from the scene. after weeks of speculation it was heading overseas to save millions on taxes, it appears deerfield-based walgreens is staying put, keeping it's headquarters here in the u-s. randi deerfield based giant would move overseas. walgreen's is not expected to reincorporate the headquarters, a company that walgreen's has been in the process of acquiring for more than a year. the move would have saved them significantly if switzerland maintained much lower tax rates but since the corporate inversion has opened the company to significant criticism including from senator dick durbin he announced his support of the development last night outside the drug store at fourth and north michigan also been critical of the deal with the pharmaceutical company. last week they announced a new company headquarters in the u.s. tax to the island of jersey. yesterday a letter was sent to president missing him to use executive authority to limit tax breaks associated with inversion. walgreen's will be robert rewarded with customer loyalty and the decision to stay. >> it's great news for walgreen's and for america. what we've learned over the last weeks is that direction of and said the guy was too fast they could not catch him. >>those men say they saw the suspect in the same area on monday morning but police did not catch him. he remains on the loose and is described as a black male in his 20s, six foot three with corn rows or dreads and a goatee. he was wearing light blue jeans and a light grey t- shirt. last night in chicago and across the country ... neighborhoods came together to push for safer streets. its called national night out.. a partnership between police and residents... to stand up against crime. mayor rahm emanuel showed up at the festivities in the bronzeville neighborhood. he says he believes these events are important to help stop violence in the city. >> through the neighbors is how we bring safety to the streets of chicago. >>along with speaking out against violence... the event gives communities a way to see police as their *partners against crime. the event was started 30 years ago, to increase community participation in crime-fighting strategies by local police departments. and this is what it looked like at a "national night out" event in gary, indiana, where there's been an increase in murders. the event last night was in honor of officer jeffrey westerfield... who was killed in his patrol car last month. gary's mayor named a new top cop just a week ago.. after the resignation of the police chief. a u-s army general becomes the highest-ranking casualty of the war in afghanistan... and the latest victim of a green on blue attack. major general harold greene was killed when a gunman wearing an afghan army uniform opened fire at a military training academy near kabul. 15 other soldiers were wounded, including 8 americans. the taliban claimed responsibility for the attack. >> to this tragic incident is a painful reminder that our servicemen and women are still serving and sacrificing in afghanistan and they are facing significant risks. >>there have been more than 85 green on blue attacks by afghan soldiers on american personnel during the war. the cease fire between israel and hamas continues, after getting through its first day. no rockets were fired as the 72-hour humanitarian truce remains in place. that's giving the red cross time to help civilians as they return to their neighborhoods. about 19-hundred palestinians have been killed in this conflict. israeli officials arrived in cairo last night for indirect negotiations with palestinian representatives. israel's military says it accomplished its mission of destroying underground tunnels that hamas fighters use to cross the border. a boy is recovering from plastic surgery after he was attacked by a pit bull. the dog attacked six year old armani mc-kinnis at a birthday party at 74-th and champlain monday. this picture shows him at comer children's hospital, with a bandaged face and a superman toy by his side. he remains in intensive care and is expected to stay in the hospital for several days. the owner of the dog that attacked him has turned it in to animal control, so it can be tested for rabies. more lurid details of a double murder in joliet are revealed during the second day of testimony in the murder trial of bethany mckee. in court yesterday, prosecutors played mckee's videotaped confession as she revealed to investigators how she and three of her friends strangled eric glover and terrance rankins in january 2013. one police officer testified that after her arrest, mckee told him it felt like a dream.. and asked how much time she'd serve as an accessory to murder. on the tape, mckee said she invited rankins to the home of her friend, alisa massaro, planning to rob him and use the cash to buy cigarettes. massaro is expected to testify today or tomorrow. chicago rapper "lil durk" has been sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to gun possession. police arrested him last year, after seeing him toss a handgun into a car. the judge sentenced the rapper-- whose real name is durk banks-- to 18 months probation with credit for the 43 days he spent in jail. a long-time fan of lollapalooza is having second thoughts about ever going again... after a what he calls a "zombie-like" attack happened last weekend. ben lenet of wicker park was at a show friday night with some friends... when he was tackled by a man who sank his teeth into his arm. lenet's friends hit the man numerous times, trying to make him let go. the biter