Saw yesterday afternoon. The vineyard gusting to 28. Gusting to 21 on nantucket. I dont expect the winds to be as strong today as they were yesterday. See some peak gusts around 30ish as we go through the day. Maybe 35 to 40. But the overall theme here of the next couple day, we still have a breeze. Its just not as strong as what we saw yesterday and last night. Damp start to the day. Kiddos need rain boots versus the new sneakers. Got to keep them fresh. Wait for a dry day. You will not find it the next le breeze through the day. Temperatures running into the low to mid70s. The risk of rip currents is high up and down the new england coastline. Keep that in mind if youre watching some of the surf out there. 3 to 5 feet close to the coastline. Pretty much breaking on the beaches. Offshore winds much bigger than that. The storm bringing heavy rain and strong winds crashing into the coast this morning. Were still feeling the impact on parts of the state. Christa the waves are really just pounding the coast. Lets go to 7s john cuoco. Hes in westport with a look at conditions there. Its definitely till windy. Take a look behind me here. You can see some of those choppy waves coming into shore. It was definitely much more intense yesterday. They had to close a beach here in westport, and they did the same in orleans. Gusts of wind sending the rain sideways as waves were blown out to sea in westport and people parked to take it all in monday. Ever since Hurricane Sandy and irene rolled through, i think a lot of the homeowners in the area just anxious to make sure its nothing that size that rolls through. John on Horseneck Beach, visitors were greeted with high surf and heavy winds. The morning was rough, but it didnt stop people from coming to the beach. The wind on the beach sent towel, hats and bags flying and blowing sand covered the walkway. At least two people ignored the warnings and took a dip before lifeguards called them in. We were just expecting building swells throughout the day, anywhere from four to six feet. We closed the water to swimming john it was the same story in orleans. Heavy winds and con stand rain on nauset beach, the effects of hermine felt into the evening hours on monday. Youre getting sandblasted for sure. I feel like those groups of needles in your face. John tractors rolled on to the beach to pick up the lifeguard stands to strong winds didnt blow them away. Stay away from the ocean. Its an angry sea. John the rip currents were so danus closed the beach and warned people the stay out of the water. Severe rip currents. Any time someone goes in the water, we would have to said our lifesaving personnel out. The lifeguard said high tide was coming in so we needed to come in off the beach. They wouldnt let us stay anymore. So they taped it all off. John were still looking the see what the status of the beaches will be today, if theyll be open, if theyll be closed. Were in the sure just yet, but from the look of it, it doesnt look like much of a beach day christa its not just beaches feeling hermines impact. Some homeowners have a lot of cleaning up to do after strong winds toppled trees and brought down branches. Kris, trees already weak because of the drought, too. Kris it didnt take much to knock them over and cause cleanup problems this morning. A tree crashed into a truck in taunton when it came toppling down. The strong wind knocked that tree over on to this mans work truck. You can see the dependents and and dents and damage. His garage when he heard reports of strong winds and thats when he saw what happened to his truck. I was walking into the garage. As soon as i stepped into the garage, i hear a loud bang. And i came back out, looked, big huge tree branch fell right on top of my truck. Kris good news is no one was inside that vehicle when that tree came crashing down. Strong wind in newton taking down this tree. Mbta crews worked to remove it from the tracks. Green line. No one was hurt during that incident. The New Hampshire Attorney Generals Office investigating a death in danbury. The death happened at a home on caramel drive last night. The incident remains under investigation this morning. Its in the known if the trooper or the other driver, is the person hurt in the crash. Sarah breaking overnight, crews battling a huge fire at a home in narragansett, rhode island. You see heavy flames pouring out of the oceanfront home. Firefighters say strong winds complicated their efforts. They also reported water issues. No one was home at the time. The house reportedly belonged to the late owner of the pawtucket red sox. Figure out how the fire started. Theyre looking into what was found and the motive behind it. Boston Police Concerned about an explosive find at an home. Sunday morning an officer found what is described as a molotov cocktaillike device in their yard. The bottle with a bankrupt rag partially inside. The grass charred but no damage to the officers home. Bpd and boston fire are investigating, trying to determine if this this was a random act or if someone was trying to send a message to this officer. It comes weeks after another investigation looking into whether city officers were officers downtown, in roxbury and east boston returned to their personal vehicles at the end of the shift and found the lug nuts holding