situation escalates to murder.... and is in custody. police were called to the area of 74th and glenbrook -- after two people were shot last night. a 57-year-old woman was taken to the hospital. 30-year-old kortni courtney thornton died at the scene.police say the suspect is a 32-year-old man that she knew. milwaukee police are asking for the public's help -- identifying suspects who set the b-mo harris bank on fire during the sherman park unrest. this is video from august 13th-- taken inside the bank at 36th and fond du get inside. before they left -- one of the suspects set something on fire. the fire spread-- causing about a million dollars in damages. the a-t-f is offering a 10-thousand dollar reward in the case. wisconsin attorney general brad schimel filing a motion late this afternoon to stop the courts from releasing brendan dassey. it is yet another legal twist in the case... this past august -- a judge overturned ?dassey's convic in september... and just yesterday, the same judge ordered dassey's supervised release while the decision is pending. madeline anderson is here in the studio-- with the state's argument behind their latest move. the motion requests the district court stop the release of brendan dassey... asking that the judge who made the order respond to the state by 4 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. that's when the state says it is filing an emergency motion in the 7th circuit court seeking a stay in wisconsin attorney general brad schimel outlines his argument for requesting the district court stay its decision to release brendan dassey. the state says the district court did not have the authority to release dassey pending the state's september appeal of judge willian duffin's ruling overturning dassey's murder conviction. over a decade ago... dassey confessed to helping his uncle steven avery kill photographer theresa halbach at avery's home in manitowoc county. d 2016... dassey's confession was coerced... ordering a re-trial in the case. tuesday's motion goes on to argue that the 7th circuit court will likely reverse dassey's overturned conviction based on the court's history of refusing to invalidate juvenile confessions. furthermore... the state says the release of dassey will pose a threat to the public given the extremely violent nature of the offenses. it says rendering a confession involuntary doesn't mean dassey is innocent. finally... the state says halbach's family and friends release. dassey's attorneys did not return my calls this afternoon. they told me this morning... they were notifying the u-s probation office of dassey's address... should he be released. the next step is for probation officers to inspect the residence. a serial carjacker is sentenced to 41 years in prison. he was known to threaten his victims with a firearm before stealing their cars. beverly taylor attended the sentencing and joins us live milwaukee county courthouse. brandon newson was 17 years old when he commited a string of seven carjackings affecting 10 victims in just a weeks time. there were 512 carjackings in 2015 in milwaukee. and, 19-year-old brandon newson of milwaukee was sentenced for committing seven of them. it started on may 24th 2015, with the first victim who was eight months pregnant. judge frederick steph thanks bev steph thanks bev a large fire in ozaukee county sends a homeowner and a firefighter to the hospital. itha home on highway 33 between saukville and newburg. the sheriff's office says the 41-year-old homeowner was using a motorized siphon to remove gas from a boat -- when it ignited. the man suffered serious burns to his hands and legs. a newburg firefighter was also taken to the hospital with a heat related injury. the home and garage are considered a total loss. former neurosurgeon ben carson is turning down a job offer from president-elect donald trump to be secretary of health and human services. advise the president-elect from outside the white house. meanwhile -- house speaker paul ryan will serve a second term as speaker of the house. the wisconsin congressman unanimously won the nomination from his republican colleagues today for another term. ryan says his focus is on helping president-elect trump with his agenda. ryan says: "we are on the same page, were working hand-in-glove, and were going to make sure that this is a very successful administration. but more importantly, were going to make sure that the voices that we heard in this election from the american people are acted upon" ryan al focus of the new administration will be to get the american people back to work. big news for governor scott walker. today -- he took over as the new chairman of the republican governors association. walker says this opportunity doesn't come around often --- with republican control of congress and the white house. with republican governors in 33 states -- there will be more than at any time since the 1920's. walker says he'll spend the
