business today because of a suspicious package. authorities say a woman found a package with a mysterious powder inside. when she tried to wash it off her hand... she told authorities her hands started to tingle. after investigating, crews determined that the substance was clearasil....a form of face wash. employees were allowed to return to work after crews determined there was no real danger. urbandale crews were also called to a gas leak. it happened at the intersection of 100th and douglas around noon. authorities say people started calling them after they smelled gas coming from a construction site. the intersection shut down for a short time while crews repaired the damage. an early morning crash sent a motorcyclist to the hospital this morning. des moines police say the cyclist and a van collided at the intersection of 34- th and university around 7-30. there's no word on the extent of the cyclists injuries... and so for no citations have been issued. the city clerk of defiance is accused of stealing the towns' money. the state auditor's office released a report saying kristin wagner nearly 11-thousand dollars out of from the town's bank account. an investigation found that she used the money to buy personal items and pay bills between march 12-th of 2013 and april 30-th of 2015. according to court records wagner was charged back on april 27-th for theft. she has plead not guilty....her trial is scheduled for january 12-th. the windsor heights city council voted last night to do away with a proposal to merge with the clive fire department. officials say residents and business owners urged the council to vote against the proposal... taxes. the city will now look into hiring more fire fighters. the mayor of knoxville says moving a controversial soldier's memorial out of a city park and onto private property across the street is a "win-win." 23:33:10--26 'were still honoring that piece of art. you know, that memorial its right across the street and the citys not facing litigation of possible millions of dollars that we have to be at risk with potential lawsuit.' the city council voted 3-2 last night to have this memorial moved from young's park to private property. you can see just how the vote broke down. a washington d-c based organization threatened to sue the city if the silhouette of a soldier kneeling at a cross was not been surging in recent weeks... a new survey from public policy polling shows she has support from 57-percent of iowa democrats. that puts her more than 30 points ahead of her closest competitor, bernie sanders. clinton is in iowa trying to find even more support across the state. this afternoon clinton held a town hall meeting in coralville. tonight she will be answering questions from people at grinnell college. that's where political director dave price joins us now live.... if there's such a thing as momentum when you're still three months from the caucuses, hillary clinton has it for the democrats. she was widely praised for her last debate peformance, vice president joe biden said he won't be running against her, two other democrats dropped out...and she's dominated the field in three straight polls in iowa. she's also out with a new ad epidemic of gun violence knows no boundaries. between 88 and 92 people a day are killed by guns we're better than this. the ad's more about its theme...rather than specifics. but clinton knows the democratic base wants changes in gun laws. she also knows bernie sanders...her chief opponent...could be vulnerable among some for not being strong enough on gun changes. that's already led to tension between the two camps. sanders has said people can't just shout about gun changes. that won't bring change. clinton fired back with implications sanders is being sexist by saying she shouldn't shout about this. sanders denies that of course. either way, guns have become a topic. and clinton's supposed to talk about the topic here within the hour. the iowa caucus is still a few months away...but there are several local elections tonight. here in des moines...the mayor's seat and three city council seats are up for grabs. polls are open until 8 so you still have time to vote. tune in tonight at 10 for the results. the city of des moines is campaigning to host a major track event. representatives from the junior olympic track and field championships visited the city today. des moines is a finalist to host the event in 2017. city officials say it would bring in more than 6-thousand athletes and million dollars for the local wanted to have 100,000 kids. if he didn't like a project, it was going to be vetoed. it didn't matter if you were a republican. it didn't matter if you were his best friend. he said: 'this is where we're going, this is how we're going to reform state government...' every politician comes in talking about making change, and generally there's not much change. but governor bush made a lot of changes. he got the nickname veto corleone. if he saw something in the budget that he thought violated his conservative principles, you could guarantee it was gonna get whacked. he vetoed a bunch of my stuff and i was the senate president. the message to washington, d.c., is 'get ready...' because there will be change.
