hall this noon with a look at a city in crisis. john? john: the city is slowly trying to get back to normal this afternoon. we can show you city hall here downtown. definitely an eerie scene even though no violence, no unrest today. but you can see all of the military presence. city hall still looking like a military base at this hour. you can still see a number of national guardsmen standing guard armed with high powered rifles and humvees lined up and they have the fencing, the metal fencing surrounding city hall. and choppers flying up above. some 3,000 national guardsmen and police from different jurisdictions have been spread out across the city for the past couple of days. and about 30 d.c. police officers have been called up to assist here at city hall. now, just down the street at the state's attorney's office two blocks away religious leaders from churches from around the state of maryland are gathering for a rally. they are gathering at noon and they will march, many of them telling us that they will march here to city hall. now, they are calling for an end to all of the injustices and to the violence that they have seen in the last couple of weeks here in baltimore. of course, a massive seniors center development belonging to the southern baptist church here in baltimore was torched on monday night. and they are hoping to really assist that congregation. we're going to quickly talk to a gentleman who spent a lot of time here in downtown baltimore. this is sharif. sharif, you have a food truck, you park usually in front of city hall. to see what it looks like today, with all the military presence and just, you know kind of frayed nerves this afternoon, what are your thoughts? >> not what we're used to. it's something different. everybody knows what's going on. it's stopped the flow of traffic for a lot of american -- merchants in the area and people work in the area. hopefully everything will get resolved first and we can be back to normal work hours and things of that nature. john: tell me how you describe what you've witnessed in the last couple of days in your city. >> unbelievable. never saw anything like this. when the 1968 riots come i wasn't even born. so to see something of this magnitude, it was just like, you know unbelievable. i couldn't believe we performed like that in our town and hopefully things will get better as time goes on and some of the issues can be addressed and, you know, we can move forward. john: thank you so much. moments ago, i heard a gentleman say that he hasn't seen anything like this here in downtown baltimore since 1968. so the city trying to finally get back to some normalcy but it's going to take a little time. reporting live in baltimore, john gonzalez, abc 7 news. jummy: because. unrest over the last few days, the baltimore orioles will play the chicago white sox today at an empty camden yards. news chopper 7 live over camden yards right now. today's game is believed to be the first with no fans in major league history. it starts at 2:00. this is video right here of maryland governor larry hogan. he just made a visit to camden yards and spoke with members of the community nearby. happening right now, the baltimore symphony orchestra putting on a free concert in support of the baltimore community. it started just a few minutes ago outside of the meyer house and the orchestra said "everybody could use a little music in our lives right about now." and this noon, we are hearing from the baltimore mother -- that mother, that is who is recorded hitting her 16-year-old son after she saw him throwing objects at baltimore police. video of toya graham was taken monday as the riots broke out in the city. here's that video right there. it went viral almost immediately. she showed up to the mall to pick up her son and lost it when she saw a rock in his hand. >> that's my only son and at the end of the day, i don't want him to be a freddie gray. he said when i seen you my instinct was to run. you know i am a no tolerant mother. he knew he was in trouble. jummy: she wanted his son to be safe and know his actions were unacceptable. make sure you stay the house oversight committee is holding a hearing today called "flying under the radar" securing d.c. airspace. the hearing focuses on the failures that allowed a gyrocopter to enter restricted airspace, then land on the u.s. capitol lawn earlier this month. the heads of the f.a.a., secret service and u.s. capitol police are testifying. >> the incident on april 15th reminds us the openness and accessibility of the capitol can at times be our greatest challenge. however, every incident allows us to refine our capabilities, enhance our training and be better prepared for every eventuality. jummy: some admit the gyrocopter was detected but not sifted out from clutter to distinguish it from other objects. two men this noon accused of robbing banks in d.c. maryland and virginia are in court. thomas george and dewitt hall appeared for a status hearing. they are accused of robbing nine banks since january. getting away with thousands of dollars. according to the f.b.i., the robbers would burst into banks with guns drawn. their identities hidden by sunglasses, hats and fake beerdz. d.n.a. tests will now be conducted on clothes found in the suspect's car. he's due back in court at the end of may. a father in spotsylvania county is facing felony child abuse charges this noon for burning his infant daughter. police say 24-year-old william schmule dipped his 9-month-old girl in scalding hot water. baby was rushed to the emergency room with extensive burns. authorities say he was charged with injuring his girlfriend's 4-month-old son in 2013. mounting frustration in nepal this noon as aid delivery has slowed to a crawl. people faced off with police in kathmandu. about 200 people blocked traffic as they complained about not getting any aid. right now the death toll from the earthquake in nepal has climbed to more than 5,000 and that could double. but today, a bit of good news to tell you about. a man who survived the avalanche on mt. everest is now back home in