The fires were reported within the last half an hour. Mike anderson at the scene. Progress right now, but under control. Firefighters, several crews still here on the scene. You can see two firefighters on top of the roof of a building that we understand now from witnesses. Our information is coming strictly from witnesses that this is the home that was occupied by a family. A man, woman and several children from what the witnesses are telling us. But the fire actually started in a vacant building next to it. That is where the main fire was. But it spread was occupied. And we seem to be having trouble with Mike Andersons feed. But well try to bring him back at that breaking news. The fire reported to the two homes at 33rd and hadley just a few moments. And later today, praying for peace in milwaukee. The archdiocese has organized a prayer vigil to support the neighborhood. It all starts at 6 30 at all street. The church is inviting people to come together after the unrest over the weekend. Another event later today, a job fair for people affected by the unrest. It runs from 11 00 until 3 00 today at the lords Way International church. The job fair is organized by local businesses trying to help people affected by the fires that broke out during the unrest over the weekend. Met with members of the sherman park neighborhood. It was a tense meeting boys and Girls Club Last night. People say they want their neighborhood back to normal. It currently closes a the 6 00 p. M. Instead of the normal 10 00 p. M. And they say shutting it down early puts kids at risk. Its been a now, instead of us having a space to keep an eye on the kids in a closed space, now theyre being pushed back out into the community where they can go whichever way. Police say that it was a productive meeting. Reopen during those late evening hours. And authorities are investigating the Police Shooting that started the unrest. Learned that the officer at the center of all of this was once an aspiring rapper. You can see him right here in this music video behind this. Police have not identified the officer. Were not naming him, either, because of the threats that officer has received. But weve certained when the officer was working as a Police Internal investigation into that officers music. Now, in that song that you just saw, he was referencing rioting. He did pass a background check. He was sworn in to the police back in 2014. Now, wisn12 news has also learned that the officer and smith did know each other. Although, they did not attend the same high school. Ben, over to you. And that officer has also been the target of threats. People have posted his name, where he may live. An associate law professor at marquette says the posts may not be smart, but they are legal unless they are calling for immediate violence. Maybe a gallon paint bucket. Theres been 6. 9 trillion gallons of rain to hit louisiana thats leading to some massive flooding. One area saw about 2 1 2 feet of rain in a single day smashing records. 13 people have died, thats up from 2 from yesterday. Because of the flooding, 40,000 homes are damaged, First Responders have rescued more than 20,000 people along with 1,000 pets helping with the rescues. Some Good Samaritans called the cajun navy, a group of civilians patrolling the area and theyre on boats and rescuing people. You can see now as the sun comes up, firefighters have got the fire under control and knocked downright now. It started in a vacant building and spread to an occupied building right next door. Two witnesses here this morning. Linda, it woke you up out of your sleep. Yes . Okay. All i seen was the house on fire. I can see the flames when we i understand from one of the other neighbors, theyve been trying to get the vacant building torn down. Yeah. They always dump a lot of stuff back there. Okay. And you were inside your home . I was sleeping and my neighbor woke me up and said there was a fire. The house is on fire. And i understand the family that lived here, a woman and man and several children, is that correct . I dont know them. A woman and man inside this house that you can see the firefighters on top of the roof now. A neighbor or someone in the neighborhood happened to be passing by and saw the flames and went and knocked on that door to get those people out because that neighbor knew this building, at least, was occupied. They got them out. You described them as a woman and man. And looked like it could be three children. We have not seen them, we do not scene. They have both fires from both houses under control right now. Started in the vacant building and spread next door to the home where it was occupied but the family did get out okay. Rio two american swimmers have been released from Police Custody after being questioned. Four u. S. Swimmers reported that they were robbed in rio. Authorities, though, say their story doesnt add up. Well, right now, a carnival ride is back open just after 1 day after electrically shocking six children. Those six kids were shocked when they were holding on to those metal railings of that ride. This all happened in new london, connecticut. Firefighters and paramedics. They rushed to this carnival. All six minor injuries and they were released from the hospital overnight. Now, Officials Say electricians have checked out this ride. Its called the scrambler. They say it is now safe. Investigators found a faulty wire at a nearby ride. Visitors are now able to ride that ride once again. A baltimore mother who made headlines when she pulled her fergson is now homeless. It shows her smacking her son and dragging him home so he cant participate in those riots. Now her home has burned down. That same son stepped away from a stove and a grease fire started.
