What went through your mind when you saw that . She wasnt that. You know what im saying . The drugs wasnt her. She did drugs, but drugs didnt do her. She knew how to handle herself. It only made me, you know, love and wanna protect her more. People said to me the one thing that they heard over and over again, that you were the one that led whitney to heavy drug use, that you were the one. It wasnt me that started her. I take my part, and i take it hard for me even being a part of it, but we all have our own minds, and some of us are stronger than others. Reporter that was their lives in private. Reporter a curse, because money for drugs was never a problem for the couple. In his book, bobby brown admits to abusing cocaine, marijuana and heroin, in addition to alcohol. When was the drug use at its height with you and whitney . The last few years of our marriage, it was terrible. Both of us, you know, trying to be clean, or one of us trying to be clean, and the other one dont wanna be clean. Its a big struggle. Reporter bobby credits his time behind bars with helping him with his sobriety. I had to be put ija order to, you know, get the monkey off my back. Reporter are you clean . Im clean from narcotics, yes. I havent done narcotics in 10, 12 years. Alcohol has been a problem. I go back often to reboot, but [ bleep ], thats life. Everybody drinks. Sometimes i drink. What is the one thing that is said about you that is not true that just you want to put an end to . A woman beater, theyve said that, you know, ive harmed whitney, that i was, you know, violent towards her. Your ex said you spit on her. Mm, that never happened. He spit on me. And my daughter was coming down the stairs and she saw that. That was pretty intense. It was just lies. Ive never been a violent man towards a woman ever. But you did admit in the book that you did strike her once. Yes, i did. Me at the time trying to maintain a sobriety, the person that youre in a relationship is not goin along with it. It was rough. Reporter accordi t 2003 incident report, police found a bruise on Whitney Houstons cheek and a cut lip, but she refused to press charges, and the next day whitney was singing a natural woman reporter and standing by bobbys side. Were still together. Reporter but it wouldnt last long. He says whitney just wouldnt stop using, and that in 2006, thats what ultimately led to the end of their 14 years of marriage. Only people that failed her were the houstons because those are the people that was supposed to make sure she was okay. Like even pat houston doing that tv show, and like knowing my sisters not in the right correct mind state, does anybody realize thats malicious . She was being manipulated. Reporter pat houston, whitneys manager and sisterinlaw, declined to comment. But the brown family believed Bobbi Kristina was being manipulated by another person, nick gordon. Never really knew nick. I met him twice. Neither times did i get a good feeling about him. Reporter gordon was rumored to be whitneys adopted son. Bobbi kristina called him her brother. After whitneys death, the couple claimed to be much more. Im married, and were fine. Were really, really very happy. He is my backbone. Reporter there have been no legal documents to prove that the couple ever married. But the other man in her life, her father, says Bobbi Kristina reached out to him in 2014 for an emotional reunion on fathers day. You said that you you hadnt seen each other in a while because you were a bit estranged. And that you all hugged each other when you saw each other in the restaurant and that you it was kind of like old times. That was a special day. Hi. You guys look so happy. Reporter bobby says things were going so well that Bobbi Kristina decided to move to los angeles to be closer to him, but that move would never happen. A 21yearold female in the bathtub face down. Pd is en route. Reporter on january 31st, 2015, just two days, he says, before his daughter was to head to l. A. , she was found lifeless in a bathtub at her georgia home. She was found unresponsive. She was rushed to the hospital yesterday. Painfully reminiscent of her mothers death. Reporter reports label Bobbi Kristinas accident a mystery, but bobby had his susp it was not a mystery to me. I know exactly what happened to my daughter. The same thing that happened to my daughter is what happened to whitney. Theres only one person that was around both occasions. You wont say his name. Nick gordon is who youre referring to. I wont say his name. Reporter for six months, while Bobbi Kristina lay in a coma, reports surfaced of the browns and the houstons fighting over her care and control of her financial estate. When bobby spoke at a concert saying her condition had improved my babys awake. Reporter his motives were questioned. You announced at the concert, my baby girl is awake. Was she . She was definitely following me when i walked around the room, when i talked to her. For me, to me thats awake and Getting Better to me. Reporter sadly, Bobbi Kristina passed away on july 26th, 2015. The hardest thing i had to do in my life was tell my daughter to let go. I dont wish that on my worst enemy. That is the worst pain in the world. Reporter her official cause of death was lobar pneumonia due to drowning and a toxic cocktail of drugs in her system. She was buried alongside her mother. I just didnt feel like she was there anymore. Just felt like someone was something, something was always in the way like pulling her away. I hate to say it but two days, if i had those two days back, id have went and got her instead of waiting for her to come to me. I wouldve went and got her if i knew. What two days are you referring to . The two days before what happened to my daughter. She was to come out here to los angeles with me. If i could get those two days back, my daughter would be here. All i want is those two days back. Reporter a father, grieving for his daughter, putting his faith in the legal system to get justice for his baby girl. Ill let the d. A. Do what he has to do. Reporter no criminal charges have been filed, but bobby has joined his daughters estate in filing a 10 million wrongful death civil suit against nick gordon. In november the judge found gordon liable by default and ordered him to pay approximately 36 million to Bobbi Kristina estate. We reached out gordons attorneys they declined to comment. When youre living with somebody who has fought so many addictions and has come so far and then you see there is still Something Holding them back, and there is still something weighing them down, and there is still something that is not allowing them to be their best, you just want to help them and support them any way you can. So im learning, obviously, with this process how to be supportive, how not to enable in any possible way but dont judge. Yeah, the judging is definitely a new way for me. So its like, dont you just get that you dont do that . Its not that easy. Its a disease, and you have to learn how to handle that.
