"we do not need to be lectured about why we're angry and frustrated and fearful, because we've had an illegal immigration problem in this country for this sunday, the democratic presidential candidates will be in the lowcountry for a debate in downtown charleston. it's the final democratic debate sanctioned by the democratic national committee before the iowa caucuses and new hampshire primary begin in early february. the debate is sponsored by the congressional black caucus institute and is hosted by nbc news. wis will have a special decision 2016 show at 7 saturday night. we will have one-on-one interviews with several gop candidates and an overall look at the race for president primary. yesterday a judge denied bond for two men facing charges in an attempted murder investigation. orangeburg county deputies say christopher pressley and derrick james are responsible for a crime spree that started at the beginning of january. they are charged with armed robbery and four counts of attempted murder and one count of armed robbery. yesterday the judge denied bond saying the men are a danger to the community. a columbia man will spend 15 years in prison for a human trafficking case. kristopher block pleaded guilty wednesday to criminal sexual conduct with a minor and human trafficking of a minor. attorney general alan wilson says block will have to register as a sex offender and will be electronically monitored for life. investigators say the minor was found with block at a motel in columbia on december fourth. the ag's office says this is the third human trafficking conviction in the past three months under the state's 2012 human trafficking law. after reporting on a string of church burglaries in learned that deputies in neighboring bamberg county are also investigating similar crimes. our chad mills has the update. at the word of life pentecostal holiness church in bamberg... ...pastor dwight brazell still has some cleaning up and repair work to do. "i was stunned when i first walked in. my discipleship ministry director was here, and he said, 'i got a surprise for you.' i walked in, and i said, 'woah!'" bamberg county deputies say his church was broken into, ransacked, and burglarized sometiti over the weekend. "i seen my pastor's door was knocked in and kicked in and broken. then, there was a closet there that was broken in the secretary's office." a safe, along with $300 and the church keys inside it, were gone. the window of the church's sunday school room was shattered. overall, a lot of damage. "about $4,000 worth." alone. two neighboring churches in bamberg were also targeted by burglars, including spring branch baptist church on deacon road and mt. zion united methodist church on pulpit road. then, there's nine churches just over the border into orangeburg county, the majority of them in the small town of cope. deputies there say those were also hit a few days ago. in some of them, items were stolen, but in others, nothing was. "if they would've asked, we would have probably helped them more than likely as we do other people who ask. i just hate that they took from the kids." because inside the stolen safe at brazell's church -- funds to build a church playground. "barefoot, bathing suits, tank tops, shorts. and i never wore sunscreen. that's one thing you jenny learned a super tough lesson about overexposure to sun ... and the lack of wearing any sun protection. that awareness started in 2014 when a bump developed on her nose. "it would be itchy, dry, and i would scratch and scratch. and i'd put moisturizers on it. and it would just never go away." she thought she was allergic to her moisturizer so she changed to a new product. "and then it got to where it was just getting bigger like wider and i thought well something's not right here. it's just not going away." jenny finally went to a dermatologist. "the minute she saw me she said, 'how long has that been on your nose?' and i said a year, maybe a little more. and i knew by the look on her face that it was more than dry skin." pictures are difficult to see, but they're the reality jenny faced. her delay in getting treatment allowed the skin cancer to spread so viciously, doctors had to remove part of her nose and a chunk of her cheek. dr. todd lefkowitz w wh lexington plpltic surgery at lexington medical center then redesigned and repaired her face in a three-stage reconstruction. "we actually took her forehead here, raised it up and then turned it down to make her nose. at the same time, because a large part of her cheek was missing, we had to take chee skin and cheek tissue that was beside it, raise it up and move it over to try and create a more her nose to give it more internal part of the nose so when she breathes some of that air can flow easier and be humidified as it goes through." the nose from the forehead formed its own blood supply, dr. lefkowitz was able to detach it from the forehead giving it a smoother appearance. "the hope is that no one gets into her position. obviously, the earlier you catch skin cancer, whether it's melanoma or non-melanoma, basal cell or squamous cell, it's very treatable and often times, it's treatatae without surgery." susie has her face back, but only after a very invasive treatment plan - that could have been avoided. violations. investigations are on- going. new this morning... lowcountry officials have a better idea what to expect as construction gets underway on plant. berkeley county leaders met with department of commerce leaders this week to tour the bmw assembly plant in greer. it was built more than 20 years ago. the volvo plant northwest of charleston is expected to employ about 2- thousand workers during the next decade. a community pitched in to put a headstone on the grave of the baby who died after her mother carried her into a creek near socastee. the gravestone was paid for by community residents and set at 5 month old graa carlson santa cruz's grave wednesday. her mother, 33 year old sarah lane toney is charged with homicide by child abuse. she told authorities she was carrying her daughter across a creek in november when the baby was washed away. months after the history- making floods --- a site with a lot of history in lexington is still trying to rebound. the pond that sits near the old mill off highway one was a scenic place before the nearby dam breached --- sending out millions of gallons of water. high seas properties, which owns the site, says anywhere from two to five million dollars. what town leaders are counting on is the site's place in future planning. officials say since it could soon be considered public space for recreation they've appealed to fema for some help meeting the cost. appliance maker haier group is buying ge appliances for $5.4 billion dollars. haier and ge announced the sale early this morning. they have agreed to form a strategic partnership in areas such as the internet, healthcare, and advanced manufacturing. ge's sale of its appliance unit comes in the midst of an effort by the company to shift its focus to higher- technology and higher- profit areas such as medical equipment. this morning -- a highly debated rock quarry project proposed in lexington county, will go before a judge. the company behind the project, vulcan materials, wants to build in the leesville area. one of two proposals vulcan gave county council in november would close stutman road -- that is what will be discussed in vulcan says closing stutman road would keep the mining operation farther away from houses. many residents have voiced concerns about noise and pollution, but say closing stutman road is not a solution either. today's hearing is at 9am. governor nikki save money. a section of the yellow river in northwest china has frozen over for what chinese state television says is the first time. government officials say floating ice chunks are jamming up a and remembering rickman for his incredible on-screen talent. he died of cancer. he was 69 years old. up next on sunrise -- new developments in a deadly attack in jakarta. the latest on new arrests in the a bipartisan group of senators is leading a charge to boost pay for state workers by five percent. supporters of the measure say it will cost $75 million dollars, but they say that money is available because of an unusually large budget surplus. the state's 35-thousand employees have gotten pay hikes in only two of the last seven years. i think we're in the best shape we've been in the last three decades. the economy's improving dramatically, unemployment has dropped. we're one of the few states in the country that has a triple-a bonding rating. we're picking up population. people are moving in, industry's about 75 percent of state employees make less than $40 thousand dollars. lawmakers and state employee association members say some workers have to turn to public assistance or work second jobs to keep up with the cost of living. if approved, the pay raises will take effect july 1st. lexington leaders are still working on ways to help drivers get through their town more easily. new 'in sync' traffic lights were recently installed at five intersections close to where east main street meets church street as well as lake drive. town officials say the new signals changed based on how many cars are there, not a timer, which should ease congestion. lexington is aiming to have 35 intersections equipped with these lights by the end of next year. other long-term traffic plans in the works include a new roundabout on 378 close to the intersection with highway 6. after reporting on a string of church burglaries in orangeburg county, wis has learned that deputies in neighboring bamberg county are also investigating similar crimes. sheriff ed darnell confirms three churches in bamberg county were also struck in the meantime, his deputies have increased patrols of the county's churches as they search for a suspect or suspects. meanwhile, orangebebg county continues to investigate nine separate church burglaries.
