A 35yearold woman is now charged with homicide after severely beating her mother. Police say vicenta manriquez assaulted her mother shelby manriquez on august 14th at a home near 16th and lincoln. Injuries yesterday. The daughter was charged with reckless injury. But since her mother has now died, that charge has been upgraded to reckless homicide. Manriquez could face up to 60 years in prison. A massive explosion rocked Cape Canaveral during a test launch this morning. An unmanned falconnine spacex rocket exploded at its launch pad at the space launch complex. Lets go live now outside the Police Administration building in downtown milwaukee. Recorded its deadliest month in august and in years. That is disturbing. It is caused us to examine our statistics more closely kids we knew we had an extraordinary deadly month here in in august of this year, we had 24 homicides. That is the most homicides in 25 years. Its the most homicides since Jeffrey Dahmers back in 1991. As the same token, in august we seized 211 guns criminal suspects on the streets of walkie. As recorded in the new york times, and look at the numbers here in milwaukee according to our data. According to the times, milwaukee had chicago had 90 homicides in august. Worked total of 471 year to date. During that period of time, milwaukee has had 24 homicides t and a total of 93 for the first eight months. One we analyze these numbers we look at the number of crimes per hundred thousand of population. As we know the population of chicago is significantly higher than milwaukees. But any rate, their homicide rate for the first eight months of this year is 17. 5. But in the month of august, the chicago homicide rate was 3. 3 per 100,000. Milwaukees was four homicides per 100,000. The reason i bring these statistics to your attention, is to also reference the fact interns of gun seizures, milwaukee is a firearm rich environment. We look at the gun seizures in the reported times for the first seven months of this year and chicagos pretty recorded of 5,000 armor firearms from its streets during the same period time, we cease 1500. We have a lot of work Going Forward for the Police Department and the community but are most vocal in the criticisms of the Police Department to one some win some of their energy and their concerns the high quality of firearms and the significant danger that they face trying to confront the serious probl the Mayors Office that is added the component to our own intervention efforts and emphasizing community engagement. What i need are sanctions that are predictable and that are close to the time of defense and people want to apply a model to crime and causation what can we do with the young people. Luckily do what can we do about trauma if there is no significant sanction there is no lesson learned. And the victims are entire communities. The biggest deterrent to Economic Development in disadvantaged neighborhoods or fear of crime. The biggest daunti opportunity is crimes of homicidal violence. That is the core problem and that core problem is driven by our repeat offenders. That is so we need to focus on. Those are the ones that have to fill the blunt of blood of criminal sanction.