new jersey. >> when the avalanche hit, everybody took cover. once it went down, we looked at friend's tent and made sure my tent was intact. my friend's tent was intact. jummy: four americans were killed by that avalanche on mt. everest and several others in nepal are still reported missing. we want to head to a news conference happening, though right now in baltimore. this is the baltimore police commissioner. let's listen in. >> so much has transpired and happened over the past few days and faith leaders and people of good will all across this city of baltimore and all across this state and all across the region actually want to focus on the need to have answers brought to bear in this case. we're here today because the baltimore state's attorney ran on an explicit campaign to address cases just as this and so we're here today not to protest marilyn mosby but to really help and encourage marilyn mosby do the job for which the residents for the city of baltimore elected her for last year. we want justice in this case. and the public is very much interested in not allowing distractions and criminal and activity that certainly not of us can condone as it's taken place the past few days. distract us from the public's need for answers in this case. the public wants justice and the public desires and wants that justice right now. i want to thank reverend gabriel who is the president of the national latino evangelical coalition. again, he came down with several pastors in that coalition to show solidarity between black and brown, faith leaders and the african-american and latino community about this pernicious problem that is plaguing our society. reporter: the report comes out friday, what needs to happen? >> the public needs to get a sense of the timetable. i've been here in the city of baltimore not just on this case but in cases in the past and the public is never given a clear sense of when they're going to get answers. they're being told that an refusings is being done and we want to make sure that we get justice but also that the investigation is solid but we want to know when the community can expectances. we're here today to continue to shed a spotlight to let the elected officials know that we're not going away and it's very critical and important for them to reassure the public. jummy: this is the baltimore police commissioner there speaking live in baltimore. we'll continue to keep an eye on this press conference and bring you any updates from it as soon as we get them. today, though, is the day to get outside. sunny and warm conditions out there right now. chief meterologyorologist doug hill is here with a look at how long the sun will last. hi there. doug: hi jummy. beautiful out there. 72 degrees right now at reagan national airport, bright sunshine. share a couple of graphics and tell you our story as we head through the day. temperatures will rise a few more degrees from the current level of 72. it's 70 in fredricksburg and in gaithersburg right now. 66 degrees in annapolis. and through the afternoon, we'll see a steady rise and probably settle somewhere near 75 degrees for the afternoon high with plenty of sunshine. clouds roll in late tonight and then we'll be watching to the south for a developing system that will bring in clouds late tonight and bring in areas of rain to the area tomorrow and even into early on friday. so here's our story. tomorrow not sunny, mid 70's. cloudy with scattered showers especially by afternoon and evening. highs in the upper 60's. we'll look for rain and cloudy skies, cooler temperatures fray. weekend is looking very promising. let's get started and give you a look outside laurel at laurel high school annex. 71 degrees. absolutely beautiful morning. few fair weather clouds but i'm telling you what, we'll wind up on more sunshine than anything else this time of day. temperatures will climb a little bit more. the pollen count is in and i will tell you this it is in the high range for trees and according to the microbiologists that we get the reports from, oak trees number one offender. still a little bit. so when you go outside, you know, just take your time if you have any sort of seasonal allergies, especially with oak trees but the good news tomorrow even though it's going to be rainy and cooler it will keep the pollen out of the air for a couple of days. 72 at reagan national now. 71 in baltimore. we're seeing the rise in temperatures in the lower 70's. it will be a slow process. kind of self-limiting. maybe 75 for a high. areas that are lagging behind like quantico and luray and frederick will catch up during the afternoon hours with plenty of sunshine. we look ahead. we know this. we have high pressure overhead. that's why we have the clear skies with a few puffy clouds. there are a couple of systems down to the south and southwest that will make a move to the north. we don't see some upper level energy in the atmosphere. we'll see cloudy skies, cooler temperatures, rain especially in the afternoon. periods of rain will be possible continuing tomorrow night into the day on friday. now, friday morning, we think all of this will kind of congeal into one major system off shore. key is it will be off shore and move out. it will take a while to get out of here. by the weekend, things are looking much brighter indeed. plenty of clouds and areas breaking out of rain to the west. there's that storm system consolidating off shore. this takes us 5:00 tomorrow afternoon and evening. periods of rain some of it will back build in from the atlantic ocean. key is by friday morning, everything should be out of here with only the chance of an isolated shower with cloudy skies and cooler temperatures through friday afternoon and the weekend looks better. the rain potential for this by friday, not much. especially to the west where the heaviest rain will be at the highest elevations. next seven days 60% chance that we'll deal with some light rain late tomorrow afternoon and evening. as we -- did i break the camera? just put it on my charge card. late tomorrow afternoon and into friday, improving late friday look how cool it will be friday compared to the day and weekend. partly sunny. 