Doug for this evening and early tonight, the same kind of stuff. Cool, dark air with temperatures mostly in the 40s right now. Severe thunderstorm and severe thunderstorm watch. Look at the temperatures starting to change. 45 in baltimore and gaithersburg. 50 at reagan national. 46 at manassas. But the farther west you go the warmer it gets because theres a warm front to the west that will be pushing into our area late tonight and tomorrow and that will change everything. Pretty much a clean sweep despite the clouds right now on storm scan but there are the bigger storms to the west developing along this warm front. Well see showers tonight. Parts of our area might get a rumble of thunder later tonight and tomorrow the whole area breaks into a big change with windy and breezy and much warmer weather. We can approach 80 degrees tomorrow and may have to deal with heavy to possibly severe thunderstorms. But tonight, just more of the same stuff. Cloudy and cool. Alison d. C. Bureau chief sam ford is outside court now with new information. Sam . Sam yes, alison. Well police on friday arrested Jamyra Gallmon and then yesterday, arrested her roommate. 19yearold Dominique Johnson, for the conspiracy with the robbery of David Messerschmitt, the man who you mentioned was killed. And in this case, this afternoon, they let Dominique Johnson go on her own recognizance with that ankle bracelet from here at the courthouse. The murder took place at the Donovan Hotel on 14th street northwest. Police say gallmon seen in Surveillance Video stabbed 30yearold attorney David Messerschmitt seven times in a motel room. Alison leon, there is some unwanted free publicity for some Maryland Businesses today. The comptroller has released what hes calling the list of marylands biggest tax cheats. Kevin lewis is here with a look at some of the local companies that made this list. Kevin . Kevin hi there alison. One might imagine a handful of tax attorneys received some pretty frantic phone calls today. This is the official rundown of what maryland is calling the top 20 tax cheats. The grand total of money owed here, more than 6 million. Number one on this list is a Company Called c. T. F. Associates inc. It works out of this Gaithersburg Office suite. Maryland says the company that offers custodial services owes nearly 1. 2 million in back taxes. Today, on the telephone, the owner told me he tried setting up a payment plan years ago but said the states rates were just too high. And then theres rockville based onick dental labs that owes 178,000 in back taxes. We spoke with the president seen here on the website. He confessed hes short on cash but pointed the finger at certain clients who he claims owe him around 40 grand combined. Were communicating with these folks on repeated cases and most of them are heavily lawyered up and theyre in their bunkers saying hell no were not going to pay and they thumb their nose at us. Kevin maryland says this program is wildly successful it expects to collect 2 3 of the money owed here. Alison lets check on traffic at this hour. Jamie sullivan is here with the details. Hi there. Jamie couple of different problems. First, i want to look at the crash. If you live in bowie, this is closed off at annapolis road at high bridge road. We have the accident involving the mail truck. Police are still on scene working to get this reopened. Right now, its blocked off. Take a live look outside. This morning, we have a really wet commute. So far were ok this afternoon. For you leaving 395, were ok. This is 66 taking a look for you outside of the beltway near nutley street not bad. As we move on talk about the beltway. On the inner loop American Legion bridge, were seeing some of that volume working your way a little bit closer towards maryland. No problems for you getting closer towards clara barton. As we move back to our maps, most of the camera shots, lets talk now. We have the slow traffic like i said top side of the beltway getting a little bit closer to bethesda on the inner loop. As we move to 95 our traffic a little bit congested for you working your way out of the city. Right now, going to take you about 25 minutes southbound on 95. Basically to get from the springfield interchange to across the occoquan. Thats a look at traffic. Back to you. Leon thanks jamie. Were keeping an eye on a popular attraction in the district. Maybe in the eyes of some of the most popular ones. Famous Cherry Blossoms there set to hit peak bloom this weekend. Huge crowds expected to check out the sights. Along with the events taking place with the festival as well. President of the festival says early mornings are a good time to get out there and beat the crowds around the tidal basin and national mall. Alison uhhuh. This weekend, its going to be perfect for that isnt it . Doug it will be in the upper 60s at least with sunshine and a little breezy on saturday. Beautiful. Big question is if we get thunderstorms tomorrow and gusty winds and some small hail, well hopefully we get the storms and they dont come over the tidal basin. Thats the concern. Im not overly concerned about it right now. Keep an eye as a possibility and well let you know as things form up in the afternoon. But for now, same pattern as yesterday. Its cloudy. Its damp. Its cool. But theres no rain out there right now as we look live from the weather bug camera at national harbor. Were looking up to the northnorthwest across the potomac into alexandria from this vantage point. See the wilson bridge there and stay cloudy like this for several more hours with very chilly temperatures. In fact, later tonight, we expect temperatures actually to rise. You can see that happening already. Were at 50 at reagan national. 