there we do have rain coming down. so far it's not impacting the traffic but it could start to impact later on or around five or 6:00 a.m.. no accidents to report yet. we do have earlier work from the blue line over the weekend which has just been picked up. starting to seek normal service resume along that line. more details coming up. >> a southwest airlines flight-- from chicago to sacramento-- was diverted after an unruly passenger tried to open a door mid-flight. people on sunday's flight say the passenger wanted to jump out of the plane. three passengers tackled the man, and air marshals subdued him until the flight made an emergency landing in omaha, nebraska. >> of course it's scary. fear immediately sets in for everyone. people were nauseated, practically fainting and crying. >>people on the plane say the man was acting strangely during the flight. at one point, he came out of the bathroom soaking wet. his name has not been released. the plane continued on to sacramento and arrived two hours late. thunderstorms brought rain and hail from the southwest to the upper midwest-- causing at least one tornado to touch down west of the quad cities. this video shows a tornado on the move in lone tree, iowa -- which is south of iowa city. the national weather service is *not reporting any damage or injuries. the search for a missing malaysian passenger jet moves underwater today. searchers in the indian ocean say, by now, the batteries on the plane's black box have gone dead. no new "pings" have been detected for six days. but those signals helped define the search area. a high-tech unmanned "bluefin" hist sub will enter the water at this hour. it will spend 16 hours a day surveying the ocean floor, and sending back 3-d sonar maps of whatever is down there. a known white supremacist will appear in court today in connection with a deadly shooting spree at two jewish facilities near kansas city. three people were killed by gunfire yesterday afternoon, on the eve of passover. a man and his grandson died in a parking lot behind a community center, then a woman was killed in the parking lot of a nearby assisted living facility. two other people were shot at, but not hit. 73-year-old frazier glenn cross is being held in connection with the shootings. cross is a name used by frazier glenn miller junior, who founded the carolina knights of the ku klux klan in the 80's. the suspect is facing premeditated first-degree murder charges. authorities are investigating whether the shotings were a hate crime. >> the suspect made several statements. we're checking this for accuracy and we're looking for their evidentiary value. it's too early to tell you what he may or may not have said the we're trying to determine what it was. >> the suspect faces first- degree murder charges, authorities investigate whether it was a hit crime. the f-b-i is also involved. it was a violent weekend across chicago. at least 36 people were shot since friday night. four of them were killed. >> eric joins us live from police headquarters with more. >> the violence started friday afternoon around 3:30 p.m. when a 17 year-old was shot and killed. it did not end until last night when a 24 year-old was shot. the violence was spread out across the city. a 28 year-old mother of two was shot and killed in her car early sunday morning. police are still looking for a suspect in that shooting and a number of others. they did make one murder arrest. a 17 year-old the police say shot and killed a man after getting into an argument. expected to be in court later today. when the tribune asked the department if the warm weather had anything to do with the increase of violence, a spokesperson declined to comment. the police spokesperson said the department continues to be challenged by the gun laws. his story apartment will do everything they can to make all of chicago safe. the biggest victim of the weekend was 16 years old. we also spoke with the family of one victim they say the 20 year-old mother was not in a gang. >> the police say it's gang- related but she had no ties to a gang. i have a nine year-old granddaughter from her and a one-year-old grandson. >> we have two kids remind our business. here it comes. >> the police superintendent does have a public event today. we are expected to hear from him and we are expecting that he will talk about the weekend violence. back to you. >> taking a look at the other top stories. police are looking for the driver who struck and killed a 13-year-old boy in gary. malik herron and another boy were walking when the car left the road and hit them saturday night. the other boy was able to go home and tell his parents, who called police. herron was later pronounced dead at the hospital. police say the dark-colored vehicle has damage to its front passenger side. a man is being held without bail, after prosecutors say he led police on a high speed chase, eventually crashing and killing his passenger. police officers tried to pull over 27 year old glen jones for driving without a front license plate thursday evening. he sped off down south state street-- at one point hitting 70 miles-per-hour. 23 year old dalila smith died after being thrown from the car when it crashed into another car then hit a tree. three people in another car were injured. jones is with reckless homicide. chicago police are holding a man who, they say, pulled a gun on a convenience store clerk because he was angry over the sales tax on a bottle of soda. 36-year-old nahshon shelton reportedly waved