northern portion of the viewing area near the nc/sc border. the opportunity for the wintry mix is from 3am - 10am, afterwards a cold rain will continue on and off until early tuesday afternoon. starting tuesday, daytime highs will climb to the low and middle 60s to end the week. a university of mississippi senior volleyball and track 23-year-old ty laporte was killed in a car crash thursday near holly springs. raycom's rose eiklor has details on the crash that ended ty's life and more on her stand-out career at ole miss. sot "i feel like the game is clicking more everyday. in practice,everyday, i'm learning more" 23 year old ty laporte was killed in a horrible accident on thursday night. mississippi highway patrol says laporte collided with an 18 wheeler driven by a 63 year old from alabama. he was not injured but laporte died on scene. skid marks, car parts and even these shoes were at the scene on friday. sot 8:10:42 "anytime someone in the ole miss community passes away especially someone like she was it really hurt all of us as a family we come together" on the ole miss campus, about an hour from where the accident happened, her teammates and friends are mourning her loss. sot 8:11:08 "i cant put into words how it makes me feel" laporte was a volleyball and sot 8:10:55 "she was a star" she was from south carolina and total blocks. sot 8:09:43 "she had big dreams and big goals" students say now is the time to pray for laporte's family and the volleyball team. sot 8;11:55 "its more than a bond of players it hurts. it hurts" rose oc ole miss athletic director ross bjork released a statement expressing his sympathys to friends and family members of laporte. he said this athlete touched many with her amazing and an orangeburg county man accused of attacking and choking a nurse is now facing burglary charges. investigators say they linked dna from a 2014 burglary, to bryan pierson. he's the guy accused of attacking a nurse last month while he was being treated. pierson is also the suspect who broke into a business in neeses and stole a four wheeler and electronics. a pair of sumter county residents have been charged with animal abuse after one dog was found dead and another -- starving. monica daniels and patrick simon were both arrested and charged with ill treatment of animals. a sumter county deputy was helping to serve an eviction notice last month, when he spotted the malnourished dog feeding off the remains of another dog. animal control was called to the scene and they found no food or shelter for the dogs. meanwhile, the surviving dog, known as sugar, is alive, well, and will be available for adoption soon. a dog in fairfield county has a second chance at life thanks to some generous people. emanuel is an 11 month old shepherd mix. late last year he was found abandoned and badly hurt at carolina adventure world. doctors at fairfield animal hospital concluded, emanuel had been dragged by a car and was badly malnourished. his rescuers created a go fund there they say the support took off. 10am, afterwards a cold rain will continue on and off until early tuesday afternoon. starting tuesday, daytime highs and middle 60s to end the week. breaking news into our wis newsroom --- breaking news into our wis newsroom --- two police officers in louisiana and one suspect are in the hospital for gunshot wounds after a confrontation in baton rouge. officials say the officers confronted the suspect after a 2-mile vehicle chase this morning. after the chase, the suspect got out of his vehicle with a rifle, firing at the officers, hitting both of them. the officers returned fire and hit the suspect. the officers are in stable condition. no word on condition of the suspect. died in a shooting at a high school in a phoenix suburb. officials say both victims were 15-year-old girls and were shot once. authorities are not searching for any suspects and say a weapon was found near the bodies. the students were found near an administration building. police say they received a call of a shooting just before 8 a.m. on friday. authorities have identified the man they say attacked people with a machete during dinnertime at a columbus, ohio restaurant. police identified the man as 30-year-old mohamed barry. a police spokesman says an attempt to stop the suspect using a stun gun was not successful. an officer shot the man when he lunged at them with the machete and another knife. three men and one woman were hurt in the thursday night attack. the u.s. and south korea are taking steps to prevent missile attacks from north korea. an additional patriot missile battery is being deployed in the south in response to north korea's nuclear test and a long- range an even more sophisticated missile defense system could be set up --- following talks next week between seoul, south korea and washington. the city of flint, michigan has introduced a fleet of mobile pediatric clinics. the health facilities on wheels are aimed at getting proper care and treatment to children harmed by the city's lead water crisis. at least one of the mobile clinics was donated to the city by the new york- based children's health fund. the mobile clinics came on friday -- the same day letters warning flint residents about excessive lead levels in the city's water. some residents are being warned not to drink the tap water, even if they have a filter. bill cosby's wife will not have to testify against him. camille cosby is still subject to a deposition. but a u-s district court in massachusetts ruled this week -- she will not have to testify against her husband. bill cosby's attorney called the decision "critically important." the attorney says the decision confidential nature of discussions between spouses -- and the protections given to those talks. kanye west is stirring up controversy on twitter --- again. the rapper tweeted, "bill cosby innocent!" followed by several exclamation marks. west did not elaborate and apparently ignored numerous angry responses to the tweet. among the people who slammed him were actress sarah silverman and tru- tv host billy eichner. thousands of police officers and soldiers have been deployed in mexico as part of a massive security operation for the pope's visit. city workers are sweeping streets, security forces are being deployed and tourists from across mexico and latin america are gathering. the pontiff is expected to greet thousands of supporters. he is expected to address several issues during his 6-day trip including immigration, poverty and organized crime. there are new efforts to re-open commercial air travel to cuba for the first time in more than 50 former charlotte mayor and now transportation secretary anthony foxx is heading to cuba next week to officially re-open the air ways. once the agreement is signed, it could lead to more than 100 daily round-trip flights in and out of cuba. the town of lexington is trying to make the business of closing that craig'slist deal -- safer. lexington police has designated an area in the municipal complex on maiden lane as a safe place for people to meet up when they buy and sell things online. the area is monitored by a 24-hour surveillance camera. but officials warn you still have to be cautious when setting up these purchases.
