-- drunk driving convictions three already. 12 news nick bohr has been investigating the case. he joins us live from cesar chavez and greenfield in milwaukee. >> that victim 27-year-old amy , mayek, was crossing cesar chavez here around 1:30 in the morning last week wednesday when a speeding car plowed into her and never stopped. a suspect was arrested wednesday a man with a history of driving , drunk. responding officers found the victim still sprawled on the pavement early last wednesday. they later identified her as 27-year-old amy mayek of milwaukee. her injuries critical. police reviewed surveillance video showing the driver hit her and just kept going. 12 news has learned police found that car six hours later about 10 blocks from the crash scene. the owner said her son in law borrowed it and she hadn't seen it or him since. we've learned the 33-year-old milwaukee man behind the wheel dodged police for days but , turned himself in a week later three convictions. >> at least he is facing up to what he did. >> the victim's longtime friend also happens to know the suspect who she says claims he looked , away from the road just before hitting amy. >> he dropped his cell phone and went to reach for it. when he looked up, she was right there. >> nine days later, the young mother remains hospitalized and and a coma. >> a lot more extensive surgeries need it's going to be a really bad thing. they said she will never be back to normal again. >> milwaukee police are still putting their case together trying to match dna found on the front of the suspect's car with with the victim before sending it to the attorney general. joyce: a milwaukee grandfather 16-year-old grandson. travon overton was killed yesterday, his body dumped in an alley near 38th and park hill on the city's west side. his grandfather says overton lived with him on the other side of the city. he suspects overton was shot someplace else and his body was dropped there. his grandfather says he did all he could to save travon from a troubled life, and a death that sadly he warned was bound to happen. >> this is the end, either they get killed or go to jail. so that is why i am so frustred north division high school. police are still looking for suspects. new on 12, the search for a pair of perfume thieves on the run in pleasant prairie. police released these surveillance pictures of the women in the ulta store on september 6. they say the women got away with $797 worth of perfume. if you have any information, you are asked to call the kenosha crime stoppers. kathy: a one-year-old wisconsin child dies after being run over by a horse. investigators say the little boy was inside a barn in clark county with his father when it happened. when first responders arrived, but later died at the hospital. >> farming is a very dangerous occupation. people get hurt, there is a potential for people to get hurt all the time on farms. i can't remember an incident like this where a child was stepped on by a horse or a cow. kathy: the incident is still under investigation. no other information is being released at this time. joyce: new tonight, making sure hundreds of absentee balts milwaukee count. state election officials have ordered local clerks to complete witnesses' addresses on those ballots. a new wisconsin law states absentee ballots without a witness address don't count. but the commission today tweaked the language to allow clerks to correct addresses without voter consent if they can find the address through reliable sources like tax rolls. the move will allow the city of milwaukee to preserve about 600 ballots. don't talk about the latest twitter storm from somebody. kathy: that's about as close as house speaker paul ryan came to mentioning donald trump while talking to college republicans today. ryan used his appearance at uw madison today to criticize democrat hillary clinton and promote republicans in next month's elections, all without saying the words donald trump. ryan did not take questions from reporters. he did however answer prescreened questions from the audience. >> to have is not the one we are having right now. the one we want is we have ideas and solutions, so let's go win this and the right to do it. kathy: trump has cancelled his campaign visit to west allis monday. the campaign said he won't be able to appear at state fair park because of a scheduling conflict. trump is still scheduled to hold a rally in green bay monday afternoon. paul ryan, governor walker, and senator ron johnson will not be there. all say they have prior three commitments. watched senate races in the country. the two candidates for u.s. senate in wisconsin will face off in their first debate in less than an hour in green bay. republican incumbent ron johnson right now trails challenger democrat russ feingold by two points according to the new marquette law school poll. their second debate will be tuesday. wisn 12, in partnership with the marquette university law school, will host that live event. upfront host mike gousha is the moderator. you can watch it live beginning at 8:30 p.m. tuesday night right here on house could be in play. but a wisconsin congressman tells upfront host mike gousha he thinks voters will distinguish between trump and other candidates. >> what does the top of the ticket do to the rest of the ticket? do we know? what's your feeling about that? very different presidential race, and i think the top of the ticket pull or drag is not going to be as severe as it is in other laid to rest in his hometown tomorrow. flag lined streets greeted the remains of corporal donald hendrickson as they returned to janesville. corporal hendrickson went missing in action in korea in 1950. many of his family members who are still alive never met him. they say they were shocked to find out that after all of these years he was finally coming home. >> you don't know exactly how to feel. celebration. joyce: hendrickson's remains were found by a u.s. and north korean recovery team. he will be buried with full military honors tomorrow. happening now visitation is , going on at this