He came to talk to noble, which is the black Law Enforcement executive organization. His message was that they need to push for improved Police Community relations. He formedded an organization to do that called peacekeepers. Simmons was a luncheon speaker and he told Law Enforcement executives and their families in his organization, peacekeepers now has branches in 25 cities. The idea is to establish dialogue. He said one important thing for communities is to as he put it stop demonizing the police. We have to support changes that make the Community Feel Better as much as we may not want to because we know almost like a lynch mob. Its uncomfortable enforcement in our own community. I know its tough. If we want more people of color to join we cant demonize the police. [applause] sam simmons said most recently he has worked with the mayor of los angeles and the police chief there. He said that dialogue leads to trust. And improved relations. And the midatlantic and the maryland state Highway Administration studied the 64mile road from 2009 to 2015. Its a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to cars on the road. Here is the good news. Traffic decreased by up to 25,000 cars on critical stretches of i495. The busiest segment saw more traffic and increase of 30,000 cars. That is areas such as National Harbor and the i270 spur. People who use the six decade old roadway say no matter what the study says the roadway continues to be a source of frustration. Its miserable. Even after rush hour time its kind of bad. Parkway this afternoon closed between 410 and the beltway. Right now traffic is stopped from the split merge at d. C. 295 and 50. We are also seeing southbound delays this afternoon. Heavy from 197 to the beltway. For folks in the district we have report 06 a closure for a gas main repair. North capital street in both directions closed between d street and massachusetts avenue. It happened on the outer loop at i270 just after noon today. No one was hurt but all lanes were closed for about 20 minutes. That after a crane fell from the new span being built to replace the crumbling old one. Crane didnt hit any cars but three people were hurt when cars swerved to avoid it.
