what was found on his home. >> he was back in court this morning, facing a judge on charges. during the hearing that happened here, the prosecution alleged that during their investigation they found photos on best's phone and they told the court this morning that they plan to file federal chilled pornography charges. speaking to the investigator about these allegations that's what she said they are, allegations that they plan to fight. heeps currently facing sex abuse charges. a woman said best, a police officer and the pastor abused her. the the police officer was off duty during the incidents. a second victim claims best sexually assaulted her when she was 17 years old. court documents allege the incidents took place inside the police officer office. >> we look forward to >> one thing they can do is pay attention to air quality. there are groups like clean air partners who provide e-mail alerts about when the air quality is poor, using the e.p.a. criteria, orange, red, purpose -- purple days. they can change their behavior on those days, limiting activity using air conditioning more to try to protect themselves from poor air qualities. >> that's for suffers. what about those around them? there's got to be -- in fact, most of us are more aware than we ever have been. what about the people around the suffers? what should they know? >> people around suffers could make sure they don't expose them to tobacco smoke. a lot of asthma suffers live with smokers. anybody with smoker habits should change their clothes before coming back inside and they should not handle young chirne who had breathing problems because the smoke deloings their hair and their clothes. >> i guess similar to pollen. quickly change your clothes wash your hair. similar issues. >> yes. >> you said think of children. we think of them often with this type of situation. are they the ones who could suffer the most because they're still developing? >> yes. kids are the one we worry about. their breathing passages can be small, because they're small. it affects them more than it would as an adult. as we grow our breathing improves. we tend not to have attacks as often. children are vulnerable. they breathe more rapidly. >> this is a crazy question but i have to ask. we see more incidents of asthma kicking in. i have to wovender is it because we know more about it now or because it's actually happening more now? doug: -- alison: the head of the d.c. 911 system is resigning. stan ford has the latest development. stan: mayor bowser would not say today whether she asked for jennifer grain to resign, only that she had resigned yesterday. the dz director of the office of unified communication was appointed by the former mayor vincent gray. she and her office came under intense scrutiny over the handling of the smoke and fire at the l'enfant metro plaza. it took six minutes to dispatch trucks to the scene and critics flatly said the d.c. 911 was broke. she was asked why her agency was not meeting the 92nd standard. her first response and the committee's reaction, today. >> we shoot for that, but we don't make it and it looks like we are deficient when in fact we are at the scene probably better than our counterparts in this area. >> visitors deserve a more efficient and timely emergency response. stan: she was the decorated commander before she took on the task at the emergency management office and has been replaced by chris geld are, currently the director of homeland security and emergency management for d.c.. reporting from northwest washington, sam cole, abc seven news. leon: investigation into a hazmat incident is under way. alison: material in montgomery county has being handled by a safety team. they came to bureau drive in gaithersburg this morning. a bomb squad and special containment unit were all called in, the building was evacuated as were caution. leon: we are seeing staggering new numbers about the health of babies in the desk -- the district. d.c. is the most dangerous city in the developed world to be born. jeanette reyes has more on this study and what is being done to change those things. leon: -- jeanette: the numbers in the report are staggering. experts are calling the tail -- calling at the tale of two cities. babies in the poorest neighborhoods are 10 times more likely to die before their first birthday than those in wealthier neighborhoods. overall 6.8 babies die for every live birth in the district making the u.s. capitol the most dangerous city in the developed world to be born. this is according to the new study from the organization save the children. progress has been made, the district has cut infant mortality rate in half in the past 10 years but experts say that there is still a lot of work to do. >> there has been a long-standing issue in the district of columbia with higher rates of infant mortality among the black population is a post of the white population, historically higher than the national average overall. >> it really means babies and mothers. we need to do something. at children's national we see that we cannot do this type of thing alone. it takes partnership. >> the goal today was to acknowledge the