near knife and rhode island at 6:40 a.m. the cleanup is still underway. we have live team coverage. roz plater has the impact on the morning commute, but we begin with cheryl o'connor with what happened and how long the cleanup could take. : we are right off rhode island avenue and the heavy equipment was brought in hours ago, trying to up right the railcars. they have made some progress. we know that three different chemicals linked following the derailment this morning. hours have gone by and csx railcars are still off the tracks. >> i thought it was a bomb or something. nobody was injured, but all day people are looking up to get a better look. >> you can see the one crumbled. eryl: csx confirmed the cars derailed this morning. >> hazardous material. l: this person came to check on his grandmother, who lives in the area. three cars had fluids leaking from them, a nonhazardous calcium chloride, ethanol, which they are still trying to re-se al and a chemical used to make soaps and detergentss. -gallonakes a 15,500 tanker, but about half of that had leaked into the rail bed and ground underneath. : now they have to determine what needs to be dug out. the train was going to cumberland, maryland and hamlet, north carolina pol. cames of the air and water up with no issues, but the rails will take a while. work will continue overnight. we don't know how long it will take to make all the repairs, but an update late tonight from csx, they say the ethanol because been stopped. d.c.ve learned from congresswoman eleanor holmes norton that she has asked to meet with csx officials about today's derailment. cheryl conner, abc 7 news. kimberly: thank you, cheryl. ur team coverage continues with roz plater, who has what commuters have to deal with in the morning. it sounds like there will be issues for some folks?