on the tires were missing or loosened. After this was found in the officers yard over the weekend, commissioner William Evans released a statement reading, the safety and wellbeing of my officers is always of the highest importance to me. As a result, this is an incident we are taking seriously and investigating accordingly. Anyone with any information on the case is asked to call Boston Police. Investigators say a woman was walking through the greenway early monday morning when a man approached her and assaulted her. Anyone with information is asked to contact police. One firefighter is injured as crews put up a fierce fight at a home that went up in flames figure out how the massive fire started. Crews responding to the scene on thompson street monday afternoon. You can see the intense flames shooting from the roof. One firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation. Officials say a lack of water and strong winds made it hard to put out that fire. Sarah a florida woman is facing charges after shes caught on camera torching a car she thought belonged to her exboyfriend. You can see the 19yearold setting the trunk of the car on fire and then walking away. Police say she thought the car belonged to her exboyfriend, but as it turns out, it did not. Officers were able to track her down after releasing this video. The woman has been charged with arson. A wisconsin Police Officer you can see he slams into the car multiple times and sends it into the median. Four people inside that car were taken into custody. You can see the heavy flames pouring out of this oceanfront home, and fire crews say strong winds complicated their efforts. They also reported some issues with water. No one was home at the time. Now a check of the days other top stories on this tuesday. Some Ferry Service has been region still deals with whats left of hermine. There are also concerns that the storm can lead to erosion on the cape today. Strong winds and heavy rain from what was left of hermine forced officials to close Horseneck Beach in westport and nauset beach in orleans on monday. No word yet on whether those beaches will reopen today. Also, police are investigating after a dangerous device was found near an officers home. This was on sunday morning when the officer said what he found cocktaillike device in his yard. The grass had been burned, but there was no damage to the officers home. Right now were looking into whether the officer was specifically targeted. Sarah Boston Police are investigating a bold breakin. Investigators say someone tried to get enter a north end home through a skylight. Police think he then jumped on to another roof and then tried to break enter a second home. 7s Kris Anderson joins us now with more on how police were finally able to catch up with this guy. Kris they want to track this guy down, obviously, saraho it happened right in the middle of the night, leaving people in that area on alert. Its scary to think someone might be doing that. Thats crazy. Kris people in this north end neighborhood alarmed after man tried to break into several apartments sunday morning but climbing up on to peoples roofs. He went over there and walked around and tried to get in the window. He was yelling. Kris this woman and her husband were sound asleep until they heard a noise outside their window. I guess he yelled from the roof. So we yelled at him to get off the roof. He started trying to open the window, and we have two windows, so he opened the first one, and then i guess he started pushing on the other one and my husband just held the window so it wouldnt break. Kris luckily the rooftop burglar couldnt get in. Someone must have yelled at him, distracted him, and talking to them and stomping on the skylight and banging on the window again. The cops came. Kris Boston Police arrest as 24yearold man from new york who not only tried to get into la this apartment but three others, as well. People around here say crime doesnt happen often. Definitely a little frightening to think about someone potentially doing that. Kris no one was hurt during these attempted breakins. That suspect, though, is currently behind bars facing several charges. Wells fargo and Barclays Capital have agreed to pay more than this lawsuit with 38 studios. If you take a look behind me here, we can see some of these small, rolling waves. Yesterday it was a much different story. In fact, they had to close a beach here in westport. And in orleans, as well. There was heavy wind and on westport and nauset beach in orleans. The effects of hermine felt into the evening hours monday. Both beaches were closed because officials felt it became too dangerous to have anyone in the water. During the middle of the afternoon, waves hit eight feet in orleans and westport. High winds on the beach sent towel, hats and bags flying, and blowing sand covered the walkways. As of today, we dont know the status just yet of the beaches, we dont know if they will be open or closed. Christa also this morning, at attleboro woman facing charges after police say she hit a jogger with her car in seekonk while she was driving drunk. Police say mary elliott hit a 60yearold man on route 44 and drove off. But investigators say two witnesses chased down the 33yearold in East Providence before officers eventually took her into