putting firearms training on hold. the investigation into that shooting is still underway. six officers have been suspended since it happened. details are still unfolding after the massive man hunt for former lapd officer christopher dorner came to an end. now the actions of the police department are being questioned. carter evans has the latest for wjz. >> authorities are now releasing more details about christopher dorner's final hours. we were caught in the cross fire, a gun battle that lasted nearly an hour. then silence. s.w.a.t. team leader greg hurbert. >> there was no response from the suspect, no movement. and we felt that based upon his behavior he was laying in wait. >> with daylight fading they deployed a powerful form of tear gas. the cabin caught fire, and as the flames grew larger we heard a distinct gunshot coming from the house. >> the information we have right now seems to indicate that the wound that took christopher dorner's life was self-inflicted. >> kevin lacy made it official. dorner killed himself. less clear is whether the fire was deliberately set. >> you indicated on wednesday that you did not intentionally burn that cabin down to get mr. dorner out. audio we recorded there suggests differently. >> i stand by that mark. >> we did not intentionally burn that cabin down. i would suggest to you that those comments were made by somebody away from the tactical team. >> sheriff john mcmahon is also facing questions about the early days of the massive man hunt. >> carter evans reporting. it turned out he was inside a condo less than 100 feet away and was overlooking the sheriff's command post. protesters say they do not support his methods but were protesting against police corruption and brutality. the blade runner has been formally charged with the murder of his girlfriend. oscar pistorius committed premeditated murder when he shot his girlfriend. he broke down in court, shaking uncontrollably as the charges were read. his family, his sister and grandmother along with lawyers all came to visit himment he'll remain in custody until tuesday when a hearing is scheduled. if you have kids in sports, injuries can be a major concern, and some maryland lawmakers were considering requiring better protection for student athletes. but tonight gigi barnett explains why those lawmakers met opposition. >> lacrosse is the official team sport of maryland, but on the field the men wear more gear, mainly helmets to prevent concussions. it's a difference state lawmakers noticed this legislative session and called for changes in a bill that is passed would require women to don head gear too. the bill recently has come under fire. >> the answer to this problem is not as simple as just putting female lacrosse players in men's helmets and letting them go play. >> dr. richard hundredton is the head physician for the women's national lacrosse team. he says the fear of head injuries sparked debate years ago, but there isn't standard head gear on the market rite now that would quad cattily protect women. he says women's lacrosse is much different and safer than the men's version. >> what is going to prevent injuries, head injuries in the women's game is not the same thing that is going to protect and prevent head injuries in the men's game because they're different sports. >> other women's sports like soccer have taken up the issue of head injuries after a series of dangerous hits on the field. but reaction from parents and players is divided. >> i have mixed emotions because they're so used to playing without something on their head. >> i think it could help in a way because most people do get checked in the head and they are out with concussions. >> this week delegates john cardin and dana sign put the bill on hold to do more research: they agree with sports doctors that's what is needed on the lacrosse field is more education, not necessarily equipment to keep female players safe. i'm gigi barnett wjz eyewitness news. >> doctors say the concussion rate for women who play lacrosse is lower than basketball, soccer and softball. we have a warning for travelers. one of downtown baltimore's major arteries is shut down for the entire weekend from tonight until 5 a.m. on monday morning, light street is completely closed from conway to pratt street. they're removing a pedestrian bridge. crews are replacing this one right here. it connects the hyatt garage to harbor place. it's severely corroded and rusted out now gone. kids in baltimore have a new safe place to play. the city begins overhauling its aging recreation centers. >> let the games begin again the the furly recreation center. three years after it was closed it reopens under a new plan. >> it's important from the age of 6 on up. >> these reck centers help children channel responsibility and passion into other parts of their lives. the mayor agrees. >> we've been moving towards a model of high quality recreation and community centers to serve the citizens of baltimore. >> her $19 million plan calls for four new and improved megarecreation centers. four old ones in the city are shutting down and the remaining centers stay open, many spruced up with new operator agreements. >> when the community takes ownership and runs that program, they're more connected with the young people. they know exactly what the young people want. that is what makes these so successful. this is going to be great. we're going to try to duplicate that throughout the city. >> and under this plan that's being implemented, staffing and hours are increasing at most of the reck centers in baltimore. still to come on eyewitness news tonight, massive pileups, check this meteorologist bernadette woods and sports with stan saunders. it's wjz, maryland's news station. it is cloudy and 33 degrees in central maryland. bernadette woods' complete forecast is coming up. it does not include this, snow and strong winds that moved through michigan caused several major pileups. the drivers there dealt with multi-vehicle accidents and freeway closings. the detroit metro area only got an inch of snow but it was a brief whiteout that caused low visibility and slick roads. no serious injuries reported in all of those accidents. a dramatic high speed chase leaves an iowa man dead and his 5-year-old son seriously hurt. it happened when the father drove into a police cruiser rite there caught on tape. luckily the police officer was not in the car. it all started when another officer tried to pull over that wanted father at a gas station. his son was reported missing by his mother subject of a custody battle. tonight there are conflicting reports about the boy's condition, but police say he is