another update coming up. >> two hickory hills police officers were injured after their squad car was hit by a car driving without its headlights on. it happened at one this morning on 93rd avenue at 78th court. the driver of the car was arrested. the officers were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. a 24-year-old man was shot to death in ford heights. police found chris walker shot in the 15 hundred block of embassy lane early yesterday. he had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. he was pronounced dead at about 3:15 a-m. police are investigating. one teenager is dead, and three others hurt after a masked gunman opened fire outside of a mcdonald's in rogers park. police say there was an argument outside the mcdonald's between two groups of teenagers just before the shooting yesterday afternoon. then, a gunman walked up to a group of teenagers and began shooting in the parking lot near clark and pratt. survellience cameras from two nearby businesses should provide a clear view of the crime. a 17 year old boy was shot in the head and died on the scene. >> i just came up and saw the lights. >> two teens were taken to the hospital in serious condition, and another walked into the hospital for treatment. no suspects are in custody. chicago police are looking for the man who attacked and sexually assaulted a 95-year- old woman on the city's far south side. police say tuesday night, the woman answered her doorbell for someone she thought she recognized. the man forced his way inside her home on the 11-hundred block of west 110th place. he then beat the woman and sexually assaulted her. she was taken to the hospital with bruises and cuts. no arrests have been made. a nurse was killed in a hospital parking lot, when a snowplow backed into her. diane shogren was a registered nurse at "advocate good shepherd hospital" in barrington. she was walking through the hospital parking lot early yesterday morning, when she was hit by a truck that was plowing. she was pronounced dead soon after. officials say the driver works for the hospital and that the truck's lights and "backup alarm" were working. >> we're focused on caring for the family who is a grieving. we are here to provide compassionate care. >>officials say it was snowing heavily when the accident happened. an autopsy on shogren will be performed later this morning. no citations have been issued. you'll notice a major difference on the roads this morning, compared to yesterday. the highways are mostly clear of all the snow that fell during the morning rush wednesday. main streets are looking good as well. but those side streets are still covered, since they're the last you can expect plows to be clearing them today. we'll see if metra service improves a day after the storm. snow and ice caused switch problems and delayed trains during the evening rush. trains on the union pacific north line were 90 minutes behind schedule. there were also issues with vehicles getting stuck on track crossings. riders are advised to give themselves extra time and to check metra's website for service updates. all those snow days means an extended school year for chicago public schools. c-p-s cancelled school because of the snow and cold weather four times this year. those days are being made up on march 28-th and on three days that were added to the end of the school year. the last day of school is now june 13-th. american travelers to russia are being warned of a new terrorist threat, as the winter olympics get underway. >> as athletes from all over the world converged for the 2014 olympic games, a new concern of the security comes in a bulletin from the u.s. department of common security. >> a warning about this threat where explosives can be taken into this containers and cosmetics. >> they could be used to smuggle explosives materials into the area or on flights into russia. >> it's luck to down pretty well. there is there ring around the olympic spirit but getting there and the surrounding areas, there is real cause for concern. >> an official says the alert is specific to the start of the olympics. the source also says intelligence is as any large public event can be. >>a woman with a history of mental illness is sentenced to life in prison for killing a chicago police officer. it was an emotional day in court as the tearful widow of officer richard francis told the judge she can't forgive the killer, robin johnson, for tearing apart her family. johnson shot officer francis with his own gun in 2008 after a scuffle on a c-t-a bus near belmont and western. johnson cried in court and apologized to the judge, admitting that she doesn't remember what she did ... but she said she deserved to be in prison. bond is denied for the man charged with shooting a high school basketball coach from chicago. 