hour for a plymouth middle school teacher who died of cancer. it was one week ago today more than 600 students brought homecoming to jeff petrie's home. the 51-year-old died the next day. petrie taught fifth grade at riverview middle school. his funeral will be held tomorrow morning. kathy: new tonight at 10:00, casting your vote early and now your want to switch your choice? the right you a bayview home is at it again, going big for halloween with a political twist. joyce: hillary mintz shows us how their display will help kids in the community. >> with some calling this presidential election scary. andy reid and his partner jaimie beauchamp couldn't resist. >> we felt it was the perfect theme this year considering who's running and all that good stuff. >> reid says art imitates reality here at their home near idaho and clement in bay view. >> we have the candidates. they are debating. , secret service. they're hoping the display draws big crowds who donate to pathfinders, a milwaukee organization that helps troubled kids and teens. last year, their wizard of oz display helped raise $6,000. >> awesome. that is a great feeling. it is definitely needed. i mean that is awesome. >> while this display is about raising money for kids in need, they had fun as them of what halloween is all about. >> it makes you feel like a kid again. when you are an adult, you lose part of that aspect of being a kid with trick-or-treating. this allows us to be involved with the kids during trick-or-treating and throughout the season. >> big kids at heart helping other kids. in bay view, hillary mintz, wisn 12 news. joyce: a and j's halloween house is on display and lit up every again, that is at idaho and clement. kathy: the milwaukee county zoo is slashing admission prices this weekend to celebrate the upcoming halloween holiday. it's called boo at the zoo. grab the little ones and head out to the zoo tonight and tomorrow from 6:00 until 9:00. there will haystack maze for kids to navigate, a dancing light show, and carmel apples. >> and we like to call it not too spooky activities, so even if you have young kids even two years old to 12-years-old bring them out don't be afraid , because it's not going to be like a haunted house or anything overly spooky, so it's just a fun family friendly event. kathy: admission for boo at the zoo is $9 for adults, $7 for for free. new tonight, it's an event many people anticipate all year. joyce: tonight, we know the famous we energies holiday cookie book will make its big debut saturday, november 5. you can pick up your free book at miller park between 9:00 a.m. and what :00 p.m. if you can't wait, it will also be handed out at the milwaukee county sports complex in franklin november 1. kathy: it's kind of hard to think about the holidays with our warm weather. joyce: mark: we are not done. temperatures will be well above average. it is close again. let's show you how many days we have until certain holidays are are coming up. we are only 17 days away from halloween. the time changes on november 6, 23 days away. that's when we turn the clock back. away. nice, beautiful sunset. the daylight hours continue to get shorter, a sign of the times that we still have cold air to calm. 59 right now, dew point at 46, wind strong out of the south, southeast at 14, holding our temperatures up for the night. we will cool off with clear skies early on, then tonight. all this warmer air to the west. 68 kansas city. this warm air will move in as we had throughout this forecast. a lot of you heading off to football games tonight, temperatures in the 50's, southerly wind at 10-15 miles per hour. this weekend, 70 degrees as we head into saturday night, you have to watch out for a good chance of thunderstorms moving in, and then still a shower or two hanging on into sunday morning. sunday afternoon, a few breaks here and there, temperatures around 68 degrees, so your best bet to get outside this weekend would definitely be during the day on saturday. temperatures hitting 70 degrees on saturday in milwaukee. you have no idea what is going on there, do you? there was an entire wardrobe change. we have a new microphone because there were some issues. sunday, early showers, better chance of rain sunday night. a great weekend to get out there, especially throughout the day on saturday. into the pacific northwest, bringing tornadoes, torrential rain, strong wind gusting up to 100 miles per hour along the coast. a few clouds for us, but that's it. some of that cloudiness continues to roll and throughout saturday, but dry during the daylight hours, then as we head into the evening, you need to be ready for rain showers. those will work their way into here. as the day goes on on sunday, things get and the better chance of rain would be the first half of the day. warm on saturday and sunday, and all must summer-like on monday. i would not be surprised if we get to 80 degrees on monday, which would be way above average. 72 on tuesday, and most of next week is looking dry, but we cool things down back into the 50's on thursday and friday. joyce: you were a quickchange artist there. mark: i had a little help. time, the woman at the center of an on-campus rape scandal speaks only to "20/20." nicole eramo was the university of virginia associate dean of students when rolling stone wrote a story about a woman named jackie gang-raped at a frat house. that article was later retracted and the magazine apologized. 12 news ben wagner talked with amy robach about the story. >> she was very emotional telling her story. she struggled quite a bit not to cry throughout the interview. she is just very sad that she no longer works with students. she told me that it was her life's work. kathy: watch "20/20" at 9:00, followed by 12 news at 10:00. joyce: hard to believe, but it's the final friday night of the regular season for operation football. stephanie: it is. week nine coming up. 12 sports stephen watson will have a live preview from our game of the week in racine. plus ever wonder what it's like , being the younger brother of an nfl superstar?
