milwaukee unrest. a live look at a gathering near the bp gas station on sherman and burleigh.. it was just one of the casualties of last night's violence sparked by an officer involved shooting. we'll have more from there in a moment - but first - a break down of just some what happened last night. 4 officers were hurt. all have arrested. they all had prior criminal records. right now - 150 police officers trained in crowd control are on duty - so are 100 milwaukee county sheriff's deputies.. there are also 125 national guard members - they're in place to help tonight if needed. the mayor says he's prepared to enact a curfew if necessary. we have team coverage of the milwaukee unrest .. let's start with theo keith downtown at the police administration building. governor to law enforcement leaders say they are preparing like there will be a second night of disturbances tonight. while hoping the preparations wont be needed. unrest overnight in milwaukee left six north side businesses burned. eight police vehicles damaged or destroyed by bricks, bullets, and fire. and a community in fear. last night was unlike anything i have seen in my adult life in this city :56 i hope i never see it again :58 after a request from milwaukee county sheriff david clarke, governor scott walker has activated 125 members of the national guard to milwaukee. our intention is that they are not coming over to be immediately on the ground or on the streets, but that they would be available at this site if a request was made :39 at separate news conferences sunday, clarke and milwaukee police chief ed flynn clarke said they each h request. i can't have the city burning down while we're out of resources and still trying to mobilize :29 this is insurance. that's all it is. this is insurance :31 mayor tom barrett tried to calm the community by justifying the police shooting that happened hours before the unrest. the officer who fatally shot 23 year old sylville smith was wearing a body camera. the video is with state investigators, but barrett says he saw a photo lifted armed. that still photo demonstrates without question that he had a gun in his hand :00 and i want our community to know that :03 but he said it wouldn't be appropriate to make the video public sunday. again, thats up to the state doj. in a statement, attorney general brad schimel said investigators would work quickly, thoroughly an he did not say anything about when will see the video or a full airing of facts. some say they will only believe video proof, not what the police are saying. live, theo keith, fox6 news. brad thank theo dozens gathering tonight at the scene of just one of the fires set last night - sylville smith's time .. and milwaukee police say the 23 year old had a lengthy arrest record. our a.j. bayatpour is live with this part of the story. tonight, weve learned that smith was a father. meanwhile smiths father says he feels somewhat responsible for what happened to his son. as the sun rises on sherman park sunday, volunteers clean up the debris from saturdays riot. among them, rochel says she recalls a martin luther king march from her childhood amid unrest in chicago. its sad to see this is still going on. as neighbors discuss the previous night, patrick smith arrives at the scene. his son, 23-year-old sylville smith, is the suspect shot dead saturday, sparking the violent outbursts. you playing a part in their fault cause you know theres a reason, dont give into their hands, dont be running out and getting guns, dont be shooting each other and wait on them to shoot yall cause thats all theyre doing. smith says he takes some responsibility for his sons death. theyre looking at their things. i just got out of jail probably two months ago but ive been going back-and-forth in jail and they see these things so id like to apologize to my kids because this is the role model they look up to. smith joins city officials in calling for cooler heads on sunday. stay away from this area. lets calm things down. we are going to have an opportunity through the investigation to find out what happened. right now, the city is officer who shot smith, saying threats have been made against him. police say the officer has three years of experience - all with m-p-d. chief flynn confirms the officer is african-american himself. back at sherman park, moore says it feels like the late 60s all over again...with one clear need. its sad to see it again. but i understand the anger and the oppression, its just handling it. we just need leaders to show us how to handle leaves behind a son and a daughter. court records show smith was charged last year with recklessly endangering safety and witness intimidation. however, those charges were both dropped. two years ago, he pleaded guilty to illegally carrying a concealed weapon - "there were just a tremendous number of accidents as a result of people who ended up basically texting and driving or talking and driving." state representative frederick kessler sponsored legislation that will soon go into effect: starting texting, navigating--or