21-year-old deandre thompson is charged with attempted first- degree murder. prosecutors say thompson shot shawn harrington in the back, while harrington sat in his car with his teenaged daughter. court records show harrington reached over to shield his daughter... and is now paralyzed. his daughter was not hurt. no word on a possible motive for the shooting. harrington is an assistant boys basketball coach at marshall metro high school. more than 36-thousand people in illinois have applied for a concealed carry permit in the first month of registration. more than 87-hundred of those applicants live in cook county. cook county sheriff tom dart objected to 240 of them because of criminal histories. dart has criticized the application process and promised to be more strict. the denied applicants have either arrests or convictions for domestic violence or gun crimes. the city of chicago will take on almost two billion dollars of new debt. the new borrowing cleared the city council with practically no discussion. the vote was 43-to-4. it allows the city to issue up to 900-million dollars in new bonds... and it lets the city double its short-term line of credit to one-billion dollars. the handful of opponents complained that mayor emanuel didn't give them enough details. >> the city is required to do that. they need to show me what we are going for. show me how it's going to be spread out over the next decade. >> not the type of transparency that we have heard about from this administration for years. >>mayor emanuel says the money will help build infrastructure... more than half of it helping to modernize midway airport. the days of paper fare cards at the c-t-a may be over, very soon. the c-t-a had to delay its transition to total reliance on "ventra" cards because of widespread problems with ventra's rollout. but those problems are being fixed. and the c-t-a says the transition may resume by the end of the month. by then, 4 out of 5 c-t-a riders will *already have ventra cards. when the transition is complete, all the old fare vending machines and the old "chicago cards" will disappear. drinkers of designer coffee are always looking for something new and different. a chain of *british coffee shops is giving it to them. it's called camelatte ... coffee with camel's milk. "taylor street baristas" says, the milk has a smooth taste... half the fat of cow's milk... and three times the vitamin c. for now, camelatte is being sold to raise funds for the charity "farm killing four people in a drunk driving accident will serve no time in prison ... instead he's been sentenced to ten years of probation. attorneys for 16-year-old ethan couch argued that he suffered from "affluenza" and his behavior was a result of his wealthy upbringing. prosecutors asked the judge to sentence couch to 20 years in prison. but the judge ordered his parents to send couch to a live-in rehab center for an indefinite amount of time. couch had a blood alcohol level three times the legal limit at the time of the fatal crash. a woman in texas who was convicted in 1998 for torturing and murdering a developmentally disabled man, was executed. 59-year-old suzanne basso is the second person executed in texas this year. according to state criminal justice officials, she made no last statement. basso is the 14th woman to be executed in the u-s since the supreme court allowed capital punishment to resume in 1976. *c-v-s will stop selling cigarettes and other tobacco products by october of this year. it's a decision that the company says will cost it about two-billion dollars in sales a year. the company's overall sales were 123-billion in 20-12. *c-v-s says, selling cigarettes and providing health care doesn't make sense. >> in a sitting or health care is being administered those two don't go together. >> the american lung association is applauding cvs part for putting health before profits. >> analysts say the decision by c-v-s turns up pressure on its larger rival---walgreens--- to do the same. engineers found a large threat to the eco-system in the florida everglades. this burmese python was found during an inspection of levees on tuesday. it's 18 feet and two inches long. that's six inches short of the state record, which was broken last year. researchers had the snake killed, so it could be studied. they're concerned about the pythons eating the everglades' native species and their food sources. this week's snowstorm was quite a nuisance in the chicago area. now it's on to the northeast. pennsylvania is getting the worst of it. more than half a million homes are without power. half of all outbound flights are canceled in new york, boston and newark. the governors of new york, new jersey and pennsylvania have declared states of emergency. and some state employees in connecticut and massachusetts are being told to stay home has announced its partnership with green mountain coffee roasters. the companies will collaborate over the next ten years to produce coca-cola products in single-serving plastic pods better known as *k-cups green mountain is making its "keurig cold" at-home beverage system to be released late this year. the system will dispense cold bevs like carbonated drinks, enhanced waters, juices, sports good morning. as the search continues for the gunman