recovering in the hospital and alive. new orleans police officers tonight are looking for two women who went missing in the same week, one woman is a new waitress on bourbon street. the other is from iowa, and apparently was searching for a job as a dancer during mardi gras. some say there are similarities, including their age and body type are raising red flags. >> they both had piercings on the right side of their face. there are some in the literature serial killer cases where they choose a certain type of target. >> businesses in the area are telling employees to take extra precautions. police are investigating the disappearances and looking into several leads in both cases. prosecutors are responding to former uva lacrosse player george huguely's request for a trial. he claims he was denied the right to his chosen lawyer and a fair and impartial jury. those are the grounds they say he's petitioning for a new trial. he's serving 20 years in prison for the may 2010 of his ex- girlfriend yeardley love. baltimore county police remain confused over an unidentified body found more than a year ago. that man was found in the waters near middle river. tim williams reports how new technology could possibly solve this mystery. >> this is the emergency that has taken walt -- image that has taken baltimore police a year to create and they don't know the identity. >> we're not sure what happened to him. we don't have any idea who he is. he is someone's family, and every human being deserves the dignity of being buried with a name. >> this image is from a skull reconstruction. he was found in the waters of back river on september 8th, 2011, the location just under the bridge at interstate 695. when officers found the body it was badly decomposed. a witness told police it was not there earlier that day. since then no one has come forward to report him missing. since the body was found in these waters more than a year ago police have used every method they know to identify the body including dna testing. no luck. >> at this point we're expanding our search other states. we're asking that people share the photo. we're hoping that somewhere someone will see this picture and be able to tell us that they may have some clue as to who this person was. >> the victim is a white male, 40 to 60 years old. anyone with information is asked to call baltimore county police. from middle river tim williams wjz eyewitness news. if you can he help identify the man call police at (410)307- 2020. passengers are releasing more shocking images from the days they spent trapped aboard that concern vol cruise ship triumph. this is tent city on the deck of the cruise ship. that's where many of the 4,000 vacationers ended up sleeping. in hallways or lounge chairs. those are snapshots of some of the sanitation problems, pictures showing a woman scooping urine into the shower describe and sewage dripping down the walls on that ship. people in russia are still talking about and cleaning up after that enormous meteor explosion. the fire ball was said to be as strong as 20 hiroshima atomic bombs. it could cost $30 million. nearly 1200 people are injured by shock waves from that explosion. this sounds like a lot of fun, hundreds of people in minnesota are trying to make the biggest lite bright mural ever recorded. it was made out of more than a half a million of those glowing little pegs. it took five days for volunteers just to sort through all the colors, nearly a month to stick all the pieces into the grid. it's attracting people of all ages including some who brought in their own lite bright pegs. >> i had a lite bright. did you have one of those? >> yes, i'm wondering where they're finding that. do they still make light bright. i can see you trying to make weather graphics with it. >> you probably did that when you were a little kid. >> high pressure systems. >> here's a storm, no, we love snow. use the white ones and the blue one. >> there is a little snow at the beaches right now. >> flurries. >> but not a real snowstorm. that's not in the next couple of days for us. this is what we're dealing with at the beach. the rain did change over to snow and the ground has been very warm, for some of the overpasses and grassy surfaces a little accumulation is possible. watch for icy patches if you're headed out tonight into the early morning hours. as we head into tomorrow, a little snow possible out west. that's because as this storm wraps up and moves away it's going to kick into a lake effect event. is this what we see now, the colder air is coming into play, clouds farther west and it's on the edges of the state that we have the winter weather advisories. this is until 4 a.m. this one out west goes into effect at 1 a.m. and continues through tomorrow afternoon as we said for the second part of this storm. now for the rest of us in between, we're going to get those gusty winds. they're really going to pick up out of the northwest, wind gusts over 30 miles per hour during the day. temperature wise we're sitting at 33 in baltimore, a lot of 30s out there. out west it's already 14 degrees in oakland. compared to yesterday at this time we're starting to even out. yesterday we topped out close to 60 degrees. today we only managed a high of 37 degrees. we're back blow average. that's where -- below average and that's where we're going to stay tomorrow and into monday. we have this cold pool of air carved out over the northeastern part of the united states. we have the front that moved through yesterday. there's a new low forming along it. that's moving to the north. it's intensifying as it does. as it passes by chesapeake here actually produced accumulating snow in south carolina and north carolina and it's going to dump a couple of inches in cape cod and parts of new england as it strengthens and moves to the northeast. what we're seeing is just along the beaches. as it pulls away and those gusty northwest winds kick in, that's where we're going to see accumulating snow in the mountains. as we said windy for the rest of us. then the cold air sticks around into monday before another storm moves our way. this one mainly coming in in the form of rain on tuesday, but if it starts monday night, maybe an icy mix initially before changing over into rain. on the water, small craft advisory in effect until sunday night. we will have those gusty winds picking up during the overnight hours. 23 for our low. tomorrow flurries possible at times, coming in on that northwesterly wind. 34 degrees. we'll see sunshine mixed with clouds at times. then the next one comes our way, highs in the 40s with rain on tuesday, and when that gets out of here we cool down once