custody. The jogger meantime suffering lifethreatening injuries. John on Horseneck Beach, visitors were greeted with high surf and heavy winds. The morning was rough, but it didnt stop people from coming to the beach. The wind on the beach sent towels, hats, and bags flying, and blowing sand covered the walkways. At least two people ignored the warnings and took a dip before lifeguards called them in. We were just expecting feet. Maybe a little bit bigger occasionally. We closed the water to swimming and surf, as well, today. John it was the same story in orleans. Heavy winds and constant rain on nauset beach, the effects of hermine felt into the evening hours on monday. Its really windy. Youre getting sandblasted for sure. I feel like those groups of needles in your face. John tractors rolled on to the beach to pick up the lifeguard stands to strong winds didnt blow them away. Stay away from the ocean. Its an angry sea. John courage the middle of the afternoon, waves hit heights of eight feet. The rip currents were so dangerous that officials closed the beach and warned people the stay out of the water. Severe rip currents. Any time someone goes in the water, we would have to send our lifesaving personnel out. The lifeguard said high tide was coming in so we needed to come in off the beach. They wouldnt let us stay anymore. So they taped it all off. John right now were still theyll be open, if theyll be closed. When we get that information, well bring it right to you. Lets go now to 7s Kris Anderson with more on these strong winds. Kris, these trees already stressed because of the drought. Kris they are dry, christa, so it didnt take much to bring them down. The owner of a truck w walked outside. It slammed right into his vehicle. Strong winds knocked the tree into the truck causing some dents and damage. The owner says he came out the actually check on his garage when he heard reports of a strong wind. Thats when he noticed the damage. I was walking into the garage. As soon as i stepped enter the garage. I hear a loud bang. And i came back out, looked, big huge tree branch fell right on kris good news here is no one was inside that truck when that branch came crashing down on top of it. Strong winds in newton taking down this tree. Mbta crews had to work to remove it from the track, but it landed on the overhead wire at the woodman stop on the green line, so it made it a little tough to get it removed. The New Hampshire Attorney Generals Office investigating a death in danville. According to the union leader, the death hap last night. The incident remains under investigation this morning. The accident happened near exit 18. Its not known if the trooper or the other driver is the person who was hurt in the crash. Christa also breaking overnight, crews battling quite a large fire at a home in narragansett, rhode island. See heavy flames coming out on this oceanfront property. Firefighters also say strong winds complicated their effort, as well. They also had recorded trouble with water. No one was at home at the time, and the house reportedly belonged to the late owner of the pawtucket red sox. Sarah right now Boston Police investigating a frightening find. Jennifer sarah, it was thrown on to the front lawn. No one was hurt, but the home belongs to a city Police Officer. Its unclear if the person who threw it knew that at the time, but plos police are taking this very seriously. Boston Police Concerned about an explosive find at an officers home. Sunday morning an officer found what is described as a molotov cocktaillike device in their yard. The bottle intact with what the grass charred but no damage to the officers home. Bpd and boston fire are investigating, trying to determine if this this was a random act or if someone was trying to send a message to this officer. It comes weeks after another investigation looking into whether city officers were possibly targeted. This one centered on three times officers downtown, in roxbury and east boston returned to their personal vehicles at the end of the shift and found the lug nuts holding on the tires were missing or loosened. After this was found in the ce commissioner William Evans released a statement reading, the safety and wellbeing of my officers is always of the highest importance to me. Crews responded to the scene here on kaufman street monday afternoon, and you can see the intensive flames shooting from the roof. One firefighter was treated for smoke inha ration. Caught on camera, vandals toppling over this iconic rock formation thats a landmark out in oregon. A group of people knocked over this famous rock on an oregon beach last week. Its been photographed many park Officials Say they didnt initially think people were responsible for this damage. But then they saw this cell phone video and, of course, that proved otherwise. There you see it. Witnesses say theyre just heartbroken by this. I guess for me it defines what a pacific city is. That rock, thats what everybody takes a picture of, the photo. They maybe would want the share that with their children and their grand dhirn and how they can only see that rock through a memory. So a witness to all this said the vandals claim the rock was a friends broke their leg jumping off of it. So this is really a fixture. Its basically a sandstone sculpture.