pretty much anything else--on a cell phone while they're in a construction work area. "you're placing yourself in great danger and you're placing workers and other drivers in substantial danger." you can use the phone to report an emergency. hands-free phone use is also allowed. to get drivers moving in the right direction, expect to be subtly reminded of the new rule during the next several weeks. "we reall it into people's minds give them that little grace period so come october 1st they're not all scrambling and going oh no i need to start with this new driving habit." the state's electronic message boards will include periodic reminders of the upcoming change during the next several weeks. they're hoping the effort will help the state's tourists know what to do when they're here too. "failure to follow the forty dollars for your first offense. reporting in the newsroom, rachelle baillon fox6 news." good news for drivers - the zoo interchange project is still on-schedule. and to stay on schedule-- there's going to be another significant ramp closure soon. justin williams shares more details for drivers. while it may sound small, this is one of the lightest volume ramps, in the interchange. the coming closure of this zoo interchange system ramp is a big deal. that's 7,000 people, a day, that are going to have to get to that, in a moment. first, wisconsin department of transportation spokesman ryan luck, delivers the details. on monday, august 15th, we're gonna be closing eastbound 94, to northbound 41, long-term, until spring of 2017. then, the southeast freeways construction chief describes the detours. highway 100, northbound is the closest to the interchange -- that's probably the primary route. you head north, up to bluemound, and rejoin, at the watertown plank interchange. also, highway 164, west of the zoo, is also a good, take 164, to capitol, and come in, north, on 41. drivers are not alone, in being made aware, as the d-o-t has notified the neighbors -- including the milwaukee regional medical complex, which, in turn, posts information on its website. all of the people that are very connected to the zoo interchange are aware of this long-term closure. /ryan says you can expect your alternate route to add 5-to-10 minutes to your trip, so, he suggests, you plan, accordingly. if you want more info closure, you can log onto fox-six-now-dot- com, and search the 'links' page. for now, this is the latest. i'm justin williams, fox 6 news. check the weekly construction forecast for the zoo interchange before - we have a links on our website, fox six now dot com, or your fox six news mobile app. in new york... a man has died and four others are recovering after being struck by lightning in a park in they were either sitting or standing near a bench . a 50-year-old man died of his injuries early saturday morning. a cell phone exploded in the pocket of one of the victims. another suffered a cardiac arrest. one local doctor says it is extremely rare to see lightning strike victims get brought into emergency rooms. this video shows a last-minute rescue during the flooding in louisiana. rescuers came across a woman who was stuck a sinking saturday. they tried to break a car window, but they couldn't. so one of the rescuers jumped into the water and pulled her out, just before her car went under. but she then said - her dog was still in the car. that's when the rescuer in the water took one more dive and came back with the dog. both the woman and her dog appeared to be okay. in and out of jail almost his entire life. u.s. marshals say it's time this fox6's jonathon gregg profiles a very dangerous man in this week's wisconsin's most wanted. he's been a milwaukee institution for more than thirty years.. "his entire life he's been in and out of prison." but for all the wrong reasons.. "most of them have been recklessly endangering safety, armed robbery, felon in possessions. he has been relation to homicides." this is the mug shot of 49-year-old willie hannah, u.s. marshals say, as far as bad-guys go. hannah has "done it all." "he was threatening the man telling him he was going to put him in the ground, he was going to put him in a grave." back in 2004 hannah wanted to collect a debt but when the money didn't show he aimed to take something fight. willie went back to his car and got a gun and started shooting at him." hannah was sentenced for 9 years on multiple felony counts but since getting out.. "he's not a safe man to be out on the streets." the veteran offender is under investigation yet again. "he's obviously been around firearms. he's been around shootings. he's definitely been questioned about other shootings." after a criminal career of three- decades marshals say it's high time hannah retires but first they've got to bring him in. "he has family and friends in beloit and also up here in milwaukee" hannah's body of work includes being a life long felon, he's also a convicted sex offender. "1985 that's when he started serving hard-time" and willie hannah is curr the only thing he knows.