we have learned the young man killed yesterday has been identified as a 17 year-old. police say it was an argument between two groups of young people in the parking lot of the mcdonald's around 330 yesterday that led to a masked gunmen running up and opening fire. witnesses say six or seven shots were fired. one of them hit the man in the head who died on the scene. a 50 year-old girl was shot several times and an 18 year-old was shot in the lower back. another 80 year-old was hit in the arms. a girl who says she was the sister was walking past the scene on her way home when she found out it was her brother who died. >> i don't know. i just saw the flashing lights. >> a horrible way to find out. surveillance cameras on least two businesses in the area may have actually captured the shooting. the video is now in the hands of investigators. police are continuing to look for the gunman. the only description that have is that he he also had diabetes and heart disease. 96 year old dorothy kuseck was found dead at her home in berwyn. she also suffered from hypothermia and heart disease. the highways and busy streets are in much better shape after yesterday's snow storm. those roads are pretty clear, but most side streets haven't been touched. you can expect to see plows clearing them today. this brutal winter is also keeping chicago public school students in class longer. they had four snow days last month alone. so now the school year has been extended to june 13-th. taking a look at the *other top stories this morning. officer is sentenced to life in prison. robin johnson shot and killed officer richard francis in 2008 ... after taking his weapon during a scuffle on a c-t-a bus. the widow of officer francis told the judge she can't forgive johnson for tearing apart her family. johnson has a history of mental illness and told the judge that she doesn't remember what she did. closing arguments are set to begin today at the nato three trial. prosecutors had undercover police officers testify that the defendants built molotov cocktails to be used during the nato summit. the defense didn't call any witnesses. they say the defendants were mostly high or drunk and are not a terrorist threat. american authorities are issuing a new warning for people heading to russia to watch the winter olympics. the department of homeland security says, terrorists may try to blow up planes, by sneaking explosives on-board in toothpaste tubes and cosmetic containers. >> what is the airline or a passenger to do with regards to toupees? are we going to put in place restrictions on any kind of tubes or cosmetics going on flights to russia? we feel that everything that has been done to try to guarantee people's safety and security. >> with security strengthened around the olympic site itself, authorities warn that terrorists are looking for easier targets. we'll be talking to our terrorism expert, tom mockaitis, coming up at 5:45 this morning. snowboarder shaun white is bailing out of the first ever olympic "slope style" competition. white says he wants to focus on winning another gold in his signature event, the half-pipe. and he doesn't want to jeopardize his quest by risking an injury on a slope style course that he says is awfully difficult. the help of the castaway fisherman has deteriorated. he's now back in the hospital. doctors say they're having trouble keeping him hydrated and his limbs are starting to swell. he washed ashore from the marshall islands last week saying he was a trick in the pacific ocean for more than a year. he said he lived on turtles, fish and sharks and even drank his own urine. doctors say he is severely hundred, low on vitamins and minerals. >>the chicago archdiocese has added another name to its list of pedophile priests. joseph wilk is the former pastor of saint matthew catholic church in schaumburg. he also served at chicago's saint cornelius, and queen of all saints. 28-year-old donnie ophus sued wilk last may, and said wilk abused him for several years, starting in 1995. wilk denies it. the archdiocese checked out the allegations, and said they are substantiated. wilk left the priesthood in 2010. three people were arrested for the theft of a multi-million dollar violin ... but the violin is still missing. the 300-year-old *stradivarius was stolen from violinist and northwestern lecturer frank almond...after a concert last week, in milwaukee now charges are pending against two men and a woman. police hope the suspects will admit where the violin is hidden since it's nearly impossible to pawn such a valuable instrument. there's a 100-thousand dollar reward for the tip that brings it back. >> is said motion-activated singing fish apparently scared off an intruder who tried to break into the hooked on fishing bait and tackle shop. it hangs near the door and sings "take me to the river" whenever someone enters the shop. authorities found it on the floor--- it was likely knocked down during the break in. authorities say the intruder left without stealing anything, including cash that had been
