this entire area is closed off while they work. we know the pilots of the plane has been taken to hospital. you can see the wreckage left behind on the street here. debris smalled all over the -- sprawled all over the street. the plane went down around 3:40 this afternoon. aircraft was trying to land at the airport. two people were on board. we don't know the condition yet of the other passenger. this happened on brewer street and main street. urban city street in east hartford. there are road closures. we're hearing from a witness who was there when the plane went down saying the pilot jumped out of the plane while it was still in the air. >> driving and all of a sudden i saw a plane coming in my right side. really low and i knew he wasn't going to make it and i stopped at that point. i saw the plane come down, hit the wires. then hit a pole. then he smashed into i was stopped and thought the lines were going to hit me so i gunned it and got out of the way. i heard a lady screaming so i pulled back around. she was' already. she came to the office but she in shock and she was transported to the hospital. i know the pilot jumped out of the plane. and suffered a came down in a very busy area. video just starting to come n. you can see there a lot of flames. there is heavy smoke, too. >> ryan: crews there are on ott scene. brandon gunnoe has the latest on the story. >> reporter: it was a fiery scene on the busy road as you just saw in east hartford. you can see in the video smoke and flames pouring from the small plane crews are on the scene right now. this entire area is closed off while they work. we know the pilots of the plane has been taken to hospital. you can see the wreckage left behind on the street here. debris smalled all over the -- sprawled all over the street. the plane went down around 3:40 this afternoon. aircraft was trying to land at the airport. two people were on board. we don't know the condition yet of the other passenger. this happened on brewer street and main street. urban city street in east hartford. there are road closures. we're hearing from a witness who was there when the plane went down saying the pilot jumped out of the plane while it was still in the air. >> driving and all of a sudden i saw a plane coming in my right side. really low and i knew he wasn't going to make it and i stopped at that point. i saw the plane come down, hit the wires. then hit a pole. then he smashed into i was stopped and thought the lines were going to hit me so i gunned it and got out of the way. i heard a lady screaming so i pulled back around. she was' already. she came to the office but she in shock and she was transported to the hospital. i know the pilot jumped out of the plane. and suffered a
