Reporter last week chunks of concrete flew off the nearly milelong main spillway creating a 200footlong, 30footdeep hole. This has never happened before and forced dam managers to hold off on releasing water even as it reaches its lips and officials trying a never before used emergency spillway. The efforts to lower the lake level by utilizing the spillway to reduce the water has been effective in now theres no more water going over the emergency spillway. That is expected to keep growing until it reaches bedrock. You can see that really the full power of the state of california has been made available in support of butte county and surrounding counties during this situation.
