police in auburn, new hampshire are investigating a report of shots fired and a burglary. this is all happenings if in put on lockdown for a short time. they say that threat has since cleared. we will continue to follow this breaking news and bring you updates as soon as they come in. also breaking at noon: the secretary of defense suspends an effort to force thousands of california national guard members to repay enlistment bonuses. the pentagon was collecting the bonuses from more than 6,000 soldiers who were overpaid to enlist and serve in iraq and afghanistan at the height of the wars. the collection efforts sparked strocr secretary ash carter is ordering the pentagon to suspend that effort. >> christa: let's go to some video you will see on just one station today. police say a man was following after a teenager in roxbury and then tried to snatch her. this girl was on her way to the bus stop when this happened. let's head out and see more of the exclusive video. jennifer eagan is live for us now in roxbury. >> reporter: people who have seen this video say it is scary to see the man walking the public's help on this case. parents in roxbury... if you don't see me, you stay on the school bus. >> reporter:... keeping a close eye on their children this morning. after boston police say a man grabbed a teenage girl walking to her bus stock exchange. >> completely baffled. this is my daughter's bus stop. i was like, oh, my gosh. >> reporter: this surveillance video captured the seconds before it happened. the man identified by boston police as the suspect, parks his car along blue hill avenue and gets ou walking steps behind the 13-year-old girl. 7 news is not showing the girl in order to protect her identity. neighbors heard her yell for help around 6:15 yesterday morning. >> this was like a sound that i have never heard. it made me jump up and go to the window. >> some guy grabbed her from the back. she kicked him in the leg. she started screaming. some person came to her rescue. the guy fled. report tt girl's step father says she is upset but not nervous. you know, she is afraid not to leave the house. but it is not going to stop her from going to school. >> reporter: families are hoping someone recognize it is man and tells police. they say they are on the lookout. >> i'm going to watch to make sure the kids are safe. make sure there is not predators out here lurking and trying to snatch our children. >> it's scary. really scary. this is my neighborhood. this is what's happening in my neighborhood. >> reporter: no arrests have been made at this point. the girl's step father ss from now on to make sure she gets there safely. >> sarah: a devastating scene in evident. fierce flames tear through a triple-decker home and then spread. several came backing on the back door. everett firefighters say when they showed up, the porches were on fire. and there were explosions. at one point, part of the burning building came down towards warning from framingham state university. a student there has tested positive for mumps. now, the student has been in looking into howl he became infected. this is a virus that can spread through the air. it is popping up in other parts of new england as well. in fact, the university of new hampshire says three cases of the mumps have been linked to that school. >> sarah: in quincy, an elementary school is responding after a bus packed with children goes on a terrifying crash course. today, school administrators are stepping in to help students feel safe. john cuoco has the latest. >> father after they got into an argument in their house. anderson admitted to investigators that he attacked his father with a hammer. prosecutors say anderson's father had taken out a restraining order against his son a few years ago. but it is unclear whether that had still been in place. >> christa: harvard coming the "globe" is reporting that students and school officials are upset over a report that the team compiled a sexually explicit scouting report that assigned ratings to women's soccer team recruits. now, the report was published monday in the harvard crimson. the dean of the school says the actions run counter to the values of harvard university. also at harvard, dining workers are expected to vote today on a proposed deal that would officially bring an end to tir announcing yesterday they reached a tentative agreement with the school after nearly three weeks of walking the picket line. >> sarah: a man accused of baefting his husky at north station. witnesses say that dog morning. thanks to the on-shore winds. that will pick up. almost looks like a beach day. if temperatures were a mere 40 degrees warmer. right? it is out of the north. northwest. steady enough at about 10-15 miles an hour that it's producing a windchill factor. yes, it is 46 in boston. feels more like 42. even out there in worcester, that 40 degrees reading feeling like 31 at this point. more clouds across the cape. have had a lot of ocean-effect cloud cover. didn't see that up there in marblehead. you look off to the east there. you see it into the gulf of maine. a few more clouds backing in along the coastline tonight. especially lip across the cape. maybe isolate sprinkles or showers across tomorrow afternoon, clouds thickening up. rain starts to break on out. there is going to be enough cold air or even into worcester county, wouldn't be surprised to see a few wet snowflakes or sleet pellets mixed in before the flip completely over to rain. not expecting the accumulation of snow or sleet from worcester county east to boston. however, out there into berkshires, north western connecticut, maybe in the hillier terrain, some minor accumulations. several inches likely in the higher terrain of vermont. perhaps, some of the mountains in maine picking up half a look at the wall of rain that works on through overnight tomorrow into friday morning. that will provide us with a good inch, to an inch and a half of water. in terms of the snowfall totals, again, from worcester county east, don't really expect