A South Carolina deputy caught on camera violent lip throwing a student from her desk is being relieved of his duties. Sources are telling nbc that ben fields, the School Resource officerst, will not keep his job after this. We do know that the f. B. I. And the u. S. Justice department are involved in this investigation. The cell phone video that you are seeing here shows the deputy dragging her from the desk, flipping her on to the floor. He says she was being disruptive and refused to leave the classroom. The sheriff overseeing the deputy says the video showed the student punching the officer first. Ben fields and another School Officer are also facing a lawsuit for an incident with a student back in 2013. That suit claims they unfairly and recklessly target africanamerican students suspected of being in gangs. As we talk about this, we want to go live right now to a Sheriffs DepartmentConference News conference going on right now. This is richard county. Lets listen in. To say that this was not properly investigated and handled by authorities, it needed to be handled. The f. B. I. Is the most trusted and respected Law Enforcement agency in this state and probably in the world. And thats why i turned to them and asked them to conduct a full and thorough investigation to see if there was any criminal violation. And the f. B. I. Accepted. That also contacted the u. S. Attorneys office and asked them to be part of that. And the Justice Department be part of looking into these actions also. Our u. S. Attorney william nettles agreed to that. The f. B. I. And Civil Rights Division has initiated the investigation. It was started yesterday. They have already had it full swing. We are fully cooperating with them to. Make sure that they have everything that may the need we took statements from the teacher and the administrator that was present this incident started with a very disruptive student in a class. The student was not allowing the teacher to teach and was not allowing the students to learn. She was very disruptive. She was disrespectful. And she started this whole incident. With her actions. She refused to leave the class, as directed by the teacher. She refused to follow his instructions. He called for assistance. The School Administrator got there. She was africanamerican. He attempted to get her to leave the class also. She refused his instructions. Him. All the while, the students are still in the class. They are supposed to be there learning. Jadiann all right. The county sheriff leon lott in South Carolina talking about that dramatic cell phone video that we have been reporting on this week showing this officer dragging a student out of the desk. We do know, again, he has been relieved of his duties. Again, a federal investigation is under way. The u. S. Justice department launching a civil rights investigation. We also know that the f. B. I. Is investigating as well. There you hear the sheriff talking about what touched off this whole confrontation. Reporter well, governor baker asked for the independent investigation. He tells us he does expect to give his reaction to the findings when that report is released. Bella bond is the little girl who we came to know as baby doe after her body was found on a beach in winthrop. We later learned who she was and that her mother had some involvement with the state department of children and families. This report will look at whether dcf or any other agency might have missed any red flags in that case. Bellas mother rachelle bond locked up, facing charges in bellas death. The boyfriend charged with murder. Rachelle bond is an accessory after the fact. Governor baker says he looks forward to hearing what the independent office of child advocate has to say about how dcf handled this case. You see the walls of this older Apartment Building that last night, went up in flames. Fierce flames. It was devastating. Reporter mad dash to get out alive. I looked downstairs. I saw the backdoor. It was just like lit up. Reporter dozens left homeless now. I thought i was going to lose all my stuff. That is everything i had. Reporter the fire started tuesday night. Many residents were in bed. My mom was sleeping. She literally came and reporter Bernadette Guzman moved in three months ago. Her parents and an aunt also lived here. The flames so intense, firefighters were forced to battle the fire from the street. A trapped resident pulled from the building by a ladder crew. Now with cleanup under way, outside the gutted apartment, bernadette who lost her home and belongings is just glad her family is safe. Im taking one day at a time. Reporter jadiann, there was no one at the bus stop to pick up this little boy. So the school says its policy means the bus driver was supposed to take that little fiveyearold back to school. Instead that, didnt happen. He tried crossing this busy street and got hit. A fiveyearold boy hit by a car moments after he stepped off his school bus. The sights and sounds made amanda rivera, a certified nursing assistant pull over and help. He was trying to get up. They were trying to take his bookbag off. I was like, no, you cannot move him. We have to keep him comfortable. I laid down. And i started doing abcs. Im like, look at me down here. He kept trying to get up.