70 on saturday. mid 70's with sunshine on sunday. upper 70's to near 80's on monday. jummy: find that will bring him back home, alexandria native chip esten who plays deacon claiborne on the show. thanks so much for joining us. tell us a little bit about what we'll see tonight. chip: well it's actually kind of a coincidence because along with the journey that deacon has been on right now and hoping to find a liver, he's a transplant list and you get a little bit of a flashback of a sense of where he grew up and where he came from in tonight's episode which is a lot of fun to get to do. it's also a coincidence. i'm about to go back to where i came from which is of course alexandria, virginia and the d.c. area we're with the nashville tour and we'll be playing constitutional hall in a couple of days. so it's a good confluence of the two things at once. jummy: absolutely? what is it like -- i know you were home last year i believe it was. what's it like for you to come back home and perform in your hometown? chip: it's really more than i ever could have asked for. there's something about that area that i love so much. i have a lot of friends there in high school i went to t.c. williams. i'm actually a titan through and through and growing up i loved it so dearly. it was surprising to me that we had a group of friends that loved our time there. but we just all ended up to go what we wanted. i had to go do what i wanted elsewhere to go out to los angeles. now, i'm in nashville with my family. and i think one of the reasons that i love it so much is it has that virginia feeling to me. so getting back to see my mom my sisters, my brother, my whole aunts and uncles family there frenldz friends. it's just the best. it's a dream come true. jummy: we look forward to it may 3rd at constitution hall. thank you so much. we'll be tuning into "nashville" tonight. coming up here on abls 7 news at noon, though, an amazing crash caught on camera. no one was hurt though. we have details next. jummy: the u.s. marine corps war memorial is about to get a facelift. a major gift will help people restore the iwo jima memorial in arlington. the national park foundation made the announcement this morning. and this noon we have a miracle on a houston highway to tell you about. one family so thankful to be alive. after this crash that witnesses call bone chilling. dispatchers watched traffic cameras and saw that pickup right there swerving. they called the tow truck operator who had pulled over to help with the flat tire and that operator had just seconds to act. he pushed the family into their vehicle and braced for impact. astonishingly, everyone walked away without a scratch. wow! high school teacher in washington state is speaking exclusively to abc news after taking down an armed student. civics teacher brady olson is being called a hero for tackling a 16-year-old student who fired two shots into the air. it happened yesterday in north thurston high school located in lacy just south of seattle. >> i felt i had to protect kids and i felt like i had to protect my friends. what i saw was a threat and i had to stop the threat. jummy: olson lost his wedding ring in the scuffle. something he didn't notice until the incident was all over. no one was hurt and the shooter was arrested and the shooter's motive, though, remains unclear at this time. sunny and beautiful out there today. doug is back with the look at how long it will all last in the last jummy: daredevil performer nik wallenda successfully completed the walk across the rim of the 400 foot orlando eye observation wheel in florida. take a look at this video right here. he's there in the bright green shirt. the 36-year-old's walk atop the city's newest attraction while it was spinning only took a few minutes. this was wallenda's first public stunt without the use of a balancing pole. that wheel is set to open to the public next month. i'm sure most people who ride it will be inside one of those air conditioned gondolas. would you do it? doug: i have a hard time even putting a ladder up on the roof let alone that. well done. our weather is perfect like it is in florida at this hour. bright sunshine and a little bit milder here. only in the lower 70's and keep the sunshine all day long. 72 at last check at reagan national. 71 at baltimore. 68 degrees at andrews and manassas and also at washington dulles. as we head through the afternoon, we'll enjoy plenty of sunshine. just a few fair weather clouds from big high pressure overhead. as that moves out of the picture tonight, that will open the door to the advance of some cloudiness. there's also a couple of areas of moisture to deal with and upper level energy. net result is we have a chance of rain. that will develop during the day tomorrow. especially tomorrow afternoon. even though you see most of the heavy stuff down here moving that way, it looks like over the next 48 hours, most of the steadier rain will be west of the washington metro area. so for today there are no concerns weatherwise. it will be dry it will be warm. pollen is the only issue out there right now. as we head to the middle 70's with a bit of a breeze out of the south at four to eight miles per hour very, very pleasant day and we get through the night and hang on to clear skies for a bit. clouds will move in while we're sleeping. tomorrow, much cooler. scattered showers developing especially in the afternoon. southeasterly winds and high of 67 degrees. for the next seven days here's what we have. temperatures, 67 tomorrow with a 60% chance of rain developing. 40% chance on friday. here and there showers. certainly not a rainy day and then we'll brighten it up turn partly sunny on saturday. highs to 70 degrees on sunday. looks like we'll hit the mid 70's with sunshine. monday near 80 degrees and then the next chance of rain won't come our way until sometime on tuesday. even that's at 30%. for once doesn't happen often, usually the timing works out we get sunshine thursday and friday and rain on
