A small victory trying to turn the tide in the heroin epidemic. In alexandria, two drug rings were busted. The investigation covering three more counties and even crossing state lines at times. New at 4 00, Jeff Goldberg has a look at the tip of the iceberg. Jeff it was called operation purple rain. Authorities say its a big win in the fought against the heroin epidemic in the d. C. This joint investigation constitutes a new way of trafficking organizations. Jeff 11 suspects from virginia and maryland were arrested in the bust on the morning of saturday march 11. The take was significant. Ten guns. 400 grams of heroin. 330 grams of cocaine. 19 grams of p. C. P. Seven pounds of marijuana. 18,000 cash. This didnt come from a few drug deals on a street corner. The men and women were organized part of a complex network. The Alexandria Police and the state police started the investigation in march of last year following a string of heroin doses across the city of alexandria. The suspects ten men and one woman range in age from 31 to 63 years old. Authorities on both sides of the river now hope with them now in jail, lives will be saved. Operation purple rain has been a success. Heroin dealers and the traffickers taken off street. Jeff authorities hope it will make a dent in the heroin problem in d. C. You may remember the stories we reported on last week. Three Gun Store Burglaries in northern virginia. One of them in chantilly. Two in Spotsylvania County. Authorities announced three men have been arrested for the crimes. They made the first appearance today in federal court. 23yearold preston holmes. 23yearold matthew jones. 19yearold daniel quarrels had been charged in the burglary of three gun store. 50 west armory in chantilly where the summits allegedly got away with 35 firearms. And then the two stores in Spotsylvania Co tactical and s. S. G. Tactical in fredericksburg. In the two cases in Spotsylvania County, the authorities did not the suspects, rather, did not get away with any firearms.