the loaded gun and threatened to kill everyone at madison grocery, at madison and pulaski saturday afternoon. no one was hurt. a man was stabbed in the back after an altercation along the lakefront on the north side. police say the 45-year-old victim and another man were sitting on a bench just after midnight yesterday, when they were approached by two others. an argument turned into a fight, and when the men on the bench tried to run away ... the victim was stabbed. his wound was minor. no arrests have been made. there's a new candidate for chicago mayor. frederick collins launched his campaign yesterday. collins, a 21-year veteran of the chicago police department, says he would not retain police superintendent garry mccarthy. collins also said he would reopen 55 public schools that were closed, and create an elected school board. the election is next february. former alderman robert shaw has announced his candidacy. mayor emanuel is expected to run for re-election. drivers in chicago will soon have to option to pay for street parking with their smart phone. tomorrow, a small part of the west loop will be apart of the pilot program. participants can download the "park chicago" app and connect their credit or debit card. shh parking will be pre-paid. whenever the account dips below 10 dollars, another 20 dollars will be charged. anyone parking for less than two hours will be charged 35 cent convenience fee. the plan is to expand the program to the entire city by the end of summer. francis cardinal george celebrated what could be his final palm sunday mass, as cardinal, at holy name cathedral. he is visibly weakened by his chemotherapy treatments for kidney cancer. but he had the strength to stand for much of the service... though he didn't stay to destroyed. >> and making their debut in colorado, we have a look. in chile, police report a massive wildfire has killed at least 16-people. the fire destroyed more than five-hundred homes within a six-hour period saturday in the port city of valparaiso. it spared the country's congress-- which is housed in the city. the blaze is showing no signs of stopping. 500 firefighters are battling the fire, but strong winds and high temperatures are making it difficult. chile's president declared a state of emergency. federal investigators found no the box 5 bears outside of a home going through a babies were found in her home andrew spencer is following the investigation. >> over the course of 10 years police say the woman gave birth to an end killed at least six babies. the remains were found inside his home in utah a small city north of provo. the woman moved out the house into does 11. now it belongs to a family of her estranged husband. >> some family members were cleaning out the crash and came across a suspicious package that had a smell. >> it lead to a full-scale search in which police found the remains of seven dead babies. a disturbing thought especially for the neighbors. >> she was always a good babysitter. she babysat my grandchildren. >> we had no idea. no idea what that could have been. >> some said she never. pregnant. >> we always thought she looks skinny. we never saw any evidence of pregnancies. >> up the woman was booked into the utah jail. police say they searched her current home as well but they did not find anything noteworthy. >>oscar pistorius is back on the witness stand, at his murder trial in south africa. this is the fourth day of cross-examination. the prosecutor is once again probing for inconsistencies in the defendant's explanation of the events that led to him firing the shots that killed his girlfriend, reeva steenkamp. pistorius argues, he fired through his bathroom door, at what he thought was a home invader. the prosecution says, pistorius intended to kill steenkamp. the u-n security council held an emergency meeting to discuss the worsening crisis in ukraine. russia called the meeting yesterday shortly after ukrainian special forces exchanged gunfire with pro- russia militia in an eastern city. ukraine and its allies blamed russia for the unrest. while both sides agreed the situation is dangerous and should not be allowed to get any worse. the meeting came the same day ukraine's acting president issued a promise of amnesty for pro-russia separatists in eastern ukraine. he also warned that anyone who continues to support the takeover of government buildings would be held responsible for their actions. he said his government would deploy armed forces to the area today, but the deadline he set has passed without incident. the royal family put pregnancy rumors to rest during their tour of new zealand. rumors spread that william and kate are expecting their second child. during their three week tour of new zealand, william told a woman-- who made a shawl for prince george,-- she might have to make another. but-- kate was soon seen -- sipping wine during a taste testing. she also went on a high speed boat ride. experts say that's not recommended for pregnant women. >> suffice it to say there least trying to have another little royal. >> what a handsome couple. the annual rattlesnake rodeo drew conduct charges. a neighbor accused him of bullying the adopted children for 15 years. prosecutors say he used event for the neighbor's garage to hook up a device that smeared dog feces on parts of the house. he was also sentenced to 15 days in jail. >> we're one week away from the boston marathon. and given the tragic bombings that killed three people and injured dozens at last year's marathon,
