Reporter the Tropical Storm could become a hurricane by the time it officially makes landfall sometime tonight. We will see a lot of rain. Especially on the east, the Southeast Side of this storm. Reporter and if Tropical Storm hermine does strengthen into a hurricane, it will be the first to make landfall in florida in more than a decade. There is some good news. It looks like this storm is going to go pretty fast once it hits land. Going to go pretty fast through the state. The big question is how this will impact us here this weekend. Chris absolutely. It may move fast across florida. The concern is that it stalls out across the midatlantic coastline early next week. There is the Tropical Storm. It looks better organized than the satellite and radar presentation. Likely to become a category one hurricane just before landfall. The forecast consistent. The pattern is consistent through basically, the North Carolina coastline. Notice how tight that cone is. Once you get beyond that, we are talking sunday, monday, and tuesday. Look at the spread. That is because this system gets cut off. High pressure to the north blocks it. Right now, most indications are that it gets blocked off. Maybe a couple hundred miles south of new england. And could days before sliding back out to sea. How close it gets to new england will really dictate how much wind and rain we see. I do at least expect some rain out of this coming in here beginning late sunday into monday itself. If it stays far south in that track, we have the chance of some rain. In terms of wind speeds, if it gets a little bit closer there, we could have some gusts. 4050 miles an hour for the cape and the islands astronomically low tide. Christa active in the tropics this time of year, isnt it . This could bring some rain to our area. Chris late sunday, sunday night into monday. The potential for some rain moving on. In still a long way to go to get there. Here is the storm. Tropical storm hermine. Moving toward the northern half of florida. More specificly, mere the big bend area. And over toward apalachicola. Likely, making landfall late hurricane. Typically, when we see storms make a northeasterly turn, they continue on that path. The issue this goround is that we have Strong Canadian High Pressure building in. And it is almost going to bridge off this path out to sea. With this area of High Pressure. So the High Pressure blocks it from going out to sea. And with that in mind, this storm will slow down significantly if not stall and kind of loop around and wobble around. Of new england and just off the midatlantic coastline. So its critical see where that cutoff is. Where this stalls out. If it is close to the coastline, then we have to introduce gusty winds as well as, you know, more consistent rains. Farther off to the south, then we are talking minimal impacts in terms of some little rain and just a few breezy conditions out there at times. Now, there is a wide range of opportunity, you know, for that forecast to go awry in the reason for that is where does this area of High Pressure block off and stall out . It is very tight the next few days. Until you get off the carolina coastline. Then this becomes a circle. That is huge wide margin of error. Most of the models have been consistent the last day or so. Keeping this right around here in the area. A couple hundred miles south of us. Nast would still mean some rain possible and some gusty winds. Especially across the cape and the islands. Night. And into monday. Tracking some rain. We are right now. No question about that. Some of the rain continues to slide off to the east. We go through the rest of the forecast for today. I think the best chance this afternoon for some scattered showers and a rumble of thunder and a downpour would be across southeastern massachusetts. 74 in boston right now. Lowering humidity from northwest to southeast throughout the evening hours. So it will turn more comfortable overnight tonight. We will lose the mugginess out there. Any breaks of sunshine, more then tomorrow, a mix of sun and clouds, breezy. Isolated popup shower. Much of the day is dry. Mid to upper 70s. For a recap on the summer, over to danielle. Danielle yeah. Hard to believe it is already september. August as wrapping up as the warmest on record. Our average august temperature, around 72 degrees. We were up above 76. So snagging the number one spot from 1988 there. It was warm. It was dry. All these orange boxes, these are days when our temperatures were above average. Again, we month above normal. Our average High Temperature, almost 85 degrees. So five degrees above where we should be. And for meteorological summer, it was the fifth warmest on record. So this is the Drought Monitor updated today. And now almost 23 of the state pretty much almost everyone inside 495 in an extreme drought. We do need any rain we can get. June, july, and august, meteorological summer also wrapping up as the driest on record. Inches of rain. On average, we should see more than ten inches. Tracking some rain outside right now. It is much needed. For more on that, chris, back to you. Chris you need more than what we are getting outside. Many times just picking up a tenth, twotenths of an inch of rain. Cape cod, your forecast. You are fine on saturday. Sunday, the best chance of the gusty winds and showers developing will come on. In as this system emerges back to the south of us, the waters are warm. It could contain quite a punch here. As we watch this tropical system evolve. E tropical. Bottom line, there is a potent storm south of us. The highest risk of beach erosion and coastal flooding extends from long island down into the midatlantic. Up here, a modest amount of coastal flooding in the southfacing islands. Low tides astronomically speaking. A lot of eastern massachusetts will do okay with this. We will keep an eye on it. Sarah still ahead, if you are looking to get a kelly ayotte thanks, buddy. Kelly voiceover im kelly ayotte. And when i take the plate for New Hampshire. We have seen flash flooding because of this storm. In the area. And many residents are worried about whats going happen here today. And in the upcoming days to come. And while the storm isnt expected to last very long, it is expected to pack a punch. Which is why local officials and residents are preparing for the worst. Some of what we have seen from Tropical Storm hermine. Jolt of oh, my goodness. My biggest concern is that people who are in storm surge evacuation zones and told to evacuate wont get out. Reporter with most of the state under a state of emergency, governor rick scott announced the closure of all state offices until it passes. This, as residents scramble for sandbags. More than 11,000 filled in ocala in two days. Getting ready. Getting ready. Got the sand. North sarasota county, south of tampa, it is easier for some to travel roads by kayak rather than by car. Reporter included in the evacuations are an Animal Shelter in jacksonville and a hospital in bradenton. Whats to come. Reporter and if this this storm makes landfall as a hurricane, it will be the first to do so in florida in 11 years. Now, if the storms continues to move north, it will bring its threat to residents living along the eastern coast of the u. S. Now back to you. Christa the storm is likely to make its way, as we are been talking, up the east coast. Here is Chris Lambert with that. Chris that will depend on the track, chris tamplt looks like it would be later sunday into monday. The best chance for us to see some wind and rain out of this. Tropical storm hermine, 65mileperhour winds moving northeast, northeast right now. It reemerges here off the midatlantic coastline. You note from sunday into tuesday, there is not much movement. So once it gets in this position, High Pressure is going to block it in it is going to wobble around for a couple of days before it eventually scoots out to sea. It is very important to figure out where exactly is that cutoff. You know, if it is several hundred miles to the south of us, stalls down here, then we dont see a whole lot of wind or rain out of the storm system late sunday into monday. If it is a closer approach to the new england coastline, you know, maybe 50, 100 miles south of us, it would be more impactful in terms of dragging in some strong winds as well as some heavy rain. Sunday night into monday would be the opportunity to pick up on some stronger winds. As well as some heavier rain. Especially for the cape and the islands.
