We begin with new developments in the search for malaysian flight 370. The search area is shifted about 700 miles closer to australia. The weather has cleared and the search under way again today. This mornings New York Times reports, the similar ator, reported by the fbi, reveals no new clues. That adds to the mystery as Abcs David Kerley reports. Reporter high above the rough indian ocean. New satellite images from thailand. Planes were grounded by high weather but a new sub hunter p8 is headed to australia. In the past week we have seen nearly a half dozen countries provide images of what they suspect is potential debris and all of those photos are in the same basic area. So why isnt a vessel in the water able to recover even one piece of debris. Because this area dubbed the roaring 40s sees waves and swells up to a hundred feet high. As we saw in this maritime simulator, a piece of debris can quickly be lost from sight in heavy seas. It can be a case of now you see it, now you dont. But if they do find debris, investigators can start piecing together clues. We see that wing itself, leading edge, is blown open. In arizona they teach investigators to look for cracks, signs of fire, which can indicate how a plane crashed and how it impacted. Even small pieces falling off the main wreckage may help solve the mystery. What i find behind are smaller sections, smaller fragments. Which actually, we just call them cookie crumbs, usually. You can think of debris on the ocean as cookie crumbs, too. A trail allowing experts to track back the currents to the most likely spot of impact. So much to learn. Once some wreckage is found. Teams are methodically going through debris looking for victims. Specially trained dogs are there but six days after the mountain came down their biggest victory may be just to find a body of one of the missing to give families some closure. Things kind of get somber out there. It gets really quiet for a few minutes. You can almost hear a pin drop out there. Officials say they will release a new and higher death toll later this morning. But dozens of other families will still be waiting for some hint of what happened to their missing loved ones. Attorneys for Oscar Pistorius opened their defense at his murder trial today. They have said that pistorius will testify in his own defense and he could be the First Defense witness. Any testimony from pistorius opens him up to crossexamination by the prosecution. They have accused pistorius of murdering his girlfriend, reeva steenkamp. The defense claims he shot her by mistake.
