Well, they come with a lot of deal breakers. Like when you leave the city the signal goes weak. U. S. Cellular built a network to give you a stronger signal where the other guys dont. And as for deals . Hows 300 back for every line you switch . 300 no ball nonsense. Get 300 per line and a stronger signal, hello, jimmy johns . [squealing tires] [swoosh] jimmy johns here what took ya so long . Jimmy johns freaky fresh, freaky fast. I love a man in uniform [loud kids and dog] jimmy johns hello, Jimmy Johns Jimmy Johns you meant good morning. This is insiders. Inside this mornings Senate Campaign thats more likely not to last. We will go back and forth with those two and a little bit plus medicaid makeover, our original insiders will join us on the questions, fears and anger of this medicaid switch and whether iowans will really be better off and if taxpayers were really pay the money and in quick picks whether iowa kids should have the pledge allegiance at school but we start with a metro metro dad who had become his own lobbyist of swords sorts. He once took say the rules of divorce need a major makeover. Its all what he learned after he got divorced. Travis is a father of two from johnston. Good morning and thanks to being divorce is bad obviously, but you are issue wasnt really a big big problem might . It was pretty simple, pretty unified between both my ex lives and die. We both have times with our children which is important and this bill we are providing the legislature is really about equal time for the children with both parents and that is something that the legislature i dont think has approved in the past because there is so much tied to the Court Systems and the money involved with the her parents not spending time with both parents. Apple to section uphold a section from the iowa code that i think looks like i pulled a section of the iowa code that deals with and you want to have it be assuming 5050 even from the get go and work from there right . Correct. Wed like we like divorce situations to start with 50 50 which is maximizing childrens Financial Impact on both parents and divorce situations and eliminates the adversarial nature that the court currently puts parents and when they go through divorce. The newest one i could find out of the demography journal there was a statistic from 1986 to 20 oh eight and that way back then at the start of this they measured 80 percent of mothers get sole custody and over a 20 year period that changed to 42 percent said things are equal light out. What is the resistance to this . About three or four years ago there was another house bill h f 345 that passed the house but did not get a lot of ground in the senate appeared retried to get it through both houses this year. That bill like this bill is trying to get children to spend equal time with both parents. I think they benefit greatly from that, and a lot of studies promote that. There is tons of information if doctors. Childrens role models of their parents so they need both parents involved in their lives as much as possible, because that is how much theyre going to benefit the most later in their life. One challenge i read is that the parents need a cordial environment or this is doomed and by simple math we have seven days in and weeks they must figure out what is best so they dont shuffle kids that on monday mom tuesday all the way through. You have to figure that out as well. Correct. It is based on a twoweek schedule and theres different types of schedule you can do but one week on one week off we call 43 week off for three for shoveling and a lot of times thats how you work out in equal agreement between the parents but you need parents who communicate and dont fight a lot. When youre going through a divorce it is not a fun environment and you dont really like talking about it to your friends or people you work with going through it you really need support and when youre going into a divorce situation with the Court Systems in place now, what they want to know is how much money do you make and what are your assets. They want to know how much they can take away from you while youre going to this very bad time timing or life when that should really stay with your family even though your family is becoming to separate homes. Did you get hosed by an attorney . It doesnt sound like you have a great view of attorneys through this. When i was first staring divorce in the face i wanted 5050 with my children and it did not end up that way. When you walk into the attorneys office, that is the problem. They want to figure out what theyre going to collect because theres money tied to this and theres federal for funding tied to disk and its part of the Child Support money. They get more money from what they collect then what the if there is money tied to these childrens back they have quotas they want to meet and that is how they will keep things rolling financially. Divorce is a 50 billion industry across the nation and weve got to stop kind of the greed that is involved. Thank you for sharing your story and we will see where this goes the rest of the session. When we come back, a former iowa lawmaker thinks big big fertilizer Plant Project in southeast iowa is in big trouble. The current state lawmaker is talking about. Southeast iowa has high hopes for a new fertilizer plant. We have heard at three different ways since the iowa state house but whatever way it is one. 9 billion project the subject of a federal lawsuit. Contractors say they have not dollars. Democratic us cant Senate Candidate once representative bobby kaufmans Oversight Committee to investigate and lets say these two do not see the issue the same way. It is in danger of stopping. We have liens that a been filed, weve got 120 million filed last summer, there is another 56 million that was filed recently, and there is another lien of 200 million. If there is people not paying their bills theyre getting sued in the desert to get sued i hope they get ruled against and i hope the people of the money get their dollars, but to allege that the whole plant is in jeopardy because of some bad actors i dont think is a good what they seem to be doing is building up a debt pile with contractors forcing the contractors out, getting