After already being the target of another crime. It all started in the 29 hundred block of Cottage Grove avenue. In the drake neighborhood. Police say at least one suspect invaded a home there. Around 11 p m. The homeowner chased them out and down the street. Before being shot. The victim was taken to the hospital. No word on any case. The incident prompted a drake bulldog alert. Thats when drake sends out alerts to students living nearby. Police are investigating a deadly shooting in downtown des moines. This occurred just after one yesterday morning. At court avenue and 3rd street. Officers arrived to find 21 year old edmund perez with a gunshot wound. He later died at the hospital. 23 year old andrew hurleyboyd was also shot. And is still being treated. Police havent identified a suspect. But say they have a lot of information from witnesses. It was crowded down there, it was a saturday night on a holiday weekend, it was quite a chaotic scene. The officers that responded, they did a great job securing the crime scene and preserving the evidence and identifying some witnesses, we had several that were transported down to speak to some witnesses theyve provided us with some good information and some great leads. Police say theyll release more information on the case this afternoon. A man charged in connection with the death of his daughter will stand trail beginning today. Joe lopez is charged with first degree murder and child endangerment. Officers arrested lopez back in december. The investigation started in november when 20 month old ruby alvarez was taken to the hospital. She later died. Police say lopez and his Girlfriend Told Police the baby fell and injured herself. But medial experts say there is no way a fall could have fractured her skull and broken her ribs. The trial is set to begin this morning at nine. Windsor heights residents will soon head to the polls. Theyll elect one more person to join threase harms on the city council. Harms beat out an incumbent earlier this month.
