It all started before 10 00 a. M. When the suspect, a 32yearold canadian names Michael Zehaf ki bow, a petty criminal who converted to islam, walked up to the war memorial and shot and killed nathan cirillo, guarding the memorial. His head was halve covered with a scarf. He raised his hands in triumph. Bystanders trying to resuscitate him, but he later died. And gunfire in the Parliament Building nearby. This video catches the chaos. Law makers and reporters scrambling for cover. Barricading themselves inside of rooms. The Prime Minister, Stephen Harper whisked to safety. Reporter cormic mcsweeny was on the phone with his editor when the chaos erupted. I dont know. Theres a bunch a bunch of gun shots. A single guy came in with a shotgun. There were yes, yes, put me on air right now. Reporter the rampage only ending when a sergeant at arms, kevin vickers, shot and killed him. Vickers role was largely ceremonial. As Stephen Harper reminded canadians, this is the second terror attack in three days targeting canadian soldiers. Fellow canadaens, in the days to come, we will learn about the terrorist and any accomplices he had. But this weeks events are a grim reminder that canada is not immune to the types of terrorist attacks we have seen elsewhere around the world. Eporter it was just monday that another young canada with ties to isis and had his passport revoked was shot dead in quebec after he ran down two canadian soldiers in uniform, killing one of them. Its clearly linked to a terrorist ideology. Reporter so many canadians have gone to join isis, they have created their own recruitment videos with iconic canadian scenes. For islam, i was like any other regular canadian, i watched hockey. Reporter they are seen burning pass ports and carrying out brutal murders. And the internet has been filled with propaganda to kill canadas and allies of the United States using whatever is available. Said one leader, kill him in any manner or way, whatever it may be. And in the latest case, the mother of the suspected shooter is reported to be a Senior Canadian immigration official. We dont know about direct ties between this shooter and isis. But this is the kind of attack our Law Enforcement officials are worried about. Theres a warning this week from the u. S. Department of homeland security. This morning the air bag recall is more urgent. With toyota telling nearly a quarter million of its customers that if it runs out of replacement bags, it will temporarily disable your Passenger Air bag until a new one is installed. If that happens, a warning to keep riders out of the passenger seat. And now another 3 million cars, moving the total up to nearly 8 million vehicles, that urgently need defective air bags replaced. The numbers keep changing, and the federal Safety Agency is telling consumers to use the website so see if the car is affected. But its not working. This is the same agency that didnt get the gm ignition switch right. Now they dont know the story on the takada air bags enough to protect the public. Its terrible. Reporter they were recalled last year, but ten car makers and the government are saying that the problem is worse than suspected. Its the inflater, the cannister, exploding so fast it can send metal shards flying. Safety advocates say four deaths are linked to bad air bags. I think theyre hoping that the jurys going buy this story this time. But the heart of this case still comes down to the question of, how did he get drunk . He says it was in this man cave after the incident course. Prosecutors are saying no, no, you had 12 to 13 drinks before you got into your car. Were also seeing, hes admitted that he has a speech impediment. We have seen that on the stand. Why is that such an important point . Because the defense wants these jurors to believe that the first witness who saw him after the crash said he seemed like he was slurring his words, it wasnt slurring. But it was stammering, it was a speech impediment. And youre seeing that on the stand. One of the key things for the jurors, do they believe it . The husband accused of killing his wife after laces her drink with cyanide, and police say he researched ways to cover it up. Reporter it is a highprofile case rocking the medical community. A neuroscientist accused of killing his wife, allegedly killing her with cyanide. The trial of dr. Robert verante, the universities of pittsburgh neurosnooins charged in the death of his wife, neurologist dr. Autumn klein. Seen here in a video produced bit discovery children. Its important to women with epilep epilepsy. Reporter 65yearold ferante gave 43 klein an energy drink laced with cyanide, saying it would help her get pregnant. Only the right shoulder is getting by. That has caused a stack of coming out of frederick. 66 east is slowly recovering from the early vehicle fire. Almost 1. 5 hours to get from manassas to fairfax. 95 do dale city north is easing. There was an incident that was moved to the right shoulder. Outside the window, the trees are whipping back and forth. The wind will subside a little bit tonight but it is going to be a gusty day.