another they are kind of skimming on the contractors finance. There is a lawsuit. His claims of money being owed, and i think the legal system will work that out. The Oversight Committee always remains on call for any and all issues but at this point i do not have any issues with the fertilizer plants themselves. We have a lot of workers that have the potential to be really really hurt very soon. This is iowa. Wherein tagged state. The state. The ad economy is very holding on just barely as it is. And holding out from a project of this magnitude that affects this many people, not only do i think that is on the table but i think it would be significantly detrimental to an already unstable economy. Newmont beat to investigate the money situation and he also wants the American Red Cross and move in when this plant shuts down. Representative kaufman is not convinced any of that is necessary now. I found dozens of upset, worried frustrated i was at the iowa statehouse this week and next our original insiders are here. Iowans really have reason we heard and learned a lot watching accented oversight hearing this past week about governor branstads plan to massively change i was Medicaid Health coverage to a private medicare system. We learned some more impacted our mad and scared. My mother was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis when i was eight years old, and thankfully my father worked for the government as a postal worker so his insurance takes care of most of it. Retired im sick and you people that are on this Privatized Company are trying to make money off of our backs and all youve done is put me in limbo over and over and over again. This is all Terry Branstad in this administration has done for me and my parents and yes im angry im very angry. Several dozen people did show up this past week at a hearing to kind of share and plead for help in getting through this process. The start of this privatization plan has not been smooth and the party said the Branstad Administration is slowed things down twice. People of this hearing say they also cant get off answers they need. This is been so very rudely thrown in all of our faces the fast that its been almost six months since packet started being mailed out but my best friend still has not gotten her initial enrollment packet. Theyre still saying to us i know how thats going to work yet. They said on april 1st we can give you the answers we cant give you the answers before then to get lets bring in our insiders this morning, the original insiders Jerry Crawford is in des moines attorney and democratic adviser to Hillary Clintons president ial campaign and next to him Mike Mahaffey the republican partys former state chair sharons nominee for congress who advises his wife patty. She advises me. [laughter] you heard from that hearing. I dont think it is necessarily true because this is going to be privatized that we cant have more Efficient Administration and still not have good services. We dont know that yet but there theres no reason to believe interestingly enough, they are doing this and they have money to do this in their budget already. Another thing i think as it did take a little longer to get this done. Its not going to start until february. You can go forward with this by the Obama Administration and that should make people feel a little better. But the governor cant be wrong on this right . Youre dealing with people who would need 24 seven care. He cant get this wrong right . No. Remember this. Terry branstad came from des moines university, and he had the opportunity during that period of time to deal with the question of healthcare and how it should be given out and how it should be administered. I think youre absolutely right knowing Terry Branstad or think hes going to make sure that it efficient but also compassionate. This wont be the obama care launch part to right . Its not going to go that long at the beginning . Let us hope not. State government in iowa under both democrats and republicans has actually had a pretty good run and people have felt pretty good about State Government had i think that is another reason why this will work. This is a big switch. Will it work or . It is. And i think everyone in both parties in both chambers at the hill hope desperately for the best for iowans to receive this care. No one is pulling against this but the concerns are very real. There have been companies in this space all over the country that have engaged over and over again with this switch. They come in with low bids. That is how they get selected and once they are in place they profits for these corporations. Either they reduce services, save money and make a profit, or they get involved with folks who need to upgrade what they are receiving so they then come in and say they had to play more they have to pay more money. So the oversight that people are talking about is not so much in my way of thinking april 1st oversight at this oversight and 36 months from now what better idea than to have iowans i know make make the chair of committee paying close attention to whether those iowans in desperate need are getting what they need. As we look at this whole thing about health care whether it be for those on medicaid or Health Healthcare or whatever weve got to find ways to compassionate way. Almost 0. 