Reporter ben afleck is apologizing and says hes embarrassed for asking the pbs program finding your roots to edit out the discovery that one of his ancestors had owned slaves. The oscar winner posting on facebook i regret my initial thoughts that the issue of slavery not be included in the story. We deserve neither credit nor blame for our ancestors. It certainly seems ben afleck was remorseful about the action he took. Whether the program did the right thing is a whole other question. According to private emails between the host and sony head
Michael Linton<\/a> that were stolen during novembers hacking scandal, sony reportedly told gates to honor aflecks request and the show aired in october without the reference. Pretty interesting character. Reporter gates defended the episode earlier this week telling abc news his story wasnt as interesting about the other stories about slave owners that we did use. Pbs is launching an internal review. That decision may have violated their standards. And despite the controversy, the future caped crusader says hes proud to have participated in the show. Ben afleck says it is up to finding your roots to decide which ancestors to include. But he admits to lobbying the host the same way he lobbied directors about which takes to use in his films. If you owe more in delinquent loans, taxes or child support, than your refund amount youll say doesnt that stink . Thats because the i. R. S.