eventually released his grip, got up and disappeared into the crowd. lenet was treated at st. joseph hospital and released. he says he'll need follow-up tests for hepatitis and h-i-v. all lanes of the eisenhower expressway are open this morning after yesterday's shut down. heavy rain left flooding on a section of the ike, stranding some drivers. lanes in both directions were closed between mannheim road and harlem. most were reopened in the morning, but the inbound right lane buckled at des plaines. the water and the mud that was there is gone, so now traffic can flow as normal. i-dot says a collapsed drain led to the flood. it doesn't mean the polar vortex is around the corner, but there are already early signs of autumn in the mountains of colorado. the leaves on aspen trees have begun to change color in summit county, west of denver. even for higher elevations, this is really early for that to be the airport this year. police say hartman boarded a southwest flight from san jose to los angeles. she was arrested after the plane landed and charged with a misdemeanor. the t-s-a says minor security changes will be done at the san jose airport. in crowded times square, two double decker tour buses collided, injuring 14 people. three suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries. a witness says one of the buses was speeding down 7th avenue when it hit other and knocked down a light pole. the accident happened right next to the booth where people line up for half price tickets to broadway shows. a landslide in utah has forced dozens of people to leave their homes. it happened in the city of north salt lake... and one home in particular is nearly irreparable. four houses are said to be in immediate danger. 27 have been evacuated. residents say the problem started more than a week ago, when developers started prepping lots at the top of the hill. crews are moving soil around to relieve pressure along the hillside. an elderly couple is rescued from a raging flash flood in nevada and it was all caught on video. >> get out! get out! >>that was the scene as ten airmen from nearby nellis air force base discovered two cars swept away by the flash floods monday afternoon. they were able to rescue an 81- year-old woman and her husband before their car was destroyed by the raging river. >> it started slowly and the next thing you know it was right on top. >> just slammed the door and told the other guys to grab her and take her out. >>another airman fell into the mud and had to be rescued as well. police say no one was injured in the ordeal. they're lucky they were there at that time. >> glad that everything is ok there. temperatures are in the low 60s right nasdaq lost 31, while the s-and-p lost 18. the main trigger for the sell- off appears to be renewed fears that russia will invade ukraine. media mogul rupert murdoch has dropped his bid to buy time warner, c-n-n's parent company. if a deal had gone through, it would have been a huge merger of 21st century fox and time warner. but time warner's c-e-o jeff bewkes told murdoch "no thanks". fox shares dropped nearly 10 percent since the initial bid, on investor fears that murdoch would bid higher. murdoch said the share price and bewkes' refusal... were reasons why he dropped the offer. shares of sprint and t-mobile fell sharply in after-hours trading tuesday, after it was reported that sprint was dropping its plans to merge the two cellphone carriers. sprint shares fell more than 15 attacked a woman in broad daylight next to a busy c-t-a orange stop on the southwest side. it happened just before 9 a-m last thursday. the victim was walking through this parking lot at the orange line stop at 35th and archer when the man grabbed her, threw her to the ground and ripped off her underwear. the assault was stopped by two mechanics who were working nearby. the suspect has not been arrested but was spotted in the area monday. last night in chicago - and across the country - neighborhoods gathered to push for safer streets. its called national night out... where police and published leaked n-s-a material provided by edward snowden. this time, officials are confident the documents were not stolen by snowden. the world health organization begins an emergency meeting today to discuss whether the ebola virus outbreak in west africa constitutes an international health emergency. the second american ebola patient arrived in georgia for treatment. missionary worker nancy writebol joins dr. kent brantly, who arrived at emory university hospital this weekend. they contracted the deadly virus while working with patients in liberia. a woman in ohio and two men in new york were tested for the disease this week as hospitals lookout for new cases here. brantley and writebol are the first patients to be given an experimental ebola drug called z-mapp. it wasn't even due for testing on humans until next year. brantley, who's condition was described last week as grave, began improving immediately after he was given the drug. >> very promising. encouraging with the scum of studies. >>doctor sapphire says it brought a tear to her eye to see brantley able to walk into the hospital on his own after receiving z-mapp. second ward alderman rob fioretti appears to be closer to running for mayor. fioretti has hired an adviser, who posted ads for 4-staff positions including campaign manager and finance director. the adviser says fioretti is looking for staffers just in case he decides to enter the mayoral race. fioretti has been a frequent critic of mayor emanuel. but he has not given a