New security chips causing some credit card controversy. They were installed to help prevent fraud, but retailers and shoppers say they eat up a lot of time at the register. And some say the feature doesnt really provide extra security. The road from swipe cards to chip cards has been a bumpy ride for many shoppers. It takes so long. It takes forever. Ive left it in there and the other person is like, hey, come back. Only some places have it. You never know if youre supposed to insert it or not. The industry says fake cards account for nearly half of all fraud. Thieves at this point do not know how to counterfeit the chip thats on your card. Therefore this eliminates the counterfeit cards at the brick and mortar stores. Reporter visa says counterfeit fraud is down 35 with stores with chip rrs internet fraud. Thieves can still use your card online to rack up big charges and theres the cost of buying chip readers. 30 billion nationwide, too much for some small business. She says processing checks would also take up to three times as long. At that point im losing a lot of revenue because the long delays in checkout lines, too.
