rob haswell a large low moves slowly off to the east and weaken today allowing us to slowly dry up but we will still see a few morning showers and snow showers. drizzle could linger into the afternoon. as high pressure builds into our region, we continue to dry but stay mostly cloudy for friday. a bit more sun is likely on saturday with the high over us. a new low moves in for sunday with a chance for rain and snow. temperatures slowly return to the low 40s early next week. traffic map = major delays yellow on traffic map = some delays green on traffic map = no delays for the first time in sixteen years --- a statewide recount election is set to get underway this morning here in wisconsin. county clerks... election officials and volunteers... say they're prepared. we have team coverage - angelica duria tracking allegations that the recount is illegal. but first... let's start with deandra corinthios... who's live on milwaukee's south side...from the city's election commission warehouse. good morning! all of the ballots for milwaukee county have been moved to this location... they're under lock and key...and guarded...until 9 am...when the recount will begin. transported from the milwaukee county courthouse to the election commission warehouse. the recount effort in milwaukee county involves more than 440-thousand ballots all together. the final decision will be made this morning by the board of canvassers, the county election commission recommends the recount be done by machine. 14 counties will use optical scanners for the recount...including waukesha and sheboygan counties 48 counties will recount the vote by 10 will use both - like walworth county. clerks will be keeping track of their costs - like overtime, mileage and covering temporary workers. in our area, costs range from 36- thousand in sheboygan county... to more than a half million in milwaukee county. for milwaukee county... were not anticipating there will be a wide variance in the vote totals. i dont think were going to see a change in the outcome of the winner of the election in wisconsin. be certified and completed by december 12th. former green party candidate jill stein's campaign will foot the bill. reporting live in milwaukee dc fox6 news. a wisconsin conservative group claims the recount is illegal. angelica's following this in the newsroom. the president of the wisconsin says the stein campaign must claim there is a reason a mistake did occur... and that it's not about whether a mistake could have occurred. 'if there is any real world consequence of it is it might put at risk our ability to have our votes counted in the electoral college because the recount wont get done on time... i hope it doesnt happen.' rick esenburg says if this recount interferes with the casting of wisconsin's electoral votes ---the group plans to get invl details. officials in madison and milwaukee had a lot to say about the recount. visit fox6 now dot com or the fox6 news app-- the story will be on our home page. we're following breaking news this morning out of tacoma, washington. a standoff is over.... and a suspected gunman is dead. that gunman is accused in the fatal shooting of a police officer. overnight --- emotional video shows a procession for the fallen 45-year-old officer was shot multiple times while responding to a domestic violence call yesterday. the officer was rushed to the hospital for surgery ---- but didn't survive. "our officer was pronounced dead at the hospital. we all will take our time when it's appropriate, to grieve and to share our thoughts and feelings about our friend." the last time an officer was killed in tacoma was in 1997 dead...and four people are in custody. and we've now learned this isn't the first time one of them has been accused of child abuse that led to death. a source tells fox 6 the 7-year-old boy suffered from malnutrition and was abused. we are told the two women arrested met in prison. one of the women was locked up for her role in a separate child abuse case. in 2003, the suspect was convicted of child neglect complaint, 1-year-old bryan alston was found dead inside the suspect's home. now, thirteen years later that woman is accused in another horrific case. a source tells fox 6--there were other children inside the home with the deceased 7-year-old. a 9-year-old was also abused and is being treated at the hospital. we are told neither of the women accused are the mothers to the abused boys. one of the men responsible for the shooting death of 5-year-old laylah petersen is expected sentenced today. carl guilty on all four charges he faced. laylah petersen was sitting on her grandfather's lap in 2014, when bullets pierced through the wall killing her. investigators say, barrett and two other men were looking to kill a man acquitted of murdering one the men's family members. they fired into the wrong house. arlis gordon and paul farr have already pleaded guilty for their roles. barrett's sentencing is set for 8:15 this morning. also in court today... the man milwaukee police officer. 