significant role the poverty played in all of this and to coordinate efforts throughout the district to address this problem. alison: the montgomery county council is considering a tax on electronic cigarettes. under a proposed bill of tax would be imposed on every distributor who supplies these the dealers in the county. the bill would allow the council to change the tax rate each year . the council has scheduled a public hearing for tonight in rockville. leon: there is a warning tonight about selfies. what should parents and children be aware of? [laughter] leon: i am not even going to touch that one. i'm going to keep this job for another week. leon: -- alison: good, thank you. leon: coming up next, a study of women's beards. i just lost my job. frightening results that have nothing to do with a giant yellow salad? something recovered from random samples of men's facial hair? alison: first, raising awareness about the dangers of treadmills after a prominent business leaders death. leon: a memorial service today for dave goldberg, ceo of the company survey monkey, husband of facebook executive sheryl sandberg. the 47-year-old tech veteran was vacationing in mexico when he died on friday. mexican officials say that he died from accidental blunt force trauma while exercising on a treadmill. investigators said that he appeared to have lost his grip on the railing of the equipment fell backward and hit his head. now, the strategy involving dave goldberg is a reminder of how dangerous treadmills can be. alison: diane spoke to dr. about treadmill injuries and how often they really happen. >> mexican officials say that david goldberg, the husband of sheryl sandberg was shot -- found near a treadmill after he apparently slipped on the machine suffered a blow to the back of his head while exercising in a gym. the consumer product safety commission estimates that in 2014 there were nearly 63,000 injuries in the er related to exercise equipment. of that number they say that there were 24,400 injuries from treadmills. not surprising to the director of training at cinergy health and fitness in arlington. check issue is that people need to realize that it is a moving piece of the apparatus and you still need to practice caution again, regardless of how many times you been on it. >> they say that as for deaths associated with treadmills there were on average three per year from 2003 to 2012. >> it is very unusual to die from a treadmill injury. >> typical injuries include bracing the fall. >> i have seen several patients with knee injuries from sliding off the treadmill. you can have a head injury where you fall forward. >> dr. silverman said that between the buttons on machine, the television and your cell phone there is enough distraction that puts you at risk of falling which is why he stresses that you focus on the task at hand. >> you just need to be careful on your own treadmill. >> some therapists have real warnings to parents and young adults about the dangers of selfies. that's right. we all know the popular pictures are fun for everybody, but people like kim kardashian president obama, they have all taken selfies, however selfies can lead to addiction, they say, can cause problems of self-esteem and even lead to depression. the counselor explains that it goes beyond liking on social media. >> there is a dopamine reward that happens. like anything that we do when we are rewarded for something that we like doing, we get a dopamine hit in the back of our brains and it says i like this, let's do more of it. >> let -- that could lead to risk your photos for more likes. she advises parents to monitor what their teens are posting. well, you could call this a hair-raising study. turns out that the beards of some men are as dirty as a toilet? yuck. leon: let's leave it up to the experts on twitter. others found random samples in men's facial hair. >> this story at the least may give you a new appreciation for a clean shaven face. i handful of brave men of allowed us to swap their beards. lean in to see what, if anything, is growing in them. >> here we go. >> what we found blue the mind of even this microbiologist. >> i'm usually not that surprised. i was surprised by this. >> all of the beards had a lot of bacteria, normal stuff that you would find on most services, beards proving that they trap and hold quite a bit. some were comparable to? yes. >> that's the can of thing you would find in poop. >> i have never seen a petri dish with these colors. quite they are lovely, aren't they? it's because it never had them until now. these other the kinds of things that you find in feces. >> this is a collection of 30. they say that this activity will not make you sick. >> but it certainly shows a degree of uncleanliness that would be somewhat disturbing. leon: ok, we just made the day of the clean-shaven doug hill over here. it's recommended that men give their beards a thorough scrubbing. maybe a bleaching. or at least wash your hands and try to keep them away from your face is much as possible. doug: soft as a babies [laughter] alison: that's a lot of information. let's talk about the weather shall we? perfect transition.