much. you start getting up there near north adams, southern vermont, could be several inches in the highest terrain. here are the rain totals. there will be a gusty wind that develops along the south coast of new england. more on that. over to danielle. >> danielle: thanks, chris. along with all of that rain, we will see some wind, too. for tomorrow evening, it is just breezy. overnight is when those winds really pick up. you can see these reds along the coast. this is where we can see winds gusting anywhere from 30-40 miles an hour. especially out along the cape and the islands, too. it is going to be very windy friday morning. bum we do still need the rain. even though so far this month, we have picked up a little bit over four inches. for the first time, we are above average since february. did the entire summer. the average temperature, hard to believe if you walk outside today, our average for the month is almost three degrees above where we should be. we were in the 80's last week. the 40's right now, definitely chilly. we are going to end this pink area, i don't expect any accumulation. could have some minor accumulations out through the berkshires. that rain, heavy at times thursday night. more on the forecast coming up. >> sarah: police in auburn, new hampshire are investigating a report of shots fired and a burglary. this is all happenings if in put on lockdown for a short time. they say that threat has since cleared. we will continue to follow this breaking news and bring you updates as soon as they come in. also breaking at noon: the secretary of defense suspends an effort to force thousands of california national guard members to repay enlistment bonuses. the pentagon was collecting the bonuses from more than 6,000 soldiers who were overpaid to enlist and serve in iraq and afghanistan at the height of the wars. the collection efforts sparked strocr secretary ash carter is ordering the pentagon to suspend that effort. >> christa: let's go to some video you will see on just one station today. police say a man was following after a teenager in roxbury and then tried to snatch her. this girl was on her way to the bus stop when this happened. let's head out and see more of the exclusive video. jennifer eagan is live for us now in roxbury. >> reporter: people who have seen this video say it is scary to see the man walking the public's help on this case. parents in roxbury... if you don't see me, you stay on the school bus. >> reporter:... keeping a close eye on their children this morning. after boston police say a man grabbed a teenage girl walking to her bus stock exchange. >> completely baffled. this is my daughter's bus stop. i was like, oh, my gosh. >> reporter: this surveillance video captured the seconds before it happened. the man identified by boston police as the suspect, parks his car along blue hill avenue and gets ou walking steps behind the 13-year-old girl. 7 news is not showing the girl in order to protect her identity. neighbors heard her yell for help around 6:15 yesterday morning. >> this was like a sound that i have never heard. it made me jump up and go to the window. >> some guy grabbed her from the back. she kicked him in the leg. she started screaming. some person came to her rescue. the guy fled. report tt girl's step father says she is upset but not nervous. you know, she is afraid not to leave the house. but it is not going to stop her from going to school. >> reporter: families are hoping someone recognize it is man and tells police. they say they are on the lookout. >> i'm going to watch to make sure the kids are safe. make sure there is not predators out here lurking and trying to snatch our children. >> it's scary. really scary. this is my neighborhood. this is what's happening in my neighborhood. >> reporter: no arrests have been made at this point. the girl's step father ss from now on to make sure she gets there safely. >> sarah: a devastating scene in evident. fierce flames tear through a triple-decker home and then spread. several families are left homeless. now we are hearing from a woman who was able to make a quick escape. victoria warren has details. >> reporter: fire tearing through the night sky. one everett home burning and then it quickly spread to a second home. everybody, kids, families. >> reporter: tears of relief from jodi who was on the third floor. she and her autistic son were both sleeping. the neighbors came backing on the back door. everett firefighters say when they showed up, the porches were on fire. and there were explosions. at one point, part of the burning building came down towards firefighters. >> a piece of siding fell off. burned through my two and a >> reporter: no one was hurt. for that, everyone is thankful. >> grateful for everybody right now. report tt damage to both buildings, extensive. that has displaced several families. as for the cause of the fire, that is something that is still under investigation. in everett, victoria warren, 7 news. >> christa: a word of warning from framingham state university. a student there has tested positive for mumps. now, the student has been in looking into howl he became infected. this is a virus that can spread through the air. it is popping up in other parts of new england as well. in fact, the university of new hampshire says three cases of the mumps have been linked to that school. >> sarah: in quincy, an elementary school is responding after a bus packed with children goes on a terrifying crash course. today, school administrators are stepping in to help students feel safe. john cuoco has the latest. >> reporter: school bus finally pulled away from the quincy home it barrele on tuesday. >> it sounded like dump trucks flipping over. that is how bad. i heard the noise. it was like, boom, boom, boom. >> worcester. 29 degrees. the coldest since the 26 you hit back in mid-april there. in boston, the 37 matching the 37 set in april of this year. it's been a while since temperatures have dipped this their frost and freeze so far this fall. up to 40 in worcester. 