I would bomb the prp [ bleep ] out. And just wait, there is more. Its beginning to look a lot like christmas. Toning the colors of christmas for last nights game. So why is there so much discussion online . This morning the color blind controversy. And destination 1a. Al is just minutes away from making history for doing the weather this all in all 50 states in a week. All that is left, connecticut and new york. And then well celebrate his victory with a big rokeathon party on the plaza today, today friday, november 13, 2015. Narrator from nbc news, this is today with matt lauer and savannah guthrie, live from studio 1a in Rockefeller Plaza. Good morning. Welcome to today on a friday morning, 50 state, 7 days. I think were holding up very well. Im exhausted watching al. Hes not holding up so well. Hes in stamford, connecticut this morning. Actually looks pretty good. Hes jumping on a commuter train terminal. Hell wrap up this epic soon to be record setting adventure forecasting the weather in all week. So how are you feeling, buddy . Actually me and the crew, were feeling great. Were ready to come home and see our loved ones and you guys, as well. Thanks, al. All right. Well check in with you in a bit. Lets get to a top story. Breaking news out of the pentagon. A u. S. Air strike in syria against the notorious isis executioner seen in numerous broken propaganda videos. Lets get to keir simmons on the story. Reporter good morning. That jihadity john was killed. A senior official says while he was targeted now the out of vengeance, but to demonstrate to isis there is accountability. His voice is infamous. Holding a knife in horrific hostage videos. Jihadi john, mohammed emwazi, was the front man for a string of isis killings. Thousand reports not yet confirmed by the pentagon says he has been killed by u. S. Drone overnight, a senior u. S. Official confirmed the strike. On twitter an activist group from the isis stronghold reported the death of jihadi john. His high profile victims including american journalists. Stevens mother says shes waiting for news. If the got him, great. But it didnt bring my son back. Kuwait born emwazi was a Computer Science graduate turned gang member seen here wearing a Pittsburgh Pirates cap. The team called that sickening. Three hostages described him as sadistic sadistic, one of four british isis guards they called him beatles. An early recruit to isis, the Jihadist Group whose reach sears from syria to north africa. The strike targeting jihadi john comes shortly after the latest attack in lebanon. Jihadi johns family all live here in london. The british Prime Minister just spoke calling jihadi john the isis lead executioner and saying if he has been killed by the u. S. , it was an act of selfdefense. All right. Keir simmons with the breaking news. We want to bring in jeremy barb from oig from the defense department. We know jihad itdy john is the face of brutally. Is this symbolic or something more . This is the biggest blow to isis in the year and a half that weve been undertaking operations against them. He was the face. He was the chief propagandist. But i think he also was an operational commander. He led this hostage taking cell and he himself conducted these murderous operations for the entire world to see. So i think that it is a very significant takedown today. The reports are that he was traveling in a car, he was hit by a drone strike. So what does that tell us about our increasing intelligence on the ground when it comes to isis . Well, these are painstaking operations, they require days and months of operations pulling on all of our sources to pinpoint a terrorist location. Weve gotten very good at these operations. So win we reach deep into Enemy Territory into syria which has air defenses and we put lead right on that target, you know our intel sgeps is ligence is pristine. And were hearing from u. S. Officials that theyre confident he has been hit, but how do they go about making sure that yes, indeed, he was not only the target but that the target was accomplished . Right after the strike, our people will basically go quiet and listen and will watch and will hear what they will say about their own guys, whether theyre saying that hes gone and over the coming hours and days, well able to definitively confirm whether hes been taken off the battlefield. And i actually believe he has. Real quickly, you mentioned hes the chief propagandist for isis. Is it possible his death serves as a recruiting tool for others . Weve asked ourselves that question many times and i think weve determined that its better to take these guys off the battlefield than to let them stay out there and recruit others to their jihad. Jeremy bash, former from the cia and dwecht sdechts of defense. Lets turn to politics. Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton is facing scrutiny about a story from her past that she repeated on the campaign trail this week and it could come up at tomorrows debate. Nbcs Kristen Welker is in des moines on the campaign trail. Reporter good morning. And the stakes couldnt be tries to match that strong first debate performance when she base faces off against her challengers tomorrow night. A new poll shows sclin ton with a 19 point National Lead over Bernie Sanders. Thats down slightly from early october, but still commanding. Clinton has been off the campaign trail for a few days preparing. Meanwhile her rival sanders and omalley are looking to ramp up their performances. Aides say unlike the first debate in which both largely suffered their own policy positions, the candidates will be aggressive about drawing contrasts from clinton. Meanwhile the Clinton Campaign is repeating that in 1975 she looked into joining the marines. Skeptics and some republicans noted it was an unlikely choice for a yale law graduate who had worked on antiwar campaigns.
