President trumps maralago resort where hes waking up this morning and preparing to take a big leap back zone. With his Young Administration recently moving from crisis to crisis trump is attempting to regain his footing and reclaim the narrative by going into Campaign Mode. Now, he held a campaignstyle rally at a boeing plant in South Carolina yesterday and later today in Central Florida hes going to hold an Actual Campaign rally. Thats right just four weeks into his presidency were already talking about 2020. This day is being organized by his Reelection Campaign, not by the white house. Already in Campaign Mode. Meanwhile, this morning Vice President mike pence is making his first overseas trip speaking at a security conference in germany and with questions swirling about the trump teams connections to russia pence vowing that the United States will, quote, hold russia accountable. There is a whole lot to cover. We begin with abcs mary bruce traveling with the president in West Palm Beach. Mary, good morning to you. Reporter good morning, well, the president has escaped washington as he tries challenges of his first month in office back in his element talking to voters hitting that economic message that got him elected and always mentioned hes looking ahead just 30 days in and already campaigning for a second term. [ chanting usa ] reporter President Trump is back on the road. Were here today to celebrate American Engineering and manufacturing. Were also here today to celebrate jobs, jobs. Reporter touring a boeing plant in South Carolina touting their new plane. The name says it all, dreamliner. Great name. Reporter just one month after taking office, trumps in Campaign Mode literally. Later today holding his First Campaign rally for the 2020 election. And he is setting high expectations. Ill be in melbourne, florida. And i heard just heard that the crowds are massive. That want to reporter a change in venue for the president this weekend but not a change in tone when it comes to the press. Trump tweeting the Fake News Media is not my enemy. It is the enemy of the American People. It comes after he ripped into reporters earlier this week. Quiet, quiet, quiet. Reporter focusing on the press over policy. The news is fake, its all fake news. This is fake news. The press should be ashamed of themselves. Reporter meanwhile, Vice President pence turns his attention to security. In his first trip overseas pence talking tough as questions mount about the administrations possible ties to russia. The United States will continue to hold russia accountable. Even as we search for new Common Ground which as you know President Trump believes can be found. Reporter hours before, senator john mccain at the same security conference in germany suggesting theres a long road ahead. And many respects this administration is in do. Reporter the president is hoping to change the conversation with these events. This is now the third weekend in a row that he has spent here at his maralago estate, dan and paula. Mary, thank you. Lets bring in amy holmes, a conservative political analyst who works for Rasmussen Reports. Good morning. Good morning. I know you like the conversation on i did. I like the emphasis. You schooled me before so everybody knows. Lets start with todays rally. Remarkable as we said hes holding a Campaign Rally organized by his 2020 Reelection Campaign just a month in. Why is he doing this. Because were covering it and its his way to reach the American People through the media. He doesnt have to bring the camera. Were bringing the camera. Were going to be broadcasting it. If you turn on cable news im sure it will be full of donald trump delivering his message and as he said in his thursday press conference he said im making my case to the American People and the press get to be seems to be this battle brewing between the press andp. I want to talk about that tweet yesterday, he called the media, quote, the enemy of the American People. Do you think this is a blatant undermining of the media and freedom of the press, the First Amendment md . Those are two very separate questions. I do think that it is a tactic on the part of the president to undermine the press and blunt their impact on his administration, all of the negative stories coming out many of which i would say i think are a little half baked. A lot of insinuation, light on fact, very heavy on accusation and donald trump is saying to the American People dont believe everything you read. And you guess what, at Rasmussen Reports we found out a majority of americans say they dont trust the media and think the media is biased against donald trump. Your second question, is this an attack on the First Amendment and four estate . An attack on the truth, well, thats up to us toporting it. Let me ask you about something thats going to be interesting to watch unfold, congress is on break. Members going back to their home districts and many holding town halls, a lot of left wing activists are vowing to show up and make noise. Not dissimilar to the tea party. Are we seeing the beginning of a tea party on the left and is likely to be powerful. I think we are and one of the interests reports i saw is that the Progressive Left is thinking about challenging democrats in primaries. Remember, thats what the tea party did to republicans. Fielded their own candidates to put republican feet to the fire. You know, this energy that were seeing the postelection, postinauguration coming from the Progressive Left with all the marches and rallies, at first it looked very diffuse like what is the cause. Now its starting to gain focus and if they can field these candidates to challenge democratsou new tea party in the making. Perhaps for many years to come. Amy holmes from rasmussen, thanks. Come back. Why want to move to our big story, Southern California is being slammed about i a major storm. Look at this airport in Santa Barbara. Thats an airport where flooding has completely shut down the runway. Up to 9 inches of water just one of the many startling images were seeing and rob is in Pacific Palisades with more. The powerful storm also eroding freeways leaving this fire truck dangling off the edge of interstate 15. The firefighters inside escaping before the roadway gave out. Around los angeles, other roadways overwhelmed by the floodwaters. Forcing drivers to abandon their cars. 14a commute from hell. Reporter this mountainside giving way threatening homes below. There goes the trees. Oh, the whole reporter huge interstates of interstate 138 turning into a muddy swamp. Struggling to free stranded the driver in this car unable to get out before the floodwaters rushed in. A driver in front of them had to be rescued. Another man electrocuted by downed power lines. Damaging winds ripping the metal off this trailer. Massive trees crushing cars. This man barely escaping in time. In Huntington Beach this man fighting against the heavy winds and rain trying to walk along the pier. During the height of the storm 78,000 customers lost power in Los Angeles County alone. Fortunately the power is on here and they are putting it to good use. You can see still working to pull those vehicles out. Incredibly, the woman who was rescued from this hole is expected to be okay. She was taken to a hospital and was last listed in fair condition. Harrowing. On friday indonesian officials weighing in on the International Murder mystery reporting one suspect is believed to be the victim of a deadly deception. The whole story doesnt really work for me. Reporter according to the woman, an indonesian living in malaysia told police she thought she was part of a hidden camera tv show spraying kim jongnam along with several others in the face for laughs. With no knowledge of the possible dangerous chemicals inside. South korea, however, is calling kim jongnams death an assassination by north korean agents.
