The body of a constructor worker has been recovered after he became trapped in a trench this morning. It happened in a residential neighborhood near the intersection of 5th and adventure land drive. Authorities say 30 year old Justin Jorgenson of colfax was in a trench with an excavating tool when it caved in around him. Jorgenson was worked for jrs excavating which is based out of saint charles. His body was partially buried and it took crews several hour to recovery it due to unstable terrain. 170412 they are currently face a whole with a lot of mud so the shoring is creating some problems as well because of the collapse of the hole falling in sgt Jason Ferguson altoona pd Authorities Say the trench was about 10 to 12 feet deep and did not have a trench wall. Osha regulations require there to be a trench wall in areas more than 5 feet deep. Before the investigation is complete and a citation could be issued jury selection is underway in the trial of a man charged with killing his girlfriends child. Joe Anthony Lopez of des moines is charged with first degree murder and child endangerment resulting in death. In november of 2014, 20monthold ruby alvarez was taken to the hospital with serious injuries a fractured skull and broken ribs. Clive police said lopez lied about how those injuries happened that led to her death. Lopez told officers she fell from a high chair while he was in the bathroom. But investigators said the babys injuries were not consistent with a fall. A des moines woman will stand trial in march for the car crash that killed two men in november. Today 53year old deanna gliem was arraigned at the polk county courthouse. She is charged wth two counts of vehicular homicide by owi and two counts of vehicular homicide by reckless driving. Police say gliem was drunk and speeding when she crashed into another car on 59year old Randy Sonnenburg were killed. Gliems trial date is set for march 7th. The Animal Rescue league of iowa says it strives to save every animal that comes through its doors. Now we have the numbers that show just how many animals are euthanized. Chef d says in the two years hes helped the homeless, his reputation has grown, and so has the program. But theres not enough profit from the business, or donations from the public, to pay the bills and cover the costs of the program. So chef d and his volunteers are asking the public to pitch in on a go fundme page set up this week. Chef d says if hes forced to close his doors for good in february, hes not sure where the people he helps will go. I can walk away hurt but with my head held high. A group of Iowa National guard soldiers is returning from a mission in missouri. Nearly 4dozen Iowa National guard soldiers based in cedar rapids and johnston were deployed to missouri to respond to historic flooding. The soldiers transported water and helped with water purification. The flood waters in missouri are now receding. The water is safe to drink again. And that means the mission is complete. The town of winterset is known for the bridges of Madison County and as john waynes birthplace. Now winterset hopes people will stop by for another reason. Channel 13s roger riley tells us how. This store and others have been involved in a four year effort to do a historic inventory of over 100 buildings in and around the square. Many buildings now marked with a plaque.
