Baltimore the first Police Officer to go on trial in freddie grays death took the stand today. Maryland bureau chief brad bell joining us live with what the officer had to say. Brad . Brad well, a few minutes ago the court took a break and the testimony is going to start again. Officer William Porter will be back up. He has been there all day long. Now we should tell you that officer porter is not one of those who took part in the initial arrest of freddie gray. Not one of those bicycle officers wearing yellow that you can see in the video shoving mr. Gray in the back of the van. Porters roll in this was to be called afterwards to check on gray, the prisoner in the back of the van. He is accused of not responding to grays request for medical help and not picking them up and seat belting them in the chair. So porter on the stand today said a number of things. One, in 150 arrests he has never seen a prisoner seat belted. They say the officer say its dangerous for them to do so because prisons can grab at their guns. With regard to the request for medical help, porter acknowledges that gray made it but porter said he never saw any outward sign of injuries in two checks. It wasnt until they got to the Police Station the socalled sixth stop of the van they realize that gray was in distress. This trial is getting close to wrapping up. There are concerns in this town about what will happen. Will there be rioting as f people dont like the verdict . So today, the mayor and the Police Commissioner held a press conference to deliver essentially a stern message. We need everyone in our city to respect the judicial process.