45 in baltimore. 48 at dulles. 52 in winchester but cross over to petersburg and its 65 degrees and already 75 degrees in elkins West Virginia not that far away. Whats going to happen is the warm air thats been held back to the west for several days because of these cool winds coming off the atlantic ocean, well, that system is going to move out and then the warm air will start to move in. All kinds of things will start happening pretty quickly over the next 24 hours. So the cooler air gets displaced later tonight. In fact temperatures may start rising a little bit overnight but this is really a really interesting graphic. Take a look. Its 85 degrees in charleston West Virginia. Only 50 degrees in washington so theres just a wedge of cold air. Tonight, the warm front moves in and the warmer temperatures and tomorrow, it really gets to be an active weather day. What will happen is well get a surge of winds out of the southsouthwest will drive the warm front through and it will get some showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon with a cold front. But if we get enough sunshine tomorrow, and thats quite possible along the gusty winds and warm temperatures, not only could the sunshine drive us into the 80s for the afternoon, when this cold front arrives in the afternoon instead of getting this garden variety thunderstorms, theres a chance we could have severe thunderstorms. Now, at the moment the Storm Prediction Center has us under a slight risk of Severe Weather. Whether or not we have the garden variety everyday storms or severe storms with hail its possible. Thats going to be depending on how much sun we have and how long a period that sunshine is. No way to flush that out now. Something were aware of and definitely keep you on top of that. In the meantime forecast this evening, same old, same old. Dark cloudy the warm front starts to make a move. Temperatures will hold steady or rise overnight with some rain possible at that point. And then as we get through the day tomorrow after some morning rain, the winds pick up and the temperatures rise to the 70s to near 80. 90 chance well have showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and again possible some could be severe. Look at the weekend, looks beautiful. A little bit weekend. Delightful sunday and monday. Next chance of showers tuesday. Back to pleasant weather by the end of the week. Alison not too bad. Its the first time that tax filers will be asked for information about health insurance. Alison Rebecca Jarvis has more on the change to the tax code that will affect millions of people. Rebecca according to the i. R. S. , for most americans the Affordable Care act will be a nonissue. 3 out of 4 taxpayers will simply check a box on their return that indicates theyve got Health Coverage most likely through their employer. But for millions of others it wont be quite so simple. If youve purchased government backed health care and received a tax credit to help pay for it youre going to have to reconcile that and it will likely break one of two ways. A payment due or a refund back. If youre uninsured, this year youre going to pay a penalty. 95 or 1 of your household income, whichever is highest. The average penalty has been coming out at about 177 this year. Most important thing to remember about penalties is theyre going up for 2015 and theyre going to go up again in 2016. Rebecca there are however, about 30 exemptions that can help lower or completely eliminate any penalties. They generally fall into one of three categories. Personal. Financial. And medical. And filers can combine them. The number one exemption if you were not otherwise required to file a tax return for 2014 youre not required to pay the penalty. The initial hurricane outlook announced this morning at the National Tropical weather conference at South Padre Island texas and right now, lauren lee is there to explain live how this season seems to be shaping up. And lauren south padre knows all too well the impact a busy Hurricane Season can have on that area. Definitely. And you know the experts cant ever tell us exactly where hurricane is going to form or where its going to hit. But what they are predicting is that this year could be another slow season. Hurricane experts from all over the country are at the National Tropical weather conference to find out what could be brewing in the gulf and the atlantic in only a matter of weeks. 2015 is looking to be pretty quiet right now. Lauren he issued the First Official hurricane outlook today. The last major hurricane hit the u. S. Back in 2005 which is the longest period on record. Weve had two quiet seasons in a row. We tended to be in an active period of storms since 1995. Lauren the average seen has 12 named storms with six becoming hurricanes and three becoming a major hurricane. Which is a category three or higher. However, this year the experts are predicting seven named storms with three becoming hurricanes and one developing into a major hurricane. And the reason behind it a moderate to strong el nino. We think that combined with a cooler Tropical Atlantic means less fuel for the storms trying to form. Lauren with more People Living along the coast nationwide, even a small storm can cause significant damage. Meteorologists warn dont let your guard down because the numbers are looking low. One of the biggest producers of damage and loss of life in tropical systems may come as a surprise to people. Its the inland effects of usually a tropical storm. Not a hard fast hurricane.