50 of federal budget now goes to Medicare Medicaid and social security. This is not sustainable the way Different Things but jerry is right, there must be vigilant oversight. The governor is pushing for big changes with meta mental metal Mental Health institutes and in neither has been smooth. The fed said yes to this in the court said yes to Mental Health. I would take exception with what youve said that Terry Branstad has got get this right. I think maybe kim reynolds has to get this right as we look down the road. Every state agency needs to get it right. Scully grassley sandoval next we will sort out how Supreme Court justice hunting trip and texas in texas. Is that president obama should not get to replace scalia then he would not say as judiciary chair if you would hold hearings if they picked person and then they said they would not hold that after wrong then senator grassley said greer was quote the most nakedly partial judiciary chair and history in history and he followed that up with that was being essentially malarkey. Sandoval fat said no thanks regardless if this was real or not real. First of all, i respectfully dont think it was the white house who floated sandovals name. I think ultimately it was a harry reid play and when he playing when he got finished sandoval apparently turned his sights on then a different senator. Be fair about this. If we had a republican president right now democrats would be saying exactly the same thing the republicans were saying. Republicans would not be opposing this. Of course not. So what is comes down to is does the president nominates someone good . We have a very prominent name right here in Iowa Circuit Court of appeals judge jane kelly who grassley introduced in washington when she was up for confirmation when she was confirmed 9620 and she was assured for confirmation when she was the rest of the republican colleagues on the bench. She hasnt shown any hint or evidence of extremism, very moderate in her approach on the be a terrific choice. If a choice like that gets made its going to be hard for senator grassley and for republicans in general. Are you squeamish with the republicans in the way they are doing this . No. In 1992 senator biden said two things on the floor he said number one there wasnt a vacancy but he said if there were a vacancy, he said he thinks the president of the United States showed at that time and during the last year perhaps think about not making any kind of nomination until after the political season was over, and if he did so, that the senate should contact consider not holding the hearing. Jerry is right. You take the republican rhetoric and if its 2008 you take and put it in the democrats mouth and the problem is this two things. Was a giant among conservative or traditional jurisprudence. It is very very difficult to think of anyone who president obama said did not meet that criteria. Absolutely right. Barack obama won reelection as president in 2012. In 2014 republicans picked up nine seats in the senate so hey control the senate. I just dont think this is really going to get done. If Hillary Clinton becomes president , the republicans could really get burned with this move. They could, but if she does i dont believe that what happens right now or concerning this is going to be a major factor. She could be the next president of the United States and if she does that thats not going to make a difference that is going to make a difference. Not going to nominate someone like antonin scalia. Fair enough. When we come back, turnout allegiance, and clover two. Oh. Time for inside a quick pics. Is the planned project in trouble because of all of these mike . I hope not. I googled it last night and kept getting harsco brother then that company name so i hope thats not a portent of things to come so we will have to wait and see. Geek it sounds like the company is going to be stung by the scorpion spider. It is in trouble. They are not just being sued by local suppliers and providers. There is a fraud case pending against them by the federal government. Its a problem. Culver is out there essentially campaigning against this medicaid switch. Is he going to run for something this year . I dont know the answer to this. Personally, i think he would be a very good candidate either for congress or the senate. Will clinton and tron be the Party Nominees this year mike . Probably. I think they have been for several months. Mike, your party has been setting turnout records and all the early states and democrats have not why is that . A lot of it has to do with donald trump to be very honest with you. We had a spectacular turnout for essentially a two candidate race. Republicans only had to stop by the pizza ranch and. Question five walkie schools are thing saying kids have to pledge the allegiance in all schools should that be a align our states. Theres nothing wrong with the pledge of allegiance. Supreme court cases that you cannot force children to say that. Sixty years ago there were some jehovahs witnesses and theyre saying you cant force kids to do it but saying thing and theres nothing wrong with that. I agree. Let everyone stand up and if some people want to remain silent, let them. Predictions . To get the serious. The serious talk about a challenge to congressman steve king in the Fourth District is indeed serious the question is the funding. If they fund it, they will come. We may hear from an interesting Party Next Week on the show. My prediction is that absentee ballots will decide out of the east state Senate Primary on the democratic side or the congressional primary. A competent effort with absentee ballots can swing the difference in a small turnout primary election. The person who has emerged as the one to conduct absentee ballots is rockys desire auto who ran that for linda City Council Race and his successful council race if im running for congressman, for primary or state senate on the east side im getting a hold of him. Jerry, can we have another state Senate Primary like the southside last time around . We have two really good candidates on the east side and weve got to this sunday, Hillary Clintons blowout win in South Carolina has her looking towards november. Tomorrow this Campaign Goes national. While Bernie Sanders vows to fight on. It would make me so happy to run against donald trump. Bernie sanders joins me this morning. Plus, what a week on the republican side. [ overlapping speakers ] then trump thumps rubio with a surprise endorsement. Theres no one better prepared to provide america with the strong leadership that it needs. As donald trump collects endorsements, the republican establishment approaches panic. Is it too late to stop trump now . Donald trump and senator ted cruz are with me this morning. And when you look at moments like this. A con artist. Youre a choker. Hair force one. Total lightweight. Worst tan in america. Biggest ears ive ever seen. Is it time to ask whether the gop is on the brink of coming apart . My party has gone bat [ bleep ] crazy. Joining me for insight and analysis are charlie cook of the cook political report, heather mcghee, Andrea Mitchell of nbc news and erick erickson