timeline for when he'll announce his candidacy. chicago teachers union president karen lewis may also join the race. chicago public schools is seeking bids for three of the school buildings it closed last year. they are marconi elementary in west garfield park, peabody elementary in west town and wadsworth elementary in woodlawn. the communities have weighed in. they want marconi to include an alternative school for struggling students. the peabody community wants job training, child care and a rec center. wadsworth is being occupied by a university of chicago charter school that's interested in putting in a bid to stay put. a program designed to take kids off the street and give them a summer job, is expanding from chicago into the suburbs. about 200 south suburban teens are earning some cash while cleaning up the cook county forest preserves. some of the kids have had run- ins with the law, others are just looking for a job. the program was sponsored with a $550-thousand dollar state grant to the united way and the forest preserve. a new public art display is getting ready to launch.. benefiting the chicago police memorial foundation. just like painted fiberglass cows that were seen around.. downtown chicago will soon be decorated with fiberglass statues of police horses. local and international artists will customize each one. the horses will support the families of chicago polce officers who have died in the line of duty. >> trying to ensure that their families are taking care of the scholarships for their kids and also serves to things like making renovations to houses. >> will begin in september and go through november. then, you'll be state are meeting with state department and other agencies this week. the summit continues through tomorrow. former taliban prisoner bowe bergdahl meets today with the lead army investigator into his capture in afghanistan. bergdahl will have to explain how and why he left his post in 20-09, as andrew spencer reports. >> he will answer questions today about his disappearance from an army post in afghanistan five years ago. the soldiers recovery in may with a prisoner swap with the television came with mixed reactions here's some cheered his rescue while others renewed questions about his disappearance. members of his own unit called him a deserter. officials said the army concluded that he did leave his post of his own free will but without knowing his intent it could not definitively call him a deserter. he meets today with the army general leading the investigation into the disappearance. his attorney says he would not characterize the meeting as an interrogation. more like people sitting around a conference table and sat with he assumes. his match with the major general before the only briefly. captured as a private first class and promoted as sergeant during his absence his back on regular duty in houston near where he underwent counseling and medical care. the army said last month it will eventually be given him a position to enter his new rank. >>a death row inmate has been executed in missouri - making it the first execution in the u- s since an execution was botched in arizona last month. michael worthington was executed by lethal injection just after midnight this morning. worthington was convicted of raping and killing a college student in 1995. he's originally from peoria. his attorneys had appealed for a delay following the botched execution of an arizona inmate who gasped for two hours before he was declared dead. a former police officer from wisconsin is now charged with murder in the deaths of two women whose bodies were stuffed in suitcases and dumped on the side of roads. 52 year-old steven zelich is charged with killing 21 year- old jenny gamez in kenosha. authorities believe he also killed 37 year-old laura simonson. he had been charged earlier with hiding their corpses. zelich reportedly told police he met the women online, and accidentally killed them during sexual bondage encounters. ohio state university's former band director is speaking out after being fired for his band's sexual culture. jonathan waters says he knew about the problems from his days as a student and that he tried to change them. >> some of this was college stuff. blaze that in the past tense because we have addressed the inappropriate the names and we have addressed the midnight raids. we have addressed any kind of sexualized culture. >>ohio state fired jonathan waters last month for sexual harassment within his band. students were given sexual nicknames and had a tradition of entering the stadium at midnight wearing only underwear. waters says changes have been made, but the school's investigation was too one-sided to realize that. the university says waters provided no examples of how he changed the culture. days after toledo dealt with green toxic water... mayor emanuel is calling for a water summit with all the great lakes mayors. he says the toledo water crisis is a stark reminder that officials have to work together to stop pollution and keep drinking water safe. the mayor expects the summit to happen in the next few weeks. one of the largest environmental cleanups in the great lakes has come to and end. top illinois politicians were on-hand yesterday marking the completion of the nearly 30- year waukegan harbor project. toxic pollution from the former 'outboard marine' corporation made it a superfund site. senator mark kirk says the harbor features affordable lakefront land.. and is an economic engine for lake county. history was made as a spacecraft made the first
