lawyer yielded some interesting findings today. the report shows ryan lamb was underqualified for his job. you may remember lamb for his role in the "secret settlement scandal" legal counsel for services. in that role lamb helped broker some of the deals that paid state employees extra money to not file grievances against the state. an audit released today shows lamb was given 22-thousand dollars in excess pay and benefits while working for the state. the report shows lamb was paid 13- thousand dollars in excessive salary while he was on military leave.... and more than 9-thousand dollars in excessive vacation pay. in addition, the auditor's office couldn't find a copy of lamb's resume on file anywhere. that has lead to questions about whether he had the proper education or experience to hold his position with d- a-s. lamb resigned from state employment last year. current d-a-s director janet phipps says the errors occurred before her tenure. she als says the state could try to recoup that money from lamb. she issued a statement today reading ... "during my tenure as das director, the department has followed state policy on military leave, timesheet approval and proper documentation for new employees as recommended by the auditor." "das will consult with legal counsel regarding reimbursement of gross pay and benefits and excess vacation." it's a brand new facility focused on the health and well-being of women during the prime of their lives. today mercy medical center announced the new "comfort women's center" that will put all women's health services under one roof. "the mercy board of directors had recognized that women after their child-bearing years did not have the kind of coordinated and integrated care that was really necessary." :01-:11 leisha barcus says this is historic for two reasons... first: will be the only center in the state to house all women's services in one building. second is the eight-and-a-half million dollar grant given to mercy to kick-start the project. that's the largest single donation the hospital has ever received... it comes from the comfort family foundation, which has a long history of support for mercy hospitals. the comfort women's health center will be located at the mercy west hospital in clive. "sometimes, if you've heard there's a women's center somewhere, they're often disjointed clinics that are not integrated together, but rather, located either throughout a different building, or down the street. what we've done is we've brought all these specialties together in one area." :01-:19 the center is set to open in early 20-17. while mercy focuses on women's physical health ... another group is focused on their financial well-being. progress iowa and the center for american progress hosted a forum on women's economic security today in des moines. according to the groups ... women are the sole, primary or co-"bread winner" in more than 70-percent of iowa homes. on top of that, they're still the primary caregivers at home. because of that statistic alone, organizers of today's forum say there needs to be more focus on policies and laws that relieve some of the stresses on women. 14:31:07-14:31:23 i think we want people to have a deeper understanding for why these policies are so important for a strong economy here in iowa and around the country .to feel they have a group of people in the state to drive these issues forward over the coming years. among the top priorities for the group ... equal pay for equal work, affordable family healthcare and access to more paid maternity and sick leave. one of the biggest development questions in downtown des moines could finally be answered next week. the question is, "what should be done on walnut street?" the business district formerly served as a hub for dart buses. now that the buses have shifted to a new the city of johnston became the jeb bush was a very strong governor, probably the strongest governor in the history of the state of florida. he was a young guy and i think there were some folks in the legislature that thought they might be able to run over him. that didn't happen. one tax cut wasn't enough- he had to do more. it wasn't enough to have 15,000 kids with school choice in florida, he wanted to have 100,000 kids. if he didn't like a project, it was going to be vetoed. it didn't matter if you were a republican. it didn't matter if you were his best friend. he said: 'this is where we're going, this is how we're going to reform state government...' every politician comes in talking about making change, and generally there's not much change. but governor bush made a lot of changes. he got the nickname veto corleone. if he saw something in the budget that he thought violated his conservative principles, you could guarantee it was gonna get whacked. he vetoed a bunch of my stuff and i was the senate president. the message to washington, d.c., is 'get ready...' because there will be change. central iowa to declare itself a "home base iowa community. the city says it's already seeing results. cities and counties across iowa can become "home base iowa communities" through the "home base iowa" act, signed by governor terry branstad last year. the initiative is meant to attract veterans to the state... part of becoming an h-b-i community means ten percent of businesses in your city must commit to hiring a 20-18... businesses like du-pont pioneer and john deere financial have signed city officials say 10 veterans have been hired by h-b-i businesses in johnston in the last six months... the city also offers an incentive package to veterans that's worth around six thousand dollars, but as other cities in the metro join the wave, mayor paula dierenfeld says johnston will have to stay competitive. "as a result of some other communities becoming home base iowa communities, we're looking to see what they're offering as home base iowa communities, and seeing if there aren't some additional things that we can offer." :01-:12 in the metro, west des moines and grimes have both become home base iowa communities since johnston joined the effort. marijuana could soon be legally grown and consumed in iowa ... thanks to a vote in nebraska this week. let me explain. on tuesday, members of the omaha native american tribe in nebraska approved a series of referendums that give them the authority to grow and use marijuana for medical and recreational purposes on tribal lands. that includes a piece of land in monona county in western iowa. that land was once in nebraska but is now in iowa due to the way the missouri river channel shifted over time. the tribe owns the blackbird bend casino in onawa, iowa. tribal leaders say its too early to decide whether or not marijuana would be sold at the casino. if so that could fuel new tourism to the casino ... and a new threat to other state casinos. ad lib main weather coming up next ... we have this is krystal, and her dream is to be a roller derby girl. we love krystal! we love krystal! oh my god it's jj watt! oh my god! out how you can help a veteran while picking up your eggs, milk and bread theserve their country and protect our freedom. starting today you can thank them ... from the checkout line at the grocery store. today hy-vee re-launched its "homefront" initiative. in the first two years of the program more than a half-a-million dollars has been raised. joining us now to tell us how the initiative works ... and how easy it is to get involved ... is brad waller with hy-vee. what brought down a russian airliner last week ... with hy-vee. what brought down a russian thank you so much. did you say honey? "it wasn't a credit card, it was an american express charge card secured under my personal credit in conjunction with the party. bills would be mailed to me at home. every month i'd go through it - if there was a personal expense, i paid it. if there was a party expense, the party paid it."trouble is, not all the the amex statements from that time period have been made public. there's a two year gap, though rubio's campaign told the tampa bay times those records will be released. rubio's critics believe he's hiding something. "we still don't know what is on those statements of the american express card prior to him becoming speaker, when he had complete control of all of the campaign dollars, florida house campaign dollars. and if he wanted to make it very clear that he has reimbursed the party, then show us."mike fasano, a fellow republican, worked with rubio for years. fasano used to be the majority leader in the florida house..and rubio even called him his mentor -- but not anymore. he now supports jeb bush. "he has no appreciation for the dollars that are being donated to the party or the campaigns." "those are pretty strong statements coming from a fellow republican.