23-year-old "dabreon jefferson" has now been charged with one count of attempted first degree intentional homicide and one count of burglary.prosecuto rs say an officer confronted him as he tried to break into a home near 26th and ruby. gunshots were exchanged -- but nobody was actually struck. his preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8-30 this morning. still to come on wake up --- new parking regulations go into effect today in milwaukee --- what you need to know coming up. and the domes are reopening today --- why you'll be able to get into the milwaukee landmark for free. and going crazy for christmas --- where you'll find special scented toilet paper --- perfect for the holidays. and brian kramp is here this morning --- he's live at discovery world. the average age of a homeless person is 9 years old. my dream is to help kids living on the streets with education. charles what's up man? -whoa! how can we help? -ah man! wait, is that a basketball player? yes! -wow! my heart's about to jump out my chest man. charles you ought to be proud man. i'm just extremely grateful they were here giving them some encouragement- that's something that these kids are going to remember for a lifetime. did you see his big old feet? look. the suspected gunman was shot and killed by police standoff. two children were then rescued from the home unharmed. investigators say multiple weapons have been found inside the house. the officer has not been identified... we do know he was 45-years old and was a 17-year veteran of the tacoma police force. we will continue to update you as we learn more. wisconsins statewide presidential recount begins at 9 this morning. the ballots are boxed up...and have been under tight security all night... deandra corinthios is live from the election commission warehouse on milwaukee county is preparing for a recount of more than 440 thousand ballots... this can be done by hand but will likely be done with the use of optical scanners ...which the clerk says will speed up the process... the recount results for the whole state will have to be certified and completed by december 12th. a judge denied former green party presidential candidate jill steins request to force a state hand to process the recount by hand:... including ozaukee, jefferson and kenosha counties. 14 will use optical scanners... like milwaukee, waukesha and sheboygan. 10 will use both - like walworth county. the ballots for what role volunteers are playing in the election recount. reporting live in milwaukee dc fox6 news. the stein campaign will not be ruling allowing county use voti. but former green party presidential candidate jill stein is still urging clerks to do a hand count. the lead elections administrator called it "good news" that stein had dropped her legal challenge because it will give clerks certainty. elections administrators say that some clerks are miffed that the recount comes at the request of green party candidate jill stein, who got just one percent of the vote. while stein is dropping her legal challenge here... she has formally requested a full hand recount of the pres well. later today -- a rally will be held outside the wells fargo bank downtown -- protesting the dakota access pipeline. this is video from a similar protest held last month. the demonstrators are critical of the bank's investment in the nearly 2- thousand mile long oil pipeline. then -- at 5 pm the group will march to the federal court house and demand president obama and the army corps of engineers withdraw their eviction order for the camp.. protesters fill the street overnight in charlotte, north cleared in connection to a deadly shooting. angelica is here with a look across america. a north carolina prosecutor says the officer who fatally shot keith lamont scott will not face charges, calling the shooting justified. the decision closes a two-month investigation. officer brentley vinson shot and killed scott in september. the district attorney says the officer acted lawfully...adding that a gun was found on the scene. he also said at least three officers reported seeing scott holding a gun before he was shot...and officer felt he was in imminent danger before firing his weapon. officer vinson's conduct is still being investigated. meanwhile -- protests did break out in the wake of the news. four people were arrested last night...after police say the protesters refused to get out of the street. the demonstrators remained mostly peaceful though. the second inmate who escaped from a jail in san jose last week is back in custody. santa clara sheriff's deputies last night. he eventually was arrested by police. laron campbell was taken in taken into custody tuesday. his sister was also arrested...police say she was trying to harbor him. chavez and campbell escaped with two other prisoners last wednesday by cutting through the bars of a second- story window and then rappelling to the ground on a bedsheet rope. the two other inmates were found right away. two hit shows on