46 in boston. add a couple more degrees. that is where we will finish throughout the day. you factor in the wind. which is still steady. between 8-18 miles an hour across the area. you get the windchill factor. windchills in the upper 30's and low 40's. it does feel like 31 in worcester. that is what you dress for. outside, it is a 20er's in boston. here we go with the next storm system that will approach new england. right now, that is all rain across the midwest. however, there is just enough cold their place that as we get into tomorrow afternoon, initially, the precipitation is going to start as snow through portions of upstate new york and western new england. maybe even a snowflake or a sleet pellet mixed in through worcester county. the transition over to rain will happen. in fact, by the evening, when down in the form of rain. at times, heavy rain. in terms of any snow accumulation, worcester county east, i don't think that is going to happen. higher terrain in the berkshires, up through vermont and northern new england, you will likely see the accumulations ifs... most snow likely falling in portions of upstate new york as well as northern maine. rainfall totals, give or take, about an inch or so of rain. heavy amounts are possible locally. a wind that develops along the for more on that, over to at times. 46 right now in boston. 40 in worcester. cape. isolated sprinkle once in a while across the outer cape. tomorrow, mid-40's on average. that is it. we will trend back to near seasonal levels by the weekend. the best chance of rain works in tomorrow. especially in the afternoon. and overnight. could get the heaviest of the rain. then early on friday, let's say, 7:00 a.m. after we begin to see this system wind on down. although, technically friday morning, at 3:00 in the morning, i do expect there will be some pouring rain out there. we talk about mainly a rain event. brief period with some wet snowflakes. especially across the higher terrain of worcester county. not expecting too much accumulation in this area. if you work your way across the berkshires and up into the higher terrain of vermont, some minor accumulations do occur. healthy amounts of snow in northern new england and in the mountain areas. we will talk more on that. the 7-day forecast ahead. >> christa: a man see if they have any footage of a missing woman. according to the lowell sun, officers believe surveillance cameras captured the woman sunday afternoon an hour after she was last seen. about 50 people attended a vigil last night, placing for her safe return. aha charges. accused of murdering his father. the 25-year-old alex anderson appeared in court tuesday. prosecutors say anderson killed his father after they got into an argument in their house. anderson admitted to investigators that he attacked his father with a hammer. prosecutors say anderson's father had taken out a restraining order that the team compiled a sexually explicit scouting report that assigned ratings to women's soccer team recruits. now, the report was published monday in the harvard crimson. the dean of the school says the actions run counter to the values of harvard university. also at harvard, dining workers are expected to vote today on a proposed deal that would officially bring an end to tir announcing yesterday they reached a tentative agreement with the school after nearly three weeks of walking the picket line. >> sarah: a man accused of baefting his husky at north station. witnesses say that dog morning. thanks to the on-shore winds. that will pick up. almost looks like a beach day. if temperatures were a mere 40 degrees warmer. right? it is out of the north. northwest. steady enough at about 10-15 miles an hour that it's producing a windchill factor. yes, it is 46 in boston. feels more like 42. even out there in worcester, that 40 degrees reading feeling like 31 at this point. more clouds across the cape. have had a lot of ocean-effect cloud cover. didn't see that up there in marblehead. you look off to the east there. you see it into the gulf of maine. a few more clouds backing in along the coastline tonight. especially lip across the cape. maybe isolate sprinkles or showers across tomorrow afternoon, clouds thickening up. rain starts to break on out. there is going to be enough cold air or even into worcester county, wouldn't be surprised to see a few wet snowflakes or sleet pellets mixed in before the flip completely over to rain. not expecting the accumulation of snow or sleet from worcester county east to boston. however, out there into berkshires, north western connecticut, maybe in the hillier terrain, some minor accumulations. several inches likely in the higher terrain of vermont. perhaps, some of the mountains in maine picking up half a look at the wall of rain that works on through overnight tomorrow into friday morning. that will provide us with a good inch, to an inch and a half of water. in terms of the snowfall totals, again, from worcester county east, don't really expect much. you start getting up there near north adams, southern vermont, could be several inches in the highest terrain. here are the rain totals. there will be a gusty wind that develops along the south coast of new england. more on that. over to danielle. >> danielle: thanks, chris. along with all of that rain, we will see some wind, too. for tomorrow evening, it is just breezy. overnight is when those winds really pick up. you can see these reds along the coast. this is where we can see winds gusting anywhere from 30-40 miles an hour. especially out along the cape and the islands, too. it is going to be very windy friday morning. bum we do still need the rain. even though so far this month, we have picked up a little bit over four inches. for the first time, we are above average since february. did the entire summer. the average temperature, hard to believe if you walk outside today, our average for the month is almost three degrees above where we should be. we were in the 80's last week. the 40's right now, definitely chilly. we are